reading more of maker's comics. and currently reading. carey's run of ultimate fantastic four. and like. it's really good??? there's some problems, for sure, the second arc(the one after the thanos stuff) was stupid as hell; but the first arc was really good! and then i'm starting the third plot and it's continuing the thanos stuff it seems like?? and i'm like. this is really cool :) and you can see the corruption of reed slowly but surely while he's still like. kinda a mega dork. and also seeing reed and sue like?? actually love each other?? knowing what happens later? it's actually really fucked up and i'm gonna lay on the floor.

There was a time when he was confident in all his actions, every step assured no matter how fantastical it might have seemed and how thin he might have stretched himself. Yet in this time, it would seem that for those in such marvelous scenarios, their lives could have been pin point to but one single event that had been run awry.

For Reed Doom, it had been the slight miscalculation, the half second delay that had taken what should have been the greatest discovery of human history, and turned it into nothing more than a tragedy. Johnny had burned, Ben had found a final home in the earth, Sue had so terribly faded into nothing, and Reed Doom remained stretched thin. He had always been curious, what else had this interloper unmade. What had the Maker made of this time?

What had the Maker done to have made him watch young Johnny burn to cinders and ash in his seat, or to make the bold soul of Ben Grimm take his own life? Such a vibrant life, one who could never been ignored. She was so resplendent, emblematic of all that could have been right in the world and his hope to push forward no matter how difficult it all seemed. Fading away to nothing in a hospital bed, blissfully unaware of the world around her. Yet still so hopelessly in love that she unconsciously smiled as he was forced to say goodbye at the behest of her father.

Fingers pad away at his various machines, taking joy in the only things that he could. Knowing that he exists in an adjustable moment of causality, minutes stretched to eons as it had during his torture. Working on the Immortus Engine, fantasizing about plans that could one day bloom into such wondrous fruits. Did the Maker know that in secret he continued to experiment in some facet with cosmic radiation? An attempt to find that fantastic formula? The one that could have bonded the four forever?

to MAKE something greater. his perfect sandbox UNIVERSE, something he could mold like clay into whatever he saw fit; little people like ants he could guide from one path to the next. conflict dictated by the disorder of resilience and unending tests. then there stood his vault of memories, of his joys, his horrors, his everything. all cobbled together in intertwining paths and metallic walls that never ended. comfort in the claustrophobia and bright white LEDs that never shut off. a maker needed his workshop, his tool box. within he had his tools, both living and not--both as USEFUL as the other.

smile spread wide across his face, falling never for conflict of what he's done, and only seemingly as an act of drama. a child playing pretend with others' emotions by extending his own so flippantly. creators were never BLAND, they were flamboyant and matched the extent of their CREATIONS.

the sharp laugh of a madman at DOOM'S question, now who says he couldn't do both? how many hours--days, months, years--has his torment lasted for poor old doom, reed no more, NEVER AGAIN. only what he made of him. that was the only thing he was, would ever be, and was ever at all. every second was a lifetime and ever year was a moment of pain that never ended. he would make sure of it. false frown spread down his face almost like a pout as he leaned over DOOM like a parasite.

" oh DOOM...look at YOU! so quick to ASSUME you're going to RUIN something in my presence, i WOULD APPRECIATE your silly little concerns...but why do i feel you aren't doing as best WORK as you COULD be? DOOM? "

anyway you ever think about how krakoa was about transhumanism and how the original orchis heads(karima, killian, gregor, later nimrod/erasmus) were the stages of transhumanist belief but rather than improving/going beyond the human shell, it turned into the replacing of humans with machines. how there's a major focus with the dominion ascension with having to give up what makes you human and give into machinery. do you ever think about how the three characters in orchis that had design changes--gregor, karima, moira--were all redeemed in different ways by the end of krakoa era. do you-

anyway nami goes crazy about the initial themes of transhumanism in early krakoa era and how that relates to gregor and her goals and why that's the reason why she eventually gets redeemed because smth smth love and grief.
