I can speak a little on biology, but chemistry and physics are "not my division" so if I post anything really inaccurate, let me know. Because tea and yarn and slowing down keep me connected to my subconscious, my body, and the moment. Possibly mild amounts of Babylon 5 or Doctor Who, when relevant, but fandoms will mostly be on another blog. Nontheism, pantheism, and agnosticism may show up here, but I do not identify as an atheist, and have never done so. I find atheism a bit dishonest, as much so as those who claim they know "The Will of God." The universe is a vast place, and it is difficult to say that something does not exist in all definitions when no one can agree on a definition of it. Irregular updates. To be honest, this isn't my primary spirituality, but it is the solid core- the rest is theoretical, this is concrete.

70% Drop in Levels of Forever Chemicals Observed in Seabird Eggs Tracks Regulatory Success

These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.

While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.

Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.

We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!

I'm not religious but I'm a very emotional scientist and I've been thinking about this a LOT lately. I love the earth enough to be its steward. and I have the necessary tools for the task. a complex brain. dexterous hands. legs made to walk long and far. millions and millions of years of Chance and Opportunity shaped me into something that can give back to the planet that has been a life-sustaining home for every person who ever lived. it's enough to make me teary eyed sometimes

Spirituality is a well-studied human phenomenon that emerges from shared understanding. It is made of chemicals as much as anything else is, and I am happy to understand it as such. To advocate against these practices on the basis of them being “unreal” is to advocate for cultural genocide

Absolutely breathtaking that this is the fastest unfollow rush I’ve experienced in recent years. That’s fine; I will not change my position, so if my position upsets you, then you shouldn’t be here. I have family members and loved ones who have experienced serious persecution for their spiritual practices, often on top of racialized trauma, and I do not tolerate viewpoints that would see those practices eradicated. I consider that unreasonably cruel and harmful. This is not a thought project for me, and I do not care about being The Most Correct, lmao
