This is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea through a network of distributaries. The Mekong delta region encompasses a large portion of southwestern Vietnam of 39,000 square kilometres (15,000 sq mi).The size of the area covered by water depends on the season.

The Mekong Delta has been dubbed as a "biological treasure trove". Over 1,000 animal species were recorded between 1997 and 2007 and new species of plants, fish, lizards, and mammals has been discovered in previously unexplored areas, including the Laotian rock rat, thought to be extinct.

Il s’agit de la région sud-ouest du Vietnam où le Mékong se déverse dans la mer. Ce delta regroupe environ 39000 km carré et le niveau d’eau dépend de la saison (mousson ou non).

Cette partie du Vietnam est connue comme étant une zone naturelle inestimable en raison de ses nombreux trésors. En effet elle contient à ce jour plus de 1000 espèces d’animaux et de nouvelles espèces de plantes, poissons et mammifères ont été découvertes dans des parties inexplorées, mais de nombreuses espèces sont en voie d’extinction.
