Who: Damerae and Alaya
Where: Easter Egg Hunt, Sunday the 17th
The whole weekend of Easter festivities had been interesting to say the least. People were acting differently on most days, including himself, and he wasn’t sure whether they were all drinking more than usual or if Easter brought out something different in these people. He couldn’t tell since he’d never been around them on the holiday. Still, he attended each event out of respect for the Thai royals and for a chance to show his diplomacy to everyone else despite his reservations about the whole thing. The egg hunt was fun, Dae even picked up a few of the plastic eggs and enjoyed the treats inside, but the best part about it had been watching everyone else.
A few, in particular, one including his ex-girlfriend. He shouldn’t have been watching her, he knew that, but he couldn’t help it when he realized how much fun she seemed to be having for once. Alaya was good at hiding her true feelings about such things but this girl…this was the one he used to see, this was the girl he had fallen in love with. Dae stayed away from her as long as he could but his feet started propelling him toward her without him realizing at first and before he knew it he was standing in front of the love of his life with nothing to say…for once, It was so unlike him to come up blank and yet there he was sputtering for the words he wanted. “You look like you’re having fun.” It was quiet, far from the happy booming voice he usually had. There was definitely something wrong here but he couldn’t put his finger on it. “How wrong would it be of me to ask you if I could join you for the day?”
Alaya had gone to the events present by the palace for the express purpose of being seen. She wasn’t catholic, Easter wasn’t her holiday, but there was never a wrong time to dress to the nines and network. Besides, if she played her cards right, one of these useless future kings would be her ticket to the life she deserved. To do that though, she had to meet him.
What she hadn’t been expecting was a small girl running up to her when she first got there, holding out a sparkling pink plastic egg. “For you.” The accent was thick, but she understood, and after a hesitation she finally took it with a small smile as the girl ran off. Perhaps with was something in the air, but she hadn’t quite been feeling her usual edge over the weekend. As the day progressed she seemed to get even softer, sipping wine, enjoying artisan crafted chocolate, and receiving small gifts from the same little girl that came back every now and again.
By late morning there was a permeant smile on her face and a giggle escaping her lips every now and again as she spoke with people. As Dae stepped up though she couldn’t help but look up at him with a sheepish smile. It seemed almost like a lifetime ago that she’d heard him speak so softly. “I am,” she agreed, just as quietly. “Damerae...” She said his name softly, not like the sharp way she said it when they first saw each other in Thailand, or the inebriated way too excited way at the wedding. “I don’t think it would be so wrong... Might be nice to spend the day with you. And I hear there’s fireworks tonight.”
