who: bryony & lake ( @scnshncs )
where: thompsons 65th anniversary party
bryony had gotten to the party pretty early. she had wanted to check in with her sisters for a little while but after that, when they had gotten to find their own friends, she had wandered. she'd spoken to a few people but none enough to have a decent conversation with. bryony wasn't sure exactly who it was that she was looking for ... until she saw him. "ah, finally." bryony smiled as she spotted lake, "someone interesting to talk to." she took a sip of her drink, "what do you think of all of this, hm? you enjoying the cocktails?"
lake hadn't really attached to many people in roseton, flirting, befriending, or disliking, but nothing too deep. byrony had bee a bit of a different case, something started with pure flirtation and experiences with minimal clothing, but a friendship had developed between all that. he sought her out, she sought him out, and the agreement they had was working well. ❝ interesting ? careful, my ego will be thrilled with compliments. ❞ warns he with a chuckle, swirling the bourbon in his glass at the mention of a drink. ❝ i've avoided the fluffy cocktails. ❞ but was he any better with a neat drink in a fancy low ball glass ? doubtful. he'd pretend. ❝ it's nice, though, seeing the history this place has. ❞ admits the bartender from down the road.
who: rafi & lex ( @scnshncs )
where: thompsons 65th anniversary party
this was not his usual scene. rafi preferred to be at home, with a good book. he preferred to be away from crowds ... but his sister had decided that he just had to be at the anniversary party and he hadn't been able to say no. he didn't have the excuse of work - that was his usual excuse. so instead of being in the centre of the action - his idea of hell - rafi clung to the wall. it was better to hide out. that didn't stop a familiar red head coming over though. "ah, just what i wanted from this evening - to be made to feel old." rafi joked as he looked to lex. "come on - are you going to call me grandpa? get it over with, kid." he'd grown quite fond over lex. there was a familiarity between her family and his. no one expected much from them but he thought that both of them were exceeding expectations.
lex's eyes widened when she spotted a familiar face, one she enjoyed seeing but had not expected here. the town paramedic was more often working nights or sleeping – being in a bar ? new to her, but she'd take it happily. the greeting earns actual laughter from the redhead, and she shines a grin that spells pure mischief but friendship as well. ❝ only if you earn it. ❞ begins she, even if he started it by calling her kid. it's tempting, but she has always enjoyed to be a bit of a tease. rafi was more like an older sibling to her than anything else – calling him grandpa when he was younger than one of her siblings and the same age as another was just all in good fun. ❝ here to make sure people don't get too wild or are you actually going to relax and enjoy the night ? ❞ he must not have grace this week either, lex made a mental note of that so she could drop off a flower crown next time the little one was here.
the brunette had her eyes glued to her phone , waiting for the first hour of the party to pass by so that more people would start filling in and kaia could start hiding in some corner with a friend . she was quite social , but after a long day of work - being at an event where all of roseton seemed to be at … not her vibe . a familiar , welcoming voice came in her direction as her green hues glanced up and smiled at lake . “ what's a bartender like you doing here is the real question ? ” kaia questioned , raising a brow playfully . “ what are you drinking ? ”
when he saw that kaia was just lingering off to the side, on her phone, well, it made her all the more of a target for his bothering. not that he expected her to tell him to bugger off either. the question she greets him with earns a chuckle, and he raises his glass in the general direction of all the people, of the busy bar. ❝ would be quite rude not to celebrate such an accomplishment. ❞ besides, he had the night off. what was he to do ? sit in his apartment alone ? that was terribly boring, and lake did not do well with boring. ❝ whiskey, neat. ❞ he didn't offer the brand, most people didn't care. ❝ how is your warm champagne ? ❞
kaia was nursing the champagne glass in front of her . her eyes were scanning the bar , looking for a conversation that she could potentially eavesdrop in . she had offered to help set up the party early , so anyone she really knew hadn't arrived yet which meant she was hiding at the bar . her thoughts broke quickly when she heard the voice beside her . “ yeah , actually . ” kaia began . “ my dad was raving about it this morning , but he's stuck working at rosie's tonight . told him i'd have an extra glass for him . ” the brunette mused , holding up her champagne glass .
lex laughs, amused in only the way someone from roseton could be. the town was full of locals, but she felt that some just clicked differently. she swirls the soda water in her drink a bit, watching the bubbles spin and rise to a pop. ❝ bet they'll get busy as people filter out of here, rosie's is always my post drink craving. ❞ even if she was lessening her drinking, it was all but tradition now. dimly, the red head wondered if she could convince her siblings to go, or if she'd be dragging someone else along. the potential victims were endless. ❝ to your dad, then. ❞ adds she, raising her soda that looked like a cocktail.
Zara had been outside for a little while. Despite loving mingling and chatting with everyone, she felt a little like she needed air after a while. It wasn't that she wasn't enjoying the festivities, just that she needed a small break from it all. Zara looked over when she saw the redhead sit down next to her and then smiled. It was a good question to ponder over, especially after all the conversations she had just been a part of, or witness to, where people discussed the times they'd been to Thompson's. It was such an important part of the town. "It has to be in the thousands now, right? Hundreds just doesn't seem like enough." Zara commented as she mulled it over. "Have you had a date there?"
when lake had come to the town a job was the first thing he sought. sleeping in the bed of the person he came here for meant he had a roof, but how long would that last ? so the job was found, bartending an old skill he was happy to revive, and roseton revenge was clearly the correct vibe. he had no regrets for which bar he picked, but jokes aside, he had no issue with thompson's. the history bit was actually fairly cute, though he'd be hard pressed to admit that aloud. ❝ hundreds even in this small town, not nearly enough. ❞ admits he, agreeing with her statement. the question makes him pause, chuckle. ❝ not a single one, maybe i should fix that. ❞

there were very few people in this small town that lake didn't enjoy spending time with, that would walk into roseton revenge and not earn a smile from his lips. interactions were professional, almost forced. sometimes he wondered if rafi came here just to annoy him, but lake tried to convince himself he was thinking too much on the matter. either way, the bartender sighs heavily, and levels the other with a look. ❝ and what'll it be tonight for one of roseton's best first responders ? ❞ was he being sarcastic ? there was no proof, but the glint in his eye might just give it away. truthfully, lake was a bit of a child about it, but he didn't care.

the flower shop had just been a job at first, the place that gave her a chance to be something other than the reckless lex roseton knew her as. byrony hadn't been someone she knew well, just someone she knew of, and never did lex expect her to become another older sibling figure she looked up to, loved. she also did not expect the shop to become her favorite place in town, a calling of sorts that gave her purpose. it wasn't some high degree job like her father, or some flashy face on a billboard job like her mother, but it was her happiness. and so when the redhead walked in from the back with arms full of greenery, there were no complaints. ❝ we need a wedding. i'm dying to do florals on that large of a setting. ❞ voices she as the greenery is deposited onto the table next to her boss.

stepping outside for a smoke break wasn't something lake did without getting stopped by about 4 people on the way out – each asking if he were lost. it was in good fun, each was a regular at the roseton revenge that knew he was in enemy territory in another bar. but lake also felt accomplishments deserved celebrating… and he was off after all. none had asked for coverage to come to this, so he figured he may as well put his night to better use than sitting at the bar off duty or in his apartment. huffing out a puff of smoke the bartender leaned against the side of the wall and sighed. ❝ i gotta say, unbias, i still prefer the revenge. ❞ it was just far more his vibe, but he wasn't upset he'd tried tompson's out.

lake had weaved through people, had chatted with his regulars, and had tucked himself into a corner for a bit to just watch the haze of the night as people chatted, laughed, and drank. it was a marvel to sit in a place that had been serving this small town for 65 years… he couldn't fathom in when his life was full of inconsistencies and instability. ❝ what about you ? got a cute first date story for this old establishment ? ❞ would he take someone here on a date ? likely not. while lake may not rush to take them to the revenge, he couldn't imagine this being first date material.

❝ pardon ? ❞ the bartender's voice slips out, accent thick because he's been sipping on whiskey all night and that tends to make it a bit more prominent. almost like a sleepy slur, words mushed together but inflection never changing. ❝ no, they left a while ago. ❞ had they asked for the empty seat next to him at the stool ? lake had tucked himself away in the corner of thompson's this late into the night, wanting to absorb the buzz of the night rather than sit through another story of people he either didn't know or who didn't know him. four years – his face was still new enough because he didn't really socialize outside of the apartment complex and roseton revenge.

he fiddled with the menu more than actually looked it over. having lived in roseton for years now, and working at the revenge, it wasn't really as if a bar menu could surprise lake. he knew they had his usual – and he'd never admit aloud but it tasted the same here. but it was something to toy with, and when all of the town came out such as this the non-local felt a bit more of an outsider than the flirty bartender who befriended most easily. it did help when he saw a familiar face – something he wondered on if it would ever change. ❝ now what's a regular of mine doing in a bar like this ? ❞

the night at thompson's was something lex was glad she hadn't skipped, but the red head couldn't help but eventually slip outside. it wasn't that she didn't enjoy the haze of the evening, the chatter, the memories, and the nostalgia plenty were reminiscing in… lex just often needed these small moments to herself, moments where the world quieted a bit, where she could bask in the enjoyment of the night and really bake in what she'd experienced so far. it kept her grounded… it kept her out of trouble. and so she plopped down on a bench, and her eyes cast around to see others still spilling out of the bar and wandering to their cars. ❝ 65 years for one business, how many people in roseton do you think had a date there at least once ? ❞

it had taken some time to find, but eventually lex had snuggled herself into one of the far booths, still near the haze of the night, but tucked away enough that it almost seemed peaceful. it was the booth her parents had claimed as their own before they had kids – and relationships aside she did enjoy nostalgia. snapping a quick pic and sending it off, the red head glances up to catch a gaze trained on her. now, lex knows most people in roseton, but she'd be lying if she said she knew them all. even still, a smile blossoms on her face, ❝ my parents used to love this spot, but claim they were too old to stay out late tonight so they've already gone home. ❞ explains she.

lex was a social butterfly, but she also would often take short stints away during busy moments to check her phone. call it a bad habit, but the girl also constantly felt the need to check the family group chat. as unsurprising as it always was, there wasn't much going on, one of her sisters was questioning why lex was even at thompson's, her dad was bringing up the story of the first time he took their mom here. ❝ old people are cute. ❞ lex voices, glancing to the bar seat next to her. ❝ anyone in your life reminiscing about their younger thompson's days ? ❞
Naomi had been tucked into the corner long enough that the swell of chatter had begun to feel like static, a steady hum behind the weight of her half-finished drink. She’d told herself she wasn’t counting the minutes Lex had been gone, but the truth was, she always noticed absence more sharply than presence. It was easier to anchor herself in the quiet, in the safety of observation, than to chase the bright pull of someone like Lex who burned in all directions at once. Still, when that familiar flash of red slipped back into her orbit, it was impossible not to feel the edges of her composure loosen.
Her mouth curved, faint but real, as she tilted her head toward her friend, dark eyes following the way Lex perched with all that careless ease. ❝Long enough to know who’s on their third drink and who’s pretending to still be on their first,❞ she murmured, her voice dry but softened by amusement. Her gaze flicked over the crowd once more before settling back on Lex, lips quirking into something wry. ❝And long enough to realize you left me alone in the chaos you dragged me into. Some might call that betrayal.❞ The accusation held no venom, only the ghost of a smirk, something more playful than harmful.
if she were more observant, lex might realize she had been unkind in simply being whisked away with the crowd and away from naya. it'd be different if they'd come with others, and maybe she had herself convinced that since everyone knew one another in this town it was fine. or maybe, and truthfully, she just didn't think about it at all. it begged the question as to why some wished to even be her friend, but lex knew she were capable of incredible things for those she cared about in other measures. social gatherings just brought out the butterfly in her – and she was grateful naya never seemed to wish that to dampen.
a small laugh slips through her lips, " and what am i on ? " her second, but now she just had a soda. lex had long learned not to over drink – and she lacked the desire to be out of control ever again. it's not really something she spoke about, but shew knew her observant friend didn't miss much. naya may not know why, but she'd also likely know lex never really got past slightly tipsy. eyes roll dramatically, smile atop her face when she caught the other's tone instantly. " were you absolutely miserable without me ? i can venture to never part from your side again tonight if so – though i'm not sure the bathroom stalls are large enough for that. " her own tease, though laced with a bit of an apology. she did need to get better at that.
