Hawaii: Different Customs for tourists
Planning to visit soon? Hawaii is an incredibly beautiful place, with daily rainbows, all types of weather and ecosystems, and an amazing variety of flowers. It's also got its own culture. Visitors who try to learn a little about what to expect will always have a better overall picture experience.1. All streets have the same name, if you are a visitor. For example in my area is a Pu'u Poni and Pu'u Momi road. There are several King Kamehameha Highway on Oahu. And the center, all other street names Hawaiian language with only thirteen letters and generally long. It's very easy for visitors to confuse the streets, worse, if you miss your turn, you have several one-way and dead end streets to get through before you find a way back. Instead of constantly getting lost, try to ride the bus as much as you can, rather than driving yourself. Schedules should be on your hotel.2. Slow down! Hawaii believe in a laid-back lifestyle. This is a place where you should stop rushing to get from place to place and instead enjoy the scenery, flowers, scents and gentle rain of the islands. 3rd Honking in traffic is rude. Just do not do it. You are on the islands, not mainland, and when you honk, people get hurt. Just take your time, and absorb the relaxed atmosphere.4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Since Hawaiian sun is so hot but cooling trade winds blowing in almost all the time, you lose more water than you think. Take a bottle of water with you, and drink even when you do not feel thirsty. This applies doubly for every time you drink alcohol during the day outside. You can dry amazingly quickly.5. Wear sunscreen even on cloudy days. Even if you do not burn. The temperature in Hawaii almost always hovers between 75 and 89 degrees Fahrenheit, making it seem deceptively cool, but here you are very close to the equator, and you get more sun than you might expect. You will notice also, that a lot of kama'aina (population) wear long sleeves, long pants and hats. There is a reason to this.6. Umbrellas are good for more than just rain. Many people, especially Asian women, carrying umbrellas as parasols in the midday to protect them from heat and damage of sun rays. Since Hawaii rainshowers can come on suddenly and can be intense, it's not a bad idea to make an umbrella with you anyway.7. Most of the Waikiki area has free wireless internet - just search and log on. You can work from the beach here, I've done it eight!. "Local" is a favorite word, but you better never to refer to the rest of the United States as "states." It is the "mainland". Aloha Spirit - a kind of loving tribute to those who live on the island try to extend to visitors and guests - will grow quite chilly on the locals detect any condescension or exclusion from you, the tourist. 9th Do not bring your pets or outside production. Hawaii has a very sensitive ecosystem, and outside of cattle placed under strict quarantine. Your fresh apples should be discarded to avoid contamination.10. Try the Hawaiian food, but do not expect to like it. Poi tastes like watered-down mushed up yams, whether it is fresh if it is not fresh, the tart and disgusting. Kalu pork and other roasted meat tends to be a little on the dry side. Rice and macaroni salad is served with everything, if it is not bland enough. The best Hawaiian dishes I've found is the chicken katsu (the spicy sauce makes the dish) and saimin, a wonderful noodle soup so ubiquitous Hawaiian McDonald's serves. (Saimin first developed by plantation workers, who just threw what they had in a community soup pot.) And if you like coconut, you must try haupia, a thin coconut pudding with a strong nutty flavor.11. There are good and bad luaus luaus. The most important thing to remember is that a Luau is not the same as a buffet, and not all luaus even Buffet, the second most important, to luaus serve both food and entertainment. For example, on Oahu in the kitchen at Polynesian Cultural Center is a major disappointment, although the center is fantastic in quality entertainment. The jarringly-called Germaine's Luau is said to be the tastiest on the island, if entertainment is not quite as good. Paradise Cove splits the difference, and many of the hotel luaus are good too. Be prepared to spend a lot for a great Luau. The best luaus are probably those in Maui.12. The dress code is almost always vacant. Aloha wear is a good choice for almost all destinations, even simple sarongs over swimsuits. You can pick up aloha wear everywhere, from Wal-Mart or Goodwill (cheapest) to Hilo Hattie's (widest choice). You can also fill a variety of urgent needs from the common ABC, which is equivalent to the local shops specially designed for tourists.13. Learn the difference between the islands. The four most popular islands for visitors, Oahu, Big Island, Maui and Kauai. Of these, Oahu's most populated (with 75% of Hawaii's people) and boasts the famous North Shore surfing area, Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, and Honolulu, the Big Island is the only major active volcanic island, Maui is elegant, tropical and Kauai has the most beautiful natural areas, including the stunning waterfalls and perfect beaches (and is probably the best honeymoon island). The other islands can not be welcoming to visitors for various reasons, or may be too small to provide major tourism market for first time visitors. Know what you will see before you visit.

New Year's Resolutions for travelers - Top 10
A list of resolutions and / or proposals for 2010 for travel: 1. Patience: Resolve to anticipate delays, inspections, cancellations and any other unavoidable pain of travel. Gets angry only hurts himself, so just grin, grit your teeth and bear it. Better yet, keep one of these little electonic gizmos in your ear and spend your waiting time to listen to Strauss, Sachmo, Beethoven, Sinatra or Ella.2. Spread a little more about: People in the travel industry are working to bring you the best service. Most are not in high income brackets, and they depend on your tips. So in your travels this year, try a smile, thank you and a few extra dollars. They can go a long way.3. See America first. Make your first sunset years one to enjoy the natural wonders of America. Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Waikiki Beach, Yosemite, the Statue of Liberty and Golden Gate Bridge awaits you! 4th Travel Lite: Let the big, heavy suitcases home this year. Get yourself a rolling carry-on baggage and take a lot less stuff with you. Air travel is painful enough without worrying about lag, control and pick up (or lose) bags.5. Eat simple: It's OK to go to the big, posh, expensive restaurants on special occasions, but in your travels also seek out the small mom and pop cafes where food is simple, healthy and very cheaper.6. Stay in smaller towns: This year, instead of grossly-overpriced big palaces, check online or with your hometown travel agent for the neat little boutique hotel, bed and breakfast inns and simple. Why pay $ 300 per night when you're only going to use the room for sleeping. Forget suites with magnificent views and balconies. All you need to do to see all of the local scenery is going outside.7. Negotiate: The travel economy is still hurting, and one of the reasons is that they have spent the last ten years, upping to ridiculous prices. There is no reason for you to pay that much for something in your travels. When booking, shopping, checking in, saying the magic words: You can do much better at this price 8!. Take it easy: This year, resolve to stop and smell the flowers. Do not be rushed around the schedules that make your travels a frantic scramble for the other. If you are on a group trip, try not to do and see everything. Set your own pace, and tell the others to catch up with them later ... or not.9. Talk to others: Mobile, treble, iPods and any other devices that keep you in touch with home and office is good, but also takes time in your travels to talk live with people at the pool, on the run, in the terminal and in the buffet line . Conversation is not dead, it just went electronic.10. Do not go alone: Enjoy your travel with someone who will appreciate being with you, son, daughter, mom, dad, grandparents, friends, neighbors or others. If you are single, widowed or divorced, make this the year when you end your loneliness and sign up for occasional trips and cruises. Forget online dating for a while. Who knows? Maybe Mister or Ms. Right is waiting out there in the sea or mountain moonshine just for you.
