hello, i am amie/scone, she/they! i'm a bisexual chinese-american writer n poet with four neurological disorders and twenty allergies. this is my napowrimo blog, starting this year, for complaining, poetry, reblogging writing stuff, etc. i will try my very best to follow the prompts given! unfortunately, i play dnd so following instructions is not my forte.

Hi, uh, hello. my mom said to ask how's it goi ng. [a weighty pause.] So i wanted to know if you're still uh destroying your lungs, anna. I mean we haven't really talked in awhile so i guess that's kind of upfront. I wish i could sa y LMAO over voicemail. Or LOL or uh ROFL but veronica told me that's what millennials say so she says I should stop using it. Uh any way I was just checking in. You know i saw a butterfly today that reminded me a lot of y ou mainly because it had you know like eyes that looked a lot like yours. Black and beady and stuff i mean sorry if that's mean. But it w as getting chased by a caterpillar and i know you're going to laugh at me for saying this bu t i swear it reminded me of me and you. Like maybe you became a butterfly first and left me behind but also butterflies die first whic h i guess is accurate don't tell my mom i sai d that she'll yell at me for being nihilistic or something. Anyway. Uh. On the topic of ca terpillars and butterflies did you know but terflies have really curly tongues? I've been looking into them a lot recently cause your dad told me they're your favorite animal. I 'm not going to lie i think they look really c reepy but whatever i guess. LOL. Did i serio usly just say LOL out loud? Ell, oh, ell. That's worse. Uh but...yeah. I think butterflies...er i mean they're creepy yeah but don't you th ink it'd be nice to be one? You can be all gro ss and everything on the inside and only the people who really really love you will see it or the people who really really want to know mo re about you. So yeah i guess what i mean is i'd really like to be a butterfly cause you're al l pretty on the outside and gruesome on the inside and people never really check. But yo u did check, anna, i saw your research paper s and shit your dad showed me the other day and he was crying too hard to explain them s o i read them myself and i cried too. So mayb e what i really mean is i wish i could be your b utterfly but i guess in the end you were really mine. And now i'm all gross and not even pret ty for it cause everyone sees me being ugly ov er you. Let me know if john green was right ab out anything. Is there hope in heaven or is the re just more cigarettes? You never know I gues s until you get there.

the wind kills all sins, or the come and the go.

in beams of blazing white light we bloom and kiss like hothouse flowers, wholly unafraid of being blighted. the lavender candy on my tongue sours.

like hothouse blossoms, we cower away from the tumultuous wind. my saliva erodes sweet purple by the hour. the angels come and fall, wings trimmed.

this wind—buffeting the dead-dirt's skin— it would eat the heart of a lesser landgrave; would bring the angels, the fathers, the sins; kills the sweet taste; tells me to be quiet, be brave.

in the north-east, we eat hearts in the waves, in fits of blazing glory. the storm dies right as the sweet does, and gabriel's gaze clears our rot, our tongues, our sight.

prayer beads for mirror image of corpse

we fall like this: rivulets of velvet under a silk tongue / red beads in leathered hands / nightmares of yellowed cheeks and hollow stomachs. time passing, smoky diamonds / ruby-eyed foxes that glitter at you from the top of a third mountain of bodies, tallest in the world, iron pills / hearts learning slowly how to stop. never heroine but / i am too unused to what air smells of when unadulterated, i have been breathing nicotine for as long as i can know…

cosine and sine and tangent. geometrically, trigonomically…we die like (angel)fish in snow / killed for a god we do not know; the buddha smiles from his perch, would steal but never: does. there is a story of sandmen that we are told, who stands opposite to our false ideal and steals our waking hours … had it not been for him, i would have all the time in the world, or perhaps i have only myself to blame, for

i am the sandwoman from your nightmares, and / ego! narcissus stares into his pond, seeing himself reflected as a non-believer. off his tongue rolls my voice, chinese english tagalog hawaiian, velveteen, false, beads of water on beads of bodhi. we look to new days like they are past gods. beauty lies in the jade mouth of the future, spills off like pearled saliva onto carved chins and / maitreya rests his eyes upon me from his perch on my grandmother’s boudoir for it is not a sin to disbelieve. shame my flightless heart no longer, rise with air through my blood, exhale; dum spiro, spero, while i breathe, i hope.

over and under, abecedarian for a single moment.

AND the sun herself adores your eyes so you kiss her back and burn your lips, persephone to her fruit, icarus to his sun. bright and blindingly radiant and the gold is no longer visible, just the white. can you tell me a story, now that my eyes can no longer see, and start it with once upon a time for old time's sake; darling, tell me of the bones that rest in delphi, and grant me a painless—

—EPILOGUE. fafnir tells me it is almost / greedy to ask for a kinder vision for an uglier / heart; i am brought back to your toes in the sand your eyes watching god and your beautiful mother / just she cannot seem to see much else but the new wrinkles traced into her cheeks like / kintsugi, the sun reflecting them gold unto the water.

LOVE, remind me how it felt to lay your head in her lap, molten light tracing disfigured stars on your shoulders, nantucket air carved into your bones. o, i find the same scars in my own skin, same pearly cuts, designed to mock the poorly-printed sky.

QUINTESSENCE—that's you—that's my memory. reminds me that we have only the time we are given, reminds me that i am all too aware of my own mortality, of my end & epilogue ; my prologue was my birth, sixth hour of the morning, and my fifth chapter was this. sand, hot sand, crashing tides, hermit crabs. the day i learned to fear the ocean.

UNINHIBITED: verily, that is what i mean to become, a [...] wave called time that i will not be held by, and i swear that i will not allow this elixirless life to bind me. XX/XX/XX, the date i cannot remember on which i decided that i would become immortal, entire and absolute. you tell me once more that in this lifetime, my epilogue cannot be changed. zero is our end, and i think at last, o how easy it must be, to leave someone like me.

tanka , for the laws of a lotus birth.

new-born baby, un -cut cord; tell me a story of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness; tell me how to hold the world.

verity and happiness, face of my mother, miracle child.

i. birth. womb and tongue, a large writhing mass and white lights. i learnt the sun was white before i learnt it was red, then learnt it white again.

ii. and ribbons, colored clay shaped into nothing-blobs. i learn rejection, how it comes with horned horses, glitter-bomb, country with stars.

iii. i learn what music is, learn to dance without moving. girl ballerina, got that potential that makes the world seem even smaller.

iv. names for my memoir with friends: broken feet, bitter end; always with “story” & when you command f, i know : “american”, never there.

v. i tasted roses and syrup on the breath of the first girl i kissed then pressed her lipstick into a diary with eighty-two—

vi. —pages of wrappers and i breathe it again now but the scent is gone; and my name, too irreve- -rent to be a miracle. vii. elegiac songs to a blessing lost [...] i learn to foot the bill, play mahjong with cracked tiles, learn how to watch a soul, not catch it. viii. so i say when i was young, i jumped in lakes, dared the fish to bite the line without bait; swallowed the bones when they surfaced, and wept.

ix. beyond the grave i am thin but heavy. the scar the world bears of me becomes pale and thin. i—the weightless—fly forward.
