“Only For Your Eyes”

I have a phobia of insects. They terrify me. As much as I’d like to think of butterflies as beautiful, I think they’re hideous. Zoom in real close to a butterfly and that thing is the stuff of nightmares. As ugly and scary as they really are (in my eyes), I still understand and can appreciate that they’re synonymous with the notion of ‘beauty’. But beauty is something we only see from afar — a superficial aspect that only goes skin deep. Beauty after all is something that is ‘only for your eyes.’ Something that can be appreciated from afar like the beauty of a butterfly. But up close all that beauty fades away, and the ugly truth is in plain sight.

my art process

step 1: sketch: approx. 30min - 4 hrs depending on flow

step 2: rough colours: 30min - 1hr

step 3: lineart: 1 - 3hrs

step 4: erasing the fucking hands because they look like shit, staring at pages upon pages of google images of hands, using every rectangle, triangle, geometric shape in the book you have been taught are the fundamental shapes to a hand, crying about how it Didn’t Look That Bad in the Sketch, looking at your own hand but it’s always the one you gotta use to draw, trying to hide the hands in some way, getting flashbacks to when you were 12 drawing every figure with their hands behind their back, telling yourself you’re better than that, continuing to draw until you end up with something “stylized” enough to pass for okay: approx. 30 hrs

step 5: final colour and finishing touches: 2 - 5hrs.

I understand why The Last Jedi is so divisive, but I still loved the movie despite its flaws. No matter how you feel, I think we can all agree Rey is pretty awesome. I love my space girl
