Hey there! I firstly want to say I love your written works! You’re one of my favorite authors on here. I was just wondering if you plan on continuing the Bitten series and the Pretty Blues series? They’re my favorite series of yours. No pressure! Just curious! I hope you have a great day!
Hi Kibs!
I just want to say thank you so much for your lovely compliment! Seriously, it means a lot to me that people enjoy these fics 😭💕! As for my other series such as Bitten and Pretty Blues, don't worry they are going to be ongoing series it's just that I have now realized that I am struggling to find a balance to make updates to all these series. So likely, I will slowly be finishing one series at a time to make the best out of the plots.
Again, thank you (and everyone!) for taking the time to read my fics!

White smoke surrounds him, wooshing by as if it were alive. High pitched voices are heard in his head, whispering all sorts of nonsense. Yet, as he knelt, his adrenaline was pumping. He’s been waiting for the right moment, for ages, for countless centuries. Now is the time to act. These cursed chains, sealed by the gods, will bind him no more. There’s not enough time.
He conjures up the last of his powers to zap his chains off. His skin burned. His muscles cramped. His body weakened. Though his mind remains vigilant as he hears the pathetic guards of the underworld call for backup.
“Out of my way!” He screamed, moving past them at unspeakable speeds.
He can’t stop now, not when he knows what is at stake. He feels it. The end is coming. Not his, but yours.
As he continues climbing out of this hell hole, he stumbles across the entry point. There a single guard blocked his way.
“Halt!”
Wooyoung isn't hesitant, he knocks him out of the way.
The remaining attached chains on his wrist rattled as he successfully made his escape.
He flew as quickly as he could.
He needed to.
He has to see you.
“Please! Just one last time!”
And there he landed.
However, not in time.
“... No… no… NO!” Wooyoung dropped to his knees. “You promised?!”
There, by your favorite willow tree, was the reminisce of your clothes and favorite accessories. He ran to them, hugging them closely as they were the last items that belonged to you.
“Everything’s gone…”
“Wooyoung! Come on! Back to your cell!” A guard shouted from a distance.
“Everything I love is gone?! Because of you and your fuckin gods?!”
“It’s not our fault she died, probably better, gives you less of a reason to escape.”
“Oh?” Wooyoung laughs, amusingly out of disbelief. “Really? Then shall I decorate this land with blood again?!”
“So… I’m a little curious though, what are you majoring in at Mondreth, Y/N?” Jisung asked inquisitively while resting his chin on the palm of his hand with a softened smile after finishing his dessert.
At this point, almost all of them have finished their portion of desserts. They could and would definitely be open to getting more desserts, but wanted to spend the rest of their time with you talking.
Minho, who is sitting right next to Jisung, handed him a tissue, “Go wipe the side of your mouth, you still have cake crumbs on them.”
“Oh! Thank you, Minho-hyung!” Jisung chimed out, wiping the side of his mouth as advised.
After Jisung threw out that question, all eyes were focused on you, patiently awaiting to hear your response.
“Well, I’m an art major.”
They all seem interested, especially Hyunjin as he is a fellow art major himself.
“So that means you draw and paint?” Seungmin adds.
You nod, “Yeah, I mean, it’s a part of my course, but I mostly sculpt. I prefer it more actually since my drawing and painting skills still need to be improved upon.”
“I have no doubt that you're amazing at it!” Jisung sang out.
“Yeah, because all of your drawings look like a toddler made them.” Minho playfully remarked, taking a big sip of water from his glass cup.
“Hey!” Jisung exclaimed, a bit disheartened with a saddened pout.
“I hope to see some of your art then, Jisung.” You said encouragingly, leaving the boy speechless and burning up by the sight of your smile.
“O-Okay!”
“Aww look at you?” Minho cheerfully cooed out.
“Stop it!” Jisung sulks.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop.”
“Hmph! You better!”
“What medium do you use? Do you have any favorites?” Hyunjin asked, while taking a sip of his drink from a straw.
“It just depends on the project that I’m working on, but in general, I use clay, wood, and stone if I really want to challenge myself. As for favorites, hmmm? I don’t think I have one.”
“Interesting…” Hyunjin said, setting his drink aside.
That earned you a whale of amazed wows and oohs from the rest of the group.
“Mind if we see some of your art pieces?” Hyunjin requested with a look of pure curiosity since he doesn’t have much experience in sculpting.
His expertise in art is mainly under the categories of drawing and painting.
“Sure?”
Cause why not?
You pulled out your phone, opened your private social media account with all the words you had ever made archived inside.
“Here, this is everything I’ve made.”
You slide your phone down onto the table.
To you, these pieces were nothing special– some of them were done for practice sake while others were risky or so called experimental pieces. All and all, you don’t necessarily feel proud of them.
But they would greatly disagree, to them, this was a level of unimaginable skill.
Works of true craftsmanship.
“You… you really made these?” Changbin asked for confirmation, as he brought your phone closer to his face.
The others were huddling around him too, to get a better look.
“Yeah, but what you see now is nothing. I made most of these during my hectic senior year of high school. Hopefully, I’ll get better at it.”
They all looked up and right at you in complete disbelief at what they just heard.
Next thing you know, waves of compliments came flooding in your direction.
“WHAT?! This is not nothing! This is pure talent! You're a genius Y/N!” Jisung passionately argued back while continuously scrolling through your account to see more of your sculptures.
They all took turns scrolling through your phone, stopping when it was Minho’s turn. You got curious at their sudden pause and so you looked over to see that picture they were transfixed on, unable to move past.
“This sculpture… how long did it take you to make this?” Minho questioned, turning your phone around to show you a stone wolf sculpture.
“A day.” You said casually and truthfully.
“A DAY?!” Changbin, Hyunjin, Jisung, and Felix shouted in unison.
Ugh! Too loud!
Your ears were ringing as you quickly covered them with your hands.
“Guys.” Chan warningly said.
Their voices were so loud that they bounced off the dining hall walls. The few people left that were there, turned to stare at your table for a brief second before turning back around to continue what they were originally doing.
“Shhh!” You hurriedly placed a finger over your lips.
“Can you guys quiet down?” Minho scolded through gritted teeth.
“I think I can feel my ears bleeding.” Seungmin grumbled.
“How? Just how? That would have taken me a whole month to get something looking half as good as that.” Hyunjin cried out in total bewilderment.
“Uh… I don’t know? I guess I just work fast?”
You really didn’t know as you continue shrugging off the major achievements that they were describing.
“Can I ask why you decided to sculpt a wolf?” Chan questioned.
You wanted to answer him, but ended up chuckling to yourself instead.
“Huh?” Chan said.
“Sorry… pft, hehehe…”
“What’s funny?” Jisung asked very curiously.
“Don’t laugh at me but…”
“We would never!” Felix exclaimed. “Right guys?!”
“Right!”
“So, during my senior year of high school, one of my class assignments was to watch this whole documentary about wolves…”
“Uh huh?” Seungmin nodded, listening keenly.
“I don’t know why the teacher decided to assign that kind of assignment but I ended up learning a whole lot about wolves and found myself really fascinated by them.”
“How about now? Still interested in wolves?” Minho asked with a mischievous smirk.
“Of course? Why wouldn’t I?”
This response seemed to have the entire table humming in delight, some of them– ahem Jisung, Felix, and Hyunjin– were doing their best to keep their wolves from whimpering.
“They’re such… majestic creatures. I love them so much. Their pack dynamics, their strengths, and everything about them is beautiful. Maybe one day I can see one in real life?” You questioned loosely without realizing how the entire table was holding back their excitement.
“She said she loves wolves!” Chan thought.
“I take back everything that I’ve said before! Please accept us!” Minho screamed in his head.
“She’s so cute! Look at her passion!” Changbin gleefully thought.
“WE ARE SO LUCKY!” Hyunjin cried out in his head.
“She thinks we’re strong!” Jisung sobbed in his head.
“She’s beyond perfect!” Felix thought.
“... Is everything alright? You guys don’t often get this quiet?” You asked, seeing them all in their heads about some sort of thought.
“Uh yes!” Chan quickly said.
“Anyways, are you ever going to exhibit your work?” Felix spoke up, unable to take his eyes off the stone wolf you’ve made.
“One day, but as of right now, not any time soon.”
“If you do, I’m definitely going!”
“Thank you, Felix.”
“Me too! I’ll be there to support you any way you need me!” Hyunjin sang out with the others following along.
They all continue asking questions and adding compliments into the conversations afterward.
This went on for a long while. By the time you were ready to call it a night, you were surprised when you checked the time to see that it was far too late for you to have any time to review. Well, it’s not such a big deal. If anything, what you need to do now is to hit the bed.
Everyone at the table went quiet as you let out a yawn.
“Tired?” Chan asked.
“Yeah… it’s getting late. I think I’ll end the night here and start heading back to my dorm now.”
“Awww…” Jisung pouted.
Hearing you say this, the group’s joyous smiles turned into stretched frowns.
“Can you stay a little longer?” Felix suggested.
You let out another yawn.
“I would love to, Felix, but I don’t think I’ll be able to stay awake.”
“Okay…”
“I really enjoyed our time tonight…” You said, getting up and preparing to clean up your part of the mess on the table.
“Oh no! You can leave that here, we’ll clean it up.” Chan insisted.
“You sure? It’s my mess…”
“Really. Just leave it here.”
“Then would you like to hangout with us again? Let’s say ~tomorrow?” Hyunjin asked hopingly.
Yes. YES! Absolutely! Please?! Can we go?!
“Sure, what time and where?”
“The campus stadium at four in the afternoon?”
Sounds good to you and so you agreed.
Their smiles were quick to return.
“Yes!” Hyunjin cheered.
“I can’t wait!” Felix adds.
Both Hyunjin and Felix were overjoyed, standing up to hug you tightly on either of your sides as you hugged them back.
“Can I get a hug too? … That is, if you’re comfortable?” Jisung hesitantly asked.
“Of course, Jisung. Come here!”
He eagerly gets out of his seat, playfully pushing past the other two to hug you.
“This was amazing…” He uttered.
“Yeah, because you made it out to be.”
“Oh stop it!” Jisung shyly rejected with his cheeks turning pink.
“Alrighty…” You prepared yourself to walk towards the dining hall exit. “Time for me to go.”
“I hope you have some sweet dreams tonight.”
“Thanks Felix, I hope you have some too.”
He hugs you once more.
Sweet! He smells so, so sweet!
Everyone else gave their own goodbyes before they watched you walk away.
“Get back to your dorm safely.” Chan advised as you turned to walk.
“Will do.”
You waved them goodbye once more, seeing them all ecstatically wave back, then you stepped out.
When you stepped out, you took a big deep breath of fresh air.
As the door closes behind you momentarily, you hear it being reopened to see Changbin, rushing down the steps to catch up with you.
“Hey wait!” He nervously let out.
“Is something wrong, Changbin?”
“No but…” He avoided looking at you.
“But?”
“Let me walk you back to your dorm?” He asked as he stood in front of you with his eyes softly locked onto yours.
What a sweet gesture!
“I’m good, but thank you for the offer.”
You turned around to start walking again but he as he did before persisted with his offer.
“Please? I just want to make sure you get back safe.”
You stop and look at him closely.
“I know we just met tonight, but I promise I don’t have any alternative motives. If anything, I can just walk with you until you’re close enough to your dorm. Then I’ll leave you alone, how does that sound?”
“His scent…?” You thought.
Worried. He’s very worried.
But why?
So you thought about it, your options.
And you’ve decided.
“Fine. Let’s go.”
“Alright!”
The majority of the walk back was done in silence as there’s not much the two of you can talk about.
“So, any future plans after tonight?”
“Of course, I’ll definitely be there at the stadium.”
“And then?”
“No idea, but I’ll probably figure something out.”
You continue on your walk while conversing about random topics that come to mind to stop the silence from happening.
“You can stop here.”
He stopped as asked and then nodded.
“Get back safe and goodnight, Y/N.”
“Thank you, Binnie. For being so kind.”
He pauses.
“What did you call me?”
A smile stretches across his face.
“Sorry, it must’ve been too abrupt.
“No, no! Please say it again!”
“Binnie?”
It took a lot of self restraint to not hug you and spin you around.
“Are you okay with me calling you that?”
“More than okay! Please call me by that nickname from now on!”
You let out a short chuckle at how excited he was for a simple nickname.
“As you wish, Binnie.”
Oh he could melt on the spot.
“See you tomorrow.”
“Y-Yeah! See you tomorrow too!” He stutters out.
Then the two of you separated.
When you finally got back into your dorm, you quickly made your way to the bathroom to run a quick shower, then off to bed you went. There’s not an ounce of energy left within you, not after socializing for this long. As soon as you made contact with your bed, you were knocked out.

It’s getting quite late into the night. The pool room has stayed unoccupied for the majority of the day. Until now that is where Seonghwa can be seen and heard entering from the only entrance available. The room itself was mostly quiet, unless you really focused, then you could hear the subtle sound of water flowing around in the pool and through the filtering system with a low hum. However, the silence isn’t eerie, far from it, just peaceful.
He said nothing, his face stayed blank as he stepped further and further into the room till he made it to the edge. There, he slowly sat down, letting his legs be dipped into the water. It felt refreshing after a long day of work. He sat there, eyeing the room within its very dim atmosphere. Then he froze, not out of surprise but relief.
He clearly makes out the sound of footsteps, bare and meticulous, slowly approaching him.
Anyone else would have quickly bolted out of there.
But not Seonghwa, he needed to hear that sound.
“What are you doing back here, Hwa?” You jokingly asked after letting out a long and tired sigh, then sat right next to him.
“What? Not happy to see me?” He said sarcastically, grinning slightly.
You gave him a pointed look, “You know that’s not what I mean.”
“Missed me?”
“Hmmm? Not at all.” You teased.
“Not a very nice thing to say to your boyfriend after he waited all day for this moment.”
“I’m just kidding.”
“I know you are.” His voice softens, hugging your figure even though there was nothing but air.
“Hwa, you know you’re going to have to get over this one day?” You questioned, your tone growing a little more serious.
“I won’t…”
“You have to.”
“I can’t… please don’t make me.” His voice slightly wavered under horror.
“I died five years ago, Baby. Don’t you think it’s about time you move on?”
“Never. And I won’t.” He spoke with great promise, staring at you with sincerity. “I loved you and only you.”
“Hwa…”
“You were my soulmate and you still are… I just wish…”
“That I’m actually here with you?”
“More than anything…” He uttered out hopelessly as a single tear rolled down his cheek.
Just right when you thought you'd escaped the awkward tension from earlier… the universe really said, “Hmm? Nope!”
You wanted to do nothing more than to sink under the table, away from everyone’s gaze. Out of sight, out of mind kind of thing.
Why? Really? Just why?
As this moment progressed, you could only muster a bashful smile.
There were a lot of quick head movements from the other guys, turning left and right, back and forth, glancing at where you sat then back at where Felix stood– all looking equally confused.
“Surprise?” You finally chimed out.
Then returns the awkward tension from before, probably turned even worse. It was made even worse when the entire group fell silent again.
Hyunjin snapped out of his bewilderment, clearing his throat, “Uh hem! So… you guys know each other?”
Their gazes continue to shift between you and Felix curiously as if they’re trying to solve a mental puzzle.
The dots have yet to connect for them.
“Yeah. Well, we’re classmates." You simply explained, hoping to once and for all, put an end to this awkward atmosphere.
“Really? Just classmates?” Seungmin suggestingly hummed out, grinning a little mischievously.
“Yes?” You looked at him a little confused.
What more is there between you two?
“Right…” Seungmin replied, a little doubtful as he shot a knowing smirk at Felix.
“Y-Yeah, just… classmates…” Felix agreed, adding a nervous laugh at the end.
Oddly enough, he sounds disappointed or hesitant to call your relationship that?
But why?
“Is something wrong?” You questioned, giving everyone an inquisitive look, almost like they all knew something that you didn’t.
What did you not figure out yet?
“It’s nothing.” Hyunjin tried to assure you as his charming smile rose.
You looked at him suspiciously and the others too but didn’t press any further for answers since it was probably going to lead you nowhere. Without anyone asking any more questions, Felix decided it was his time to speak again.
He walked over to where you and Hyunjin sat, “Do you mind if I sit here?”
Yes! Absolutely!
“Sure.”
“Thank you!” Felix exclaimed, quickly taking the last open seat on the table which again may be a coincidental thing but it just so happens to be right next to you.
This gesture earned a couple of playful and knowing stares as you got perfectly sandwiched between Hyunjin and Felix.
You caught sight of their gazes, but didn’t bother to say anything about it.
“Why are they all staring at me?” You thought. “Was this really a good idea to join Hyunjin and his group of friends? I’m the only girl at this table?!”
Ahhhhhh I love it!
While your anxiety is slowly spiking, your fox is yipping at the attention you are receiving.
“Alright, now that everyone is here, what do you all want to eat?” Chan casually questioned at the head of the table with his phone readily in hand.
Almost everyone at the table already had what they wanted in mind, except for you, Hyunjin, and Felix.
That’s to be expected since the three of you were the last ones to join the group.
“Hmmm? Do you have any idea what you want?” Hyunjin asked as you and him shared one of the many menus laid out on the table.
“Not yet.” You said, still looking at the menu.
“What about you, Felix?” Hyunjin questioned.
“Haven’t decided…” Felix utters out.
Your eyes continued going down the list of options, from one menu to the next. Eventually, you gave up, growing frustrated at trying to decide what you wanted and picked out something random that seemed decent. After giving your order, Hyunjin and Felix gave theirs too. Chan nodded, noting down everyone’s orders and special requests in his notes app before getting up to head to the food stalls to get them in.
Right as Chan left, your hands felt around your pockets.
“Shoot!” You whispered irritatedly.
“What’s wrong?” Changbin was quick to ask.
“I forgot to bring my wallet.”
You tiredly sigh as your head replays the moment you left your dorm with just your keys and phone in the morning.
“That’s okay. I’ll pay for your portion.” He happily offered without giving it a second thought.
“What? No way, it’s my meal. Let me pay for it.” You objected with certainty.
You even made an attempt to get up to head back to your dorm to retrieve your missing wallet, but you weren’t able to stand up as you were stopped by a pouting Hyunjin.
“It’s fine. Plus, I insist. It’ll be my treat. Think of it as a welcoming gift to the group.” Changbin insisted, pushing his offer till you gave in.
You sigh defeatedly, looking at him with a troubled expression, “You sure?”
“A hundred percent!” He grinned at you, ear to ear.
“Thank you, Changbin.”
“Eek!”
You turn to look at your right, beyond sure that you heard Jisung squeak again.
“Is he okay?” You questioned, a little concerningly.
“He should be, for the most part.” Seungmin shrugged.
“He’s fine.” Minho added.
But behind him, where Jisung is currently hiding, he’s sulking.
“It should have been me! I should have offered to pay for your food Y/N!”
“I hope you’re okay, Jisung?” You said softly.
He didn’t respond verbally but you did get a shy thumbs up.
The group stopped all conversations for a brief moment as they turned their attention to you again.
“So ummm… I’ve heard a lot about you guys from Hyunjin.”
Now their gazes averted to Hyunjin who now has his ears turning slightly pink.
“... Really?!” Jisung questioned with a lot of passion, extremely eager yet hesitant to know what kind of details about him were spilled.
“Yeah.”
“W-What did he tell you about us?” Jisung lowered his voice.
Everyone was curious.
“Well, for starters, after Hyunjin told me all of your names, he said that Chan is the oldest member of the group and is considered to be a leader figure amongst all of you.”
They nodded in agreement.
“Minho… well he…”
Minho invested all his attention on you right now.
“He’s the second oldest and can be known to be the second in charge. Hyunjin also said that you could be mean at times…”
That immediately made Minho stare at Hyunjin who is sweating bullets.
“But in your own loving way. What shows most about you is how dependable you are.”
This caught Minho off guard a bit seeing his ears go red.
“Mmmm.” That was all he could say.
“Changbin, you're the third oldest member, you love to eat, workout, and just like to be carefree.”
“Heh, you got me spot on.” Changbin happily chimes.
“Jisung…”
“Y-Yes?”
“You…”
“Oh no, what did Hyunjin tell you about me? Is it bad?”
“No! Not at all, in fact he said that you're the kindest, most caring person out there. You love cheesecake, you love to laugh, and hope to make the best of what you can in the most difficult time.”
“Wow…” Jisung nodded.
“Seungmin, you are very direct and love to play around, especially with Changbin. You're also very smart and love to play sports like baseball and golf.”
“And me?” Felix asks.
“...”
Felix waits hopingly.
“You didn’t tell her anything about me, Hyun?!” Felix cried out.
Hyunjin doesn’t answer, instead, avoiding him by drinking some of Seungmin’s tea from his metal water bottle.
“Yah! When did you get a hold of my water bottle?!” Seungmin groaned.
“I can’t believe it! I’ve been forgotten!”
“Awww Felix…” Hyunjin tries to say something, though can’t really come up with anything.
“Save it, Hyun!” Felix pouted angrily.
“Ah Felix, it’s okay.” You gently spoke to him. “I’m sure the two of us will spend enough time together for me to know you better.”
“Oh… oh okay!”
There it is.
His sunshine smile.
“Hmph! Lucky!” Jisung enviously utters out.
Looking back at Changbin, you can see a soft smile appear on his handsome face.
But this wasn’t any ordinary smile, it seems like there was something more to it.
Happy! Very happy!
Your fox purred as she took in the scent of sandalwood mixed with sweet maple.
His scent. ~Changbin’s scent.
You can tell he wanted to say something, but lost the opportunity to when Chan returned with his hands full, carrying all your food within his arms.
Without hesitating or needing to be asked to, you got up to help him.
“O-Oh thank you.” Chan cheerfully thanked.
“There’s no need to thank me, I’m happy to help.”
“She’s so kind!” Both Felix and Jisung screamed in their heads.
One by one, both you and Chan handed them their portion.
“Alright! Time to eat!” Jisung excitedly cheered, rubbing his hands together, right before picking up his utensils to dig in.
You couldn’t help chuckling to yourself at how silly he is.
Now the time that you spent with them wasn’t all that bad, although you were all busy eating. After you got the hang of talking to everyone, sometimes to two people at a time, and learned a lot more about them personally.
Overall, they’re chaotic for sure as you have been warned, but in their own unique ways.
The food smelled delicious and was literally gone within minutes. All the guys finished their portions without a problem. You swear they didn’t even take the time to breathe. You were shocked that they could even go for seconds or thirds even. You’re still trying to finish your portion which half of it was eaten by the time crumbs and small droplets of sauces were left on their plates.
“Okay, now who wants dessert?” Chan suggested after chugging a whole bottle of water like it was nothing.
All the guys raised their hands, making it known that they are up for that offer.
“You want some?” Felix turned to you.
You put on a polite smile before you finish chewing your food.
“No thanks. I would, but I still need to finish my meal.”
Your eyes darted sadly at your portion.
It’s not that the food was bad. Not at all. Your appetite just wasn’t there.
Maybe caused by your anxiety from earlier?
“I can help with that if you want?”
His eyes were beaming with hope.
“You sure?”
You had to double check with him.
“Yeah! I mean… as long as you’re okay with it then it’s fine by me.” He nervously explained.
You looked at him then back at your food, and your decision was made. You carefully push whatever you haven’t finished to him. He was overjoyed. The look he had on his face was beaming with happiness, a sense of warmth wrapped around you.
He ate everything up in mere minutes.
“Wooh! That hit the spot!” Felix rejoiced as he wiped his mouth with a tissue.
“Now, do you want dessert?” Hyunjin asks.
“I’m good, maybe next time.”
You felt a little anxious as all their eyes were pointed at you curiously.
“Or you can save it for later?” Chan suggested as he finished taking the second round of orders.
You shook your head, “Really, I’m good. You guys can get it.”
Seeing how insistent you were, they didn’t want to pressure you into doing something you didn’t want to or make you feel uncomfortable with them in general.
“Okay.” Hyunjin said softly, accepting your decision as he showed you an adorable closed eyed smile.
Once again, Chan gets up to place the orders in, as the conversations amongst the guys at the table slowly die down.
“So… what did you think of tonight?” Felix tried to get another conversation going.
“I had a lot of fun hanging out with you guys.”
“Phew! I’m glad to hear that.” Jisung lets out.
“Then would you like to hang out with us again?” Hyunji asks.
Even though it sounded like a simple question, to you, the way he said it was more of a plea.
Yes! Yes! YES!
“I’d like that.”
This had the entire group smiling, even Minho and Seungmin who were trying their best to act reserved and nonchalant.
There’s no way of hiding those irresistible cute smiles of theirs.

“EXCUSE ME?! But you did WHAT?!” You dad exclaimed in complete disbelief, staring at your mom with wide eyes as he nearly spitted out the fresh coffee he made minutes ago.
“You heard me, I’m enrolling our daughter at Ateez High School.” You mom casually said gleefully, as she fixed her suit’s coat.
“WHY?! AND HOW?! Out of all the schools you could have picked, why Ateez High School. Why not Atiny High School instead?!” You dad continues to question, setting his phone and coffee aside now.
“Oh come on, the high school is the closest one to our house. And so what if it’s an all boys school?”
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN SO WHAT?!”
“Relax, everything’s going to turn out fine.”
“And you know because?” Your dad asked skeptically.
“I graduated from an all boys high school and I turned out fine.”
“That doesn’t mean it’ll be the same for our sweet daughter!”
“Trust me, I have everything figured out.”
“I SURE HOPE SO! MY BABY GIRL IS GOING TO BE SENT TO A SCHOOL FULL OF FOOLS!”
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
You had just unbuckled your seatbelt, swung your backpack to your side, and got ready to open the passenger side door until your dad called your name.
“Yes dad?”
“Do you remember what I told you?”
“Yes dad.” You sighed with a grin. “If anything happens, I will call you.”
“And?”
“Don’t hesitate to throw or kick anyone if they make you feel unsafe.”
“And the last part?”
“If I have to use deadly force then the heavy duty flashlight in my bag will be a great weapon.”
“That’s right!”
“Okay, now can I go dad?”
“Yes and Sweetheart?”
“Yes?”
“I love you!”
“Love you too dad, now bye.”
After your dad drove off, you entered the building without a problem, although you did get a couple of stares. But they were easy to ignore. You walked in, greeted the security guard who looked totally confused like the rest of the students. Then off you go to put your things away in your locker and finally, go on a short exploration to find your home room.
Honestly, it’s kind of comedic to see everyone around you become extremely angsty when it usually is the opposite way around. You had to go up three flights of stairs to reach the fourth floor, by then you found your classroom. It was the first one you saw by the stairway.
“There it is. D-01.”
You prepared to walk in only to hear a bunch of guys screaming their lungs out for whatever reason they have.
The door easily slid to the side and everyone inside turned their gaze on you.
It fell dead silent.
Their eyes were wide open.
“Hello?” You awkwardly greeted, stepping inside.
“Hey?” One of the boys called out to you.
“Yes?”
“Who are you?”
“Y/N L/N. Nice to meet you all. And your name is?”
The room again fell into a tense quietness.
“I can’t believe she’s talking to him so casually?!” One of the other boys whispered to his friend.
“You don’t know who I am?” He asked, raising a brow.
“Nope, I’m new in town. So hopefully we can all get along.” You shrugged.
“Heh, you’re one interesting girl.”
“And you’re a tough guy. Now, name?”
“Hongjoong. Kim Hongjoong.”
“Cool name.”
“She just complimented Captain?!”
“Damn, I like you already.”
“Is he blushing?!”
With that comment, Hongjoong stared daggers at his classmate.
“Eeek!”
“So, is there a desk I can take?”
You looked around to see the entire classroom was ruined by utter chaos.
“This one, right next to mine.”
“Sounds good to me.”
For the next few periods, you and Hongjoong stayed in the same classroom as you watched how your teachers switched from room to room.
“Ughh… this is so boring…” Hongjoong groaned tiredly, leaning back on his chair and resting his legs on his desk.
“We’re almost there. Lunch is literally the next period.”
“I guess you're right.”
LUNCH PERIOD
“Am I seeing things?” Wooyoung asked, dropping his spoon onto his metal tray. “Or is that a girl next to Hongjoong?”
“More importantly, what’s a girl doing in our school?” San added.
“Guys? This is Y/N. Y/N meet my friends.”
“Hello?”
“So, you’re also a student at Ateez?” Mingi questioned.
“I thought the uniform would have given it away.”
“Damn, she’s got a good point.” Jongho chuckled.
“Anyways, Y/N, come with me, I’ll buy you lunch.”
“Pft! What?!” Seonghwa nearly spat out his food.
“Got a problem with that, Hwa?”
“Yeah! What about us?! You never buy us lunch!”
“Yeah and for good reason, now let’s go Y/N.”
“You think Hongjoong’s got a crush on her?” Yunho asked with a smirk.
“Pretty sure he does, just look at him grinning at her.” Yeosang joked.
“Who would have thought that the big scary captain at Ateez high school would fall for the first girl that noticed him?” Seonghwa commented, taking a sip out of his metal water bottle.
By the time you and Hyunjin make it to the dining hall, a large crowd of people can be seen leisurely leaving. You and him stood by the front steps, waiting till you were given the opportunity to use one of the unused doors. Hyunjin went ahead of you, pulling the door open for you to enter.
“Ladies first.” He warmly advised, waving his hand towards the inside.
“Thank you.”
You walked in with him following.
There were still a lot of people inside, but not as many as you’d expect to see during the hectic lunch and dinner rushes.
While you two stood close to the exit, Hyunjin started scanning around into the sea of tables up ahead till he spotted his group of friends seated at a table near the center.
“Found them?” You asked.
“Yup, they’re right there!” He cheered, pointing right at them.
On your way here, he couldn’t help himself than to tell you all about them. He spoke very animatedly and excitedly, from telling you their names, describing their personalities, what majors they are in, just each and every detail that came to mind. Although, he did warn you– just out of being anxious– that they are a rowdy bunch and can be a little overwhelming when it comes to meeting new people.
You thought nothing of it, “I’m okay with that.”
“I sure hope so…” He sighs playfully.
At least, that’s what you would have liked to believe until you actually met his group.
To say that Hyunjin was right about meeting them can be a little overwhelming…well, that’s an understatement. It was terrifying. Even before you walked anywhere near his friend’s table, you could hear their voices boom out like speakers.
“Yah! Kim Seungmin! Give me my soda back!”
“Sorry, you snooze, you lose!”
“You guys quiet down!”
“Sure, as if you aren’t being loud too.”
“Hey!”
“Quiet down!”
“Now look, Minho-hyung is mad at me now!”
“Stop whining.”
“Make me!”
“Enough!”
“You weren’t kidding…” You nervously chuckled.
“Yup, this is my group.” Hyunjin nodded, scratching the back of his neck. “Now come on, I’ll introduce you to them.”
“Okay…”
“Guys?” Hyunjin said.
No one listened.
So he walks closer.
“Guys?!”
Same response.
“Yah! Guys!”
They stopped screaming and you swear, the silence is worse.
Their gazes turned sharp and scary.
But instead of yelling back at him, their gazes fall onto you.
Now, you found yourself only standing a few feet away.
The five strangers' gazes remain resolute.
Five entirely new gazes.
What do we do?!
Six new scents that filled the air, all mixed really well together.
And then… there it was again.
That strange sensation you’ve been feeling since the day you started attending this university, since you met Felix and Hyunjin.
W-What?!
WHY?!
Hurt!
Only this time, the feeling grew stronger, too much for you to bear.
H-Help…
The intensity was unreal.
It had a tight grip on your heart and it didn’t stop squeezing around it either.
Breathing became difficult.
Your vision started getting blurry.
The sounds around you turned muddled.
You froze on the spot.
“Hey, is everything okay?” Hyunjin nervously asked, picking up your distress scent.
“I-I just… ummm…” You swallowed what little saliva you had in your mouth into your dry throat. “I need a moment. Sorry, excuse me.”
You gave him an anxious smile, taking a few steps back away from him, from them, before walking away to the direction of the women’s bathroom– somewhere quieter and private. You slammed the door open, quickly stepping in with a bit of a struggle as your hands clutched onto the white porcelain bowl of one of the lined up sinks. Thankfully no one else was in the bathroom right now. You harshly held onto the sink, leaning forward as you tried to calm down. Your entire upper body is being supported by the sink as your hot breath creates a small circular fog on the mirror.
“W-What’s happening to me?” You took in a deep breath then out. “Why do I feel like this?”
Them… it’s them.
“H-Huh? What about them? Seriously, this is no time for riddles. Did they cause me to feel like this?” You mumbled demandingly to your fox.
Pack. Our pack.
“What does that even mean?”
Go back to them…
“What?! No… n-not yet.”
Your head is spinning just thinking about it.
“No… no, I need to stay here for a few more minutes…”
You decided to stay in there a little longer, for the sake of keeping yourself composed while also worrying about your abrupt leave from Hyunjin and his group, wondering how awkward things will get.
MEANWHILE BACK IN THE DINING HALL
After you leave for the bathroom, the group finds themselves in a long, astonished, withdrawn pause.
“D-Did you guys feel that too or am I going crazy?” Jisung stuttered out, being the first to speak up out of the entire group.
He looked side to side at the others while he felt his hand tremble as he brought the glass of cold water to his lips.
“Hyunjin, did you–?” Chan asked, stopping the middle of his question.
“Sure did. I knew it was her. I immediately felt it when I met her gaze, back at the greenhouse. It was… just pure magic.” Hyunjin proudly chimed out.
“I can’t believe this is actually happening!” Jisung uttered, taking another big sip from his glass.
“Calm down, Jisung. I don’t want you to choke.” Minho advised, knowing fully well his words will have little to no effect in the state that his packmate is in.
“I can’t believe we finally found her.” Chan happily mutters to himself, feeling an indescribable sense of joy that he’s never felt in his life, up until now. “We found her.”
“Or more like, she found us.” Hyunjin said.
“But?” Seungmin interjected, wanting to rationalize this situation better, finding it a little too out of the blue. “How can we be certain that it’s her?”
No one at the table said anything right away.
“Seungmin, how can you say that?” Jisung questioned, without looking at him.
“It is her. You know damn well, just like the rest of us, that it’s her.” Changbin argued, sitting across the table while glaring at Seungmin. “Why else would our wolves react this way? They felt it too.”
“Changbin.” Chan said sharply.
“What? You know what I’m saying is true.” Changbin sighs out frustratedly.
There’s no counter argument made towards Changbin, because there is none.
It’s the truth.
If all their wolves reacted, which they have, then it’s a miraculous stroke of luck that they finally met you.
“Changbin’s right. The bond has been formed.” Chan speaks up after a dry cough. “But… whether she accepts it or not is up to her.”
That wasn’t something any of them wanted to hear, especially Jisung.
“B-But… what if she doesn’t, wouldn’t that mean–?” Jisung whispered, scared to finish that sentence or think about the outcome any further as if that possibility might come to fruition.
“We don’t know that yet!” Changbin snapped, putting more bite into his words than he intended. “...Sorry, Jisung.”
“N-No, it’s okay Hyung. I get it…” Jisung whispered, looking down at his lap.
“Yah–!” Minho was about to snap, only to be cut off by Chan.
“Enough! All of you calm down!” Chan shouted, getting the attention of people who sat nearby them.
“Jeez.” Seungmin groaned, tapping his index finger onto the table.
“For now… let’s just get to know her.” Chan struggled to find the right words, let alone get his thoughts together. “Can we all agree on that at least?”
Minho scoffs amusingly, “What do you suppose we do after we get to know her? Ever consider that Chan?”
Chan said nothing.
Minho had his arms crossed over his chest with a questioning eyebrow raised. “Well? Tell her straight up that she’s our soulmate and then have everything we built up go to waste?”
Jisung shivered at that thought, “No…” He shook his head.
“He’s got a point, Channie-hyung.” Seungmin added.
“That won’t happen… w-we can’t let that happen!” Jisung anxiously exclaimed, feeling his wolf let out a whine.
“Jisung, calm down.” Chan sighed.
“Sorry Hyung.”
“Minho, we don’t know what the future holds. Let’s just go at it one step at a time.”
This earned another amused scoff from his packmate, however unimpressed by this course of action.
“Should we go check up on her?” Jisung asked.
“Oh yeah sure, let’s just all enter the women’s bathroom and hope nothing goes wrong.” Seungmin sarcastically joked as he took a sip of his tea from his metal water bottle.
“You know that’s not what I meant!”
FIVE MINUTES LATER
You’re still hiding in the bathroom.
“Come on Y/N! Get it together! What do you think you’re doing? Don’t be ridiculous! We can’t hide in this bathroom forever! It’s just a major, major coincidence that you felt this way. This doesn’t mean anything… right?” You asked yourself, looking into the mirror to see that you weren’t fooling yourself with such a lie.
Go back…
“I will… just give me a minute to breathe and then I’ll be out.”
You took a deep breath in then back out, repeating this action until you feel your heart slowing down.
“Okay now I will go.”
You stepped out of the bathroom, walking back to their table where Jisung was the first to spot you from that far away.
“Guys look! Look! She’s coming back! Quick, everyone act cool!” Jisung shrieked, resting his head on his han with an unserious, goofy grin stretching cheek to cheek.
Seungmin sighs.
Changbin holds back his laugh into his hand.
Hyunjin shakes his head in disbelief.
“Remind me again why you accepted him into the pack, Chan?” Minho asked teasingly which earned an offended “Hey!” and pout from his pack mate.
“That’s not a very nice thing to say!” Jisung pouted.
“Hey? I’m sorry about leaving earlier. I just had a little hard time breathing.” You said as you stood next to Hyunjin with a thin though shy smile.
“It’s okay. Are you feeling better now?” Chan softly asked.
“A lot better actually. Thanks for asking.” You smiled at him. “My anxiety gets the better of me sometimes. Again sorry about that”
“Hey don’t worry about it.” Changbin joyfully grins at you.
“There’s no need for you to apologize for something you can’t control.” Minho advised.
“But still.” You sighed.
“Ahh I get it. Anxiety is one hell of a monster to fight with.” Jisung casually added, only to find himself frozen, drawn back into nervous mode when he realized how nonchalant he spoke to you. “I-I also have anxiety…”
“So, you guys? Mind if she joins us?” Hyunjin lightly reminded them with an eager smile.
“Not at all! We’d love to have her join us.” Changbin exclaimed, a little too loud next to Minho who is now staring daggers at him.
“Great! Y/N, come sit with me!” Hyunjin said animatedly, taking your hand in his to guide you to the empty spot next to his. “Now let me officially introduce you to everyone.”
“Channie-hyung, this is Y/N.”
“Hello.” Chan kindly smiled.
“Hi.”
“Next to him is Minho.”
“Nice to meet you.” Minho greeted in his own reserved way.

that will be all for now. enjoy the rest of your day/afternoon/night! 💕
The first week of classes has finally ended, which means you can start enjoying your free weekend. Although, technically, it’s not completely free since you will undoubtedly be studying and reviewing your materials too. But, that can all wait till later tonight.
Your day began with a nice breakfast before you washed up. After that, you went around your dorm to do some cleaning, even though there wasn’t much to clean. The last thing you needed to do was to fold your clothes. You conveniently have a washing machine and dryer in your dorm, making laundry days feel a lot lighter than they used to be. Though, you felt lazy the past couple of days with your clothes washed and dried, waiting for you to fold them till now.
“Alright ~and that’s the last one!”
You put your clothes away and then sat on your couch to think.
“So… what am I going to do now?”
You looked out the window.
“Hmmm?”
Since you have plenty of time on your hands, you decided to go take a stroll around campus. Cause, why not? It never hurts to get some fresh air.
“Seems like they cut the grass again?” You thought as you passed by a grass field.
On your stroll, you passed by the dining hall and library.
There was a lot of activity going on around campus, people can be seen walking around either heading to class or making their way to a hangout. Some people even resorted to having some fun outside on the grass fields to play badminton, volleyball, and even frisbee. There was even a group of students, from different majors, lazing around under a tree.
“Glad to see people having some kind of fun around here…”
You continued on with your stroll.
At some point, in the midst of you taking another step, your attention was caught by the sight of the enormously tall greenhouse. Unlike what you’ve seen before, this side of the campus has little to no activity. Which is weird, though you’re not bothered by it.
You walked over, wanting to get a better look at the building.
“Oh wow?”
The outside is just as beautiful as it is inside.
There are these large crystal clear windows on its exterior, giving everyone a great view of the greenery from within on each of its rising floors. You couldn’t resist walking away, so you moved in closer.
As you stood outside, you took a couple of pictures of a variety of plants and insects you see roaming around.
“Aren’t you pretty?” You chimed out as a butterfly landed on your hand before flying away. “I wonder if–”
You looked left and right to see no one around.
Surely it wouldn’t hurt anyone if you go inside to look at plants.
You stepped right in.
“Woah…” You lowly gasped, crouching down to examine a small group of unfamiliar bell flower types that grew in a bed of water. “You have such a pretty color on you, don’t you?”
While you were busy admiring the flowers, you had missed someone spotting you from the second floor up. However, this person didn’t say anything or make their presence known. Instead, they slowly and quietly walked down the metal stairs till they were a few feet behind you.
“Hello there?”
“Gah!”
You jumped a bit, hearing a sweet voice come out from nowhere, you quickly stood right back up and turned around.
“H-Hi?”
Hmmm… a new stranger…
“What are you doing here?” He asked curiously.
“Oh I’m just uh–”
Your eyes remained on the ground.
“Don’t worry, you’re not in trouble.”
“Sorry, I should just…”
You turned back towards the direction of the exit, though before you left, he asked you another question.
“They’re pretty, aren’t they?”
You stopped and looked at him, “Y-Yeah they… are?”
Wait… what?
What in the world is going on?
Are you going crazy or something?
Is this a dream?
It was right then and there, when you turned back around, in that exact moment when your eyes met with the stranger’s, there was that thing again?
Just what is it?
Should you be concerned?
It’s such a weird sensation?
But you wouldn’t say it’s unpleasant… just odd?
It’s not only what you felt, but what you saw.
A flicker of light shown in each of your eyes, a strange subconscious recognition of some sort.
A zing?
A spell?
The guy that stood in front of you stayed still for a second, almost as if he recognized what this was.
His smile quickly returned.
He seems harmless?
You didn’t know what to say to break the awkward tension as you're a little distracted by his charming smile.
“If you want to see more flowers, there’s even prettier ones further inside. That is… if you’re willing to come? The roses and hydrangeas especially.” He turned around, ready to walk away as he waited for you, hoping you’d follow. “Come, I’ll show you.”
And so you did.
“Okay.”
He waited till you stood right next to him to start walking. As you walked behind him, your fox began to take notice of a new scent… his scent.
Mmm, bergamot and chrysanthemum…
Your fox is practically purring in delight.
I like his scent.
You continued walking with your mind drifting in thought.
Is he also a shifter?
Just how many more shifters are at this university?
You quickly snapped out of it when you realized you were getting too close, making a quick stop, only seconds away from bumping into his back face first.
The moment you step aside to view the front, that’s when you see the flowers.
This is just… wow…
You were in total bewilderment.
“I don’t know what to say other than WOW! Just… wow!”
“Hehehe told you…” He happily chuckled beside you, turning to look at you with a warm smile. “What are you waiting for? Go take a look.”
You immediately ran over.
He wasn’t wrong. Bushes of roses and hydrangeas of every color decorated a whole field inside. You excitedly jogged towards them, snapping as many pictures as you could from all angles. As you were doing so, your new companion was watching in amusement, standing by the side with his arms crossed over his chest with a joyful smile that never dropped.
“They’re so beautiful!”
“I told you so.” He cooed.
The two of you hung out for a while to the point where you’d eventually exchanged names to quell some of the awkward tension. He was the first to do so.
“I’m Hyunjin. Hwang Hyunjin.”
“I’m Y/N.”
“Quite a beautiful and fitting name.”
“Oh… thank you.”
Hwang Hyunjin.
That was his name.
He’s very bubbly.
Also kind.
And very handsome!
While you were preoccupied with taking more pictures to add to your photo gallery, you happily listened to him ramble on about the complex process of growing these plant varieties and the beauty hidden within them that most people tend to ignore.
“You see, most people just care about the looks of a flower but do they really see the flower for what it is? For what it brings?” He posed the question as he gently held one. “Like this gorgeous tulip, people miss the details of its center where the pollen is collected by bees or even its leaves where it’s smooth and perfectly lined up with the stem.”
You could listen to him talk for hours. His voice was soothing and free spirited. You just had so much fun spending time together that you lost track of time.
Throughout your time spent in the greenhouse, he showed you every section. He started from the first floor and ended at the third. He even went as far as to bring you to the gigantic backyard that was strictly restricted from most students, unless they are taking a botany class like he was.
“Shhh, don’t tell anyone I did this. It’ll be our little secret, okay?” He playfully whispered, placing a finger over his lips and gave you a cute wink.
As the two of you walked back downstairs on the spiraling staircase, you stumbled across the head gardener.
“Alright, I know the two of you are having fun but it’s closing time.” The head gardener sadly informed you two, letting out an exhausted yawn with his keys readily in hand.
Feeling bad for keeping him here, the two of you quickly apologized on your merry way out.
When you stepped out, you looked up to see the once lighter blue sky shift to a mute grey shade of blue.
“I just want to say thank you again for showing me around the greenhouse.”
“You’re welcome.”
“And I was going to ask if it’s alright with you but ummm… I accidentally snapped a picture of you while you were sitting at the table, next to the blue rose, would it be alright if I…?”
“You want to use it as a reference, right?”
“Huh? How did you know I was going to–?”
He chuckled.
“Oh please, I’m a fellow art major too.” He enthusiastically explained, making you feel relieved, knowing that he understands your creative perspective. “Now… do you have anything you want to do after this?”
You shook your head.
“Not really. My original plan for today was to just go around campus to take a few pictures for some inspiration, then head back to my dorm to review my notes.”
“Then if you’re okay with this, but, maybe you can hang out with me and my group of friends at the dining hall?” He lightly suggested, as you see his dark brown eyes filled with anticipation.
“Wait… as in tonight?”
He nods, “Mmhmm, if you want.”
Oh my gosh! Go! Please? Pleeeeeeease!
Your fox urged, feeling her headbutt you against your ribs, for that extra push.
Hyunjin stood there in wait, he could see and feel your hesitation. So, he tries to encourage you some more. He tells you that you can always review some other time than miss out on an opportunity to make memorable moments.
You understand where he’s coming from and so you agreed.
“Yes!” He cheered.
“But are you sure your friends will be okay with this? I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable…”
“She’s so considerate!” Hyunjin cried in his head.
“Hyunjin?”
“Sorry! But you’re good! Trust me, I’m sure they won’t mind. And if they do, I’ll handle it.” He assures you. “Plus, it’s more important to me that you stay comfortable.”
“Thank you.”
“She’s smiling at me?!” He screamed in his head.
The joy he felt shot directly into the atmosphere as he blissfully held your hand in his.
It certainly shocked you and him from his bold move.
“Okay! Let’s go then!” He gleefully sprang out as you and him started speed walking to the dining hall.
“Wait! Wait! Hyunjin, slow down!” You were struggling to keep up with his pace.
Wow he is fast!
“No kidding!” You screamed internally.
“Oh sorry! Too fast?”
He halted, letting your hand go to see you slouch forward to catch your breath.
“Yes. Can we walk a little slower, please?”
“Yes! Of course! Anything you need Lov– I mean Y/N?!”
Did you hear that?
“Was he about to call me Love?!” You thought.
If your heart was racing before, with him smiling at you alone, then your heart is on a rocket ship right now that’s ready to fly to the moon, fueled by pure joy with what you just heard.
“Ummm Y/N? Is everything okay?” He asked, a little concerned about how quiet you have gotten.
“Huh?! Y-Yup! Totally fine!” You started to walk ahead.
“Cute.” He murmured, but you still heard him.
Ahhhh! He thinks we’re cute!
You’re so glad that he can’t read your mind and that your ears and tails are hidden away. Otherwise, you don’t know what you’d do if he sees your ears lay flat on your head with your tail swaying side to side.
“Or maybe I’m just hearing things?” You were starting to doubt yourself.
But your fox was having none of that.
No way! You absolutely heard him correctly! He said we’re cute!
“Hey Y/N! Wait up!” Hyunjin said, as he jogged behind you to catch up.
When it came time, the sound of chimes went off. The soft jingling shortly replaced the morning silence as you sleepily stretched your hand out from under your comforter towards your nightstand. Your hand tiredly flopped around on the wooden surface before finally turning the annoying alarm off. With the peaceful quietness returning, you gave yourself a few more seconds to lay in bed.
“Eugh… I don’t want to get up… but, I have to.”
You pushed yourself to sit up, flipping your comforter off to start getting ready. After gently rubbing your eyes, you have both feet planted into your slippers.
“Jeez!” You groaned.
You start stretching your stiff muscles, even giving your back a few light punches as a yawn escapes.
Once you gathered enough energy, you got out of bed to walk in a zombie-like fashion towards the bathroom. You slouch forward while your head and arms hang low as you drag your feet ahead. Since it is this early in the morning, there was barely any light within your dorm, making you move around the hallway by touch.
You still felt a bit drowsy when you finally made it to the bathroom. In there, your hands go searching for the bathroom’s light switch that’s somewhere on the wall, in the dark. When you did find it, the lights instantly turned on. You couldn’t help squinting. Your eyes burned from the sudden exposure, but after blinking a couple of times, your eyes slowly adjusted.
“Time to get ready… yay?”
Within the span of twenty minutes, you washed up and changed into a simple although comfy outfit. All you needed to do to top it off was your backpack then out the door you go to get the first day of the semester started.
When you step out of your dorm’s building, you are greeted with a nice view of the full moon whose glow is bluer, softer, and kinder to the eyes of admirers.
However, as beautiful as the sight is, you couldn’t gaze at it for long.
You don’t want to be late, not on the first day at least.
As expected on the first day of the semester, professors do their due diligence by proceeding to go over the basics, such as giving a general explanation of what their course is about and what policies they have in place to keep a productive learning environment. A lot of them would also take the time to go over their entire syllabuses. Which honestly surprised you. One, because all your high school teachers had warned you on multiple occasions about the hardened classroom atmosphere, and two, professors are actually taking away precious time on their end from teaching to ensure everyone understands it.
While your professors explain everything, you skim through it to check out the different categories it had been divided into. The first two pages, front and back, contain a short greeting, introduction of the course, and some information about your professor like their names, backgrounds, and contact information if needed. Which it always is. As for the other pages, it shows details of every assignment, project, and exam date. Last but no least, the most important page of all, the grading system.
After going through all that, the last thing your professors did is to check whether or not a student is in the right class when it came time to take down attendance.
The second day of the semester was practically the same.
By the end of those two days, you got yourself a thick stack of syllabuses with some additional papers to archive into a folder or binder as well as other important dates that handle matters outside of your subjects.
Then came the third day, that was a whole different story.
It’s when things are finally getting serious.
During your third day of the semester, you calmly stepped into the classroom, stopping to look around for a good empty seat to occupy. You found one, walked over to it, sat there, and set your backpack behind your chair as you waited. By some strange coincidental timing, as soon as you took your seat, your professor walked in.
He is a much older gentleman with an extraordinary sense of style that not everyone can pull off or would have the confidence to.
He is very tall, has a long beard that has completely turned white and combed perfectly without a single loose hair sticking out from the rest. He fashioned a dark navy suit, but one that had been specifically tailored to his measurements. There was even an embroidered peacock skillfully sewn onto the upper back part of his suit’s coat. You didn’t miss the smaller details of his outfit either, such as his golden beetle shaped cuffs on his white dress shirt’s sleeve.
His posture is immaculate, pin straight with his head held high while his slightly wrinkled hand clutched supportively onto his custom walking cane. The curved handle was made out of gold with abstract carvings, whereas the rest of its body consists of a smooth, polished, dark grey piece of wood that brings out the illusion that it resembles a branch. As for his other hand, it carried from what you assumed to be a fresh, strong, and really sweet cup of coffee judging by the smell of it.
“Good morning class!” He excitedly roared out at the class after making it to his desk.
Wow…
Well, you certainly didn’t expect this kind of energy from an elderly man like him. He wasn’t even this energetic during the first day of class that you had with him. But you weren’t complaining. If anything, it will surely make the class a lot more engaging.
With everyone seated, attendance was quickly taken, then your professor dove right in. The smart board was turned on to work on showing you what kind of work he is expecting to see from all of you. Slide after slide on the big screen, you were getting more impressed than the last. Almost all of the works he showed were from his previous students and what they have successfully accomplished from taking his class.
Your professor even included some of his work to prove his level of skill and talent. Every single piece of his work was impressive. It made you come up with questions about how he was able to get to that kind of result in his line of work.
Now, no one can doubt him.
“Amazing, am I right?” Your professor joked.
“Very, professor.” One of your classmates said.
“Well, you won’t be amazed for long because soon, all of you will also be able to make work like these.”
“I hope so…” You thought.
After getting the presentation out of the way, it was time to have some fun. Actual fun according to your professor who turned the screen off with a small remote before taking a sip of his coffee.
Your professor proceeded to take his suit’s coat and cuffs off, placing the small metal accessories into his coat’s pocket for safe keeping, then draped his coat on his chair. His sleeves were neatly rolled up as he got himself an apron that has likely been used a hundred times or more, shown by how stained it is by various mediums.
Just for today, no one will be working hands on with clay.
He wanted you all to watch first.
Closely and intentionally, hoping it’ll allow you all to set a goal for yourselves.
Everyone huddled around him as he prepared his surprisingly small work station. He had a mobile cart, full of sculpting tools on all three levels, a big lump of clay, a handy adjustable sculpting stand, and a reference of what he wanted to sculpt. The subject is going to be a bust of a woman.
This is how the class continued for the next five hours, which was the duration of this class session.
Your professor taught from the very beginning to the very end without taking a single break– talk about dedication.
“Don’t hesitate to ask any questions, I’m all open to hear them…” He said as he refined the shape of the clay.
He’s a very passionate yet soft spoken man. His movements are made with purpose and curiosity through many years of experience. He isn’t afraid of making any mistakes, whether it be big or small. If something looks off to him, without a second thought, he’d grab a rib (a somewhat flat piece of wood in a cylindrical shape with some smoothened edges that is about the size of a credit card) and scratch the clay off to redo it. He’s done this when he was working on the nose and lips of the woman.
Even when he does go quiet to focus, his thought process can be seen, it all shows in his work process.
“So, what do you all think?” Your professor asked, stopping for a minute to look at everyone.
“It looks amazing.” One of your classmates said.
“It’s perfect.”
“Oh no, it’s not perfect. Nothing in this world is perfect.” Your professor amusingly chuckled. “This is simply a process.”
Huh, that’s an interesting way to think about things.
However, as much as you were enjoying your time in his class, it was getting a bit brutal for your legs.
It would be nice if you could sit down for a second. Your legs are cramping.
Hurt.
Even your fox is whining and yipping as you switch how you are standing every passing minute.
He is by far one of the strict yet most inspiring educators you’ve had in a while.
When he realized that class was close to ending, he asked everyone to return to their seats as he lectured on with the remaining time he had left.
“For the first assignment I’ll give, I will be generous to allow you to pick your subject matter. It could be anything and anyone you want it to be. Whether it be real or made up is up to you to decide. Which means I expect great work from all of you. Impress me. Show me your skills. Try to incorporate some of the techniques I have shown you today. And so, sketches for your work will be due by next class.” He announced behind his desk, with dried clayed covered hands resting on top of his desk.
Some of your classmates delightedly thanked the professor while others groaned in frustration without a clue of what they were going to make.
You weren’t in either group, just silent and patiently waiting for this class to be over.
“Okay, I think all of you are done with listening to my voice now, so everyone enjoy your weekend!”
“Thank you, Professor. Have a nice day.”
“You too.”
There wasn’t much relief after you left your first class since you had another one right after it. Thankfully, the walk to the next building was short and close by. Your next class was located closest to the exit of the building.
There were already some students inside. A couple of them were conversing with each other, while others wanted to stay unbothered, scrolling through their phones or listening to their playlists with their headphones on.
Still, there were plenty of empty seats left for you to choose as the class is held within a huge lecture hall. So you sat somewhere near the back as you didn’t like being in the front row, ever. When you sat down, you dug into your backpack to take out your notebook, pens, and highlighters, laid them out in front of you, then waited for your professor to arrive.
Your second class professor came in later, after the official starting time. She apologized for the inconvenience while jogging to the front of the class where she put her stuff down onto her desk. A heavy sigh was heard as she tied her hair up into a messy bun. The keys to the keyboard echoed in the quiet room as her slides appeared on the giant screen behind her. She briefly announced today’s topic and moved onto the next slide.
As she was ready to explain the slide’s content, she got interrupted by someone rushing into the classroom.
All heads turned to the late student’s loud entrance.
“... You have got to be kidding me?” You thought.
“S-Sorry for being late, Professor!” Felix exclaimed, completely out of breath and sweating.
The entire class stared at him, including you.
“~Why?” You wondered.
The professor huffed out a disappointed sigh, “Just take a seat.”
He nodded, looked around a bit until he saw you and the empty row you sat in, with open seats on each of your side. So, he took his chance to sit right next to you.
“Is it a big coincidence that I have the same class as you?” He jokingly whispered with a charming smile.
Ahhh! Cute!
You really need to have a serious talk with your fox.
“Maybe?” You said disinterestedly as you wrote down all the important details you heard into your notebook.
For the rest of the lecture, you were diligently taking notes whereas Felix leaned back in his chair without a care in the world.
Well, that’s his business.
Surprisingly, class had finished earlier than you expected. Your professor just has something she really needs to attend to as she runs out.
You pack everything you had out, swing your backpack onto your shoulder, and then get up to leave. You were only two steps ahead before feeling someone grab a hold of the strap on top of your backpack.
“Do you need something?” You questioned mild manneredly.
“Can I get your number?” He asked nervously.
Your fox’s ears are perked up.
She is listening alright.
Yes. Yes! Yes please?!
You pretended to think about it then said, “Hmmm, no.”
Your fox’s jaw drops.
What?!
She exclaimed in disbelief.
You turned back around, hoping he’d let go– but he didn’t.
“Oh come on! Please Y/N! Just for class purposes, nothing else!” He pouted out his plea.
You stare blankly at him, looking into his eyes.
… You gave in.
Damn those puppy eyes of his.
“Will you let me go if I do this for you?”
He nodded eagerly.
You sighed, “Fine.”
He quickly pulled his phone out of his pocket, letting you dial your number into his contacts, but of course you weren’t off the hook just yet.
He had to make sure that it was actually your number.
He called and your phone rang.
“Just making sure. Anyways, do you have any plans for tonight?” He asked with his eyes shining with wonder.
I need some shades!
“I’m just going to review then laze around.” You plainly explained.
“~Or would you like to have dinner with me and my friends?” He offered but your expression said it all.
“I’ll pass…”
He sighs at your response and finally lets you go.
“Well, the offer is always open.” He said with a saddened smile.
I want to go though…
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
You then bid him goodbye and left.
You make it back to your dorm with a list of things you need to do. First and foremost before everything was to take a nice steaming hot shower.
Now refreshed and energized, your notes from today’s class are sprawled out onto your desk to be shortened or lengthened. You were in deep docs when you heard your phone go off, showing a text message notification.

There wasn’t much to say to him since he was more of an acquaintance than a friend. You can see that he read your message and liked it with a heart. You just left it like that, turning your attention back to reviewing.
They just started spraying spit into the air. Their laughter was obnoxiously loud, wild, and annoying to the point where they were having a hard time breathing as their faces turned a deep red. As if this situation couldn’t get any worse, the noise that these idiots were making were disturbing others around you. Some people even turned around from where they sat or stood to see what the whole commotion was about. Then, there was you, who is unfortunately in the middle of it, still in your seat with curious eyes staring at you.
Everyone around you soon turned their attention back to what they were originally doing. Yet, the dilemma you found yourself in went on. It’s almost like you turned invisible to them, that they forgot that you were still there with your dinner clearly matted into the fabric of your clothes.
You couldn’t help rolling your eyes at how hysterical they were. One of them was arching backwards with his arms wrapped around his stomach as he let his laughter travel all the way up to the ceiling. Another one slouched forward, wheezing, hands on his knees as he playfully slapped his friend’s back. And last but not least, there was the guy who ruined your night. He was tightly holding onto his cramping stomach from how hard he’s been laughing with the other two dummies behind him.
Hate. I hate them…
Your fox snarled, not any happier than you were in this situation.
“Couldn’t agree more…” You thought.
This small group reminded you so much of the standard stereotypical repulsive team of jocks that have been repeatedly shown in films. Until now, not a single one of the three made an attempt to apologize. You wouldn’t accept it even if they did.
Instead of doing anything to help you out in this situation, they just upped their antics by running away. One of them started running, making the other two follow in pursuit. They chased after one another while still cackling like a bunch of wild hyenas.
“Assholes.” You uttered, staring daggers at the direction they left.
With them gone, you let out a heavy sigh.
“Great?...” You sarcastically groaned.
What a waste of a perfectly delicious meal? Not to mention that you have extra laundry to do now. However, moping around isn’t going to get you anywhere.
You started looking around for some tissues. Anything really to take the layer of food off your clothes. Just when you turn to your right, you see some tissues conveniently floating slightly above your gaze.
“Huh?”
You looked up, now fully facing the person. You were about to thank this person, but stopped, hesitating to let out a low groan when you noticed the same jersey he wore as the other guys.
That sharp sense of annoyance slightly faded.
The moment your eyes met, something happened.
“Here.” He offered with a timid smile, gently handing you the tissues.
“Thanks.” You said as you snapped out of your trance, reluctantly accepting them, to then cause a quick spark to zap the two of you when your fingertips met. “Gah!”
“Ooh sorry!” He quickly apologized as his gaze softened. “A-Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” You responded dryly while you focused on harshly wiping your shirt and pants without looking up at him.
To your surprise, he stayed back.
The entire time he stood next to you, you could feel your heart racing.
“Hey… umm” He anxiously started to speak, breaking the silent tension. “I-I’m sorry about them. I’ll talk to them and make sure they apologize.”
He was clearly as upset as you were.
But why?
Strange? Very strange? He’s worried… about us? Totally unexpected…
“No, it’s fine.”
Clearly that was an outright lie, judging by your tone and expression. It was totally not fine, but what good is an apology going to make out of this? Your clothes would still be stained, plus, you didn’t want to come in contact with those idiots again.
“You sure?” He asks again.
“Yes.”
It seemed like he wanted to say more to you but hesitated, “Then… I hope to see you around.”
“I hope not!” You screamed in your head, watching him walk away.
“I hope to see you around.”
His voice echoes in your head.
The way he said it, it was more of a statement than a question.
You watched him turn back around, just a few feet away to give you an apologetic warm smile, then continued walking off with both his hands in his jersey’s pockets to catch up with his group.
“Weird…”
Different? Very different.
Your fox was on edge, feeling her fur spike up.
She’s guarded because of… him?
That didn’t make any sense.
He doesn’t seem like he can pose a threat to you, not even in the slightest bit.
What’s the need to feel cautious around him?
Goosebumps rose with an odd chill running down your spine to make you tremble.
Now that your fox points this out, you pick up the dissipating smell of alcohol. Some really strong alcohol that makes your nose scrunch. You were so angry about the mess and noise that you temporarily missed this subtle detail. That probably explains– a lot– why they were acting the way they were. Though, that’s not the only thing your sensitive nose picked up on.
A new scent?
It smells like a wolf… no wait, multiple actually.
Could it be then?
Your eyes then turn to the direction that the group left, even though they are long gone.
“No, no, no! This is just one of those weird one time encounters.” You tried to rationalize.
You say one thing and you want to believe it but your fox knows better.
They’re shifters…
Your fox started chuckling in amusement as she felt you sit there, all dumbfounded. Confusion was running rampant in your head.
Is this even possible?
You’ve never come in contact with any other shifters before, aside from your mom, some very distant relatives, Heeseung, and his family.
Then unexpectedly, you started sniffing the air.
Sweet. Very sweet. Smells like… vanilla and a very light hint of jasmine. Want. More.
You couldn’t believe what your fox wanted. The only person that scent can come from was the guy from earlier. It had to be from him.
Your fox is hooked! She took in as much of his scent as possible.
“What am I doing?! Control yourself, Y/N!” You panicked, scanning around to make sure no one was looking at you or thinking you’re crazy for sniffing the air so heavily.
Why or how your fox is attracted to that guy, you don’t wanna know.
Plus, why would you ever want to see him around?
You don’t know him and you don’t want to.
But your fox begs to differ.
But I want to see him again…
The journey back to your dorm was done a lot quicker. You continuously looked left and right to avoid stumbling across anyone at this time of the night. One to prevent further embarrassing yourself and two, to keep your angsty fox in check.
As soon as you got back to your dorm, you rushed to the bathroom to wash the smell and residue off your body and change into a new set of clothes. That is, after you tried hand washing the stains off your clothes with little to no improvement. You eventually gave up, setting them aside for you to handle on laundry day.
When you finished washing up, you felt rejuvenated and relaxed. You went back to studying some more before calling it a night. The semester is going to start soon, but you still have some free time to spare, might as well savor it until the waves of stress get a hold of you again.
You’ll make the best of what you can.
Something that you’ve been doing lately is to go on these walks around campus. They vary in time and place. It’s quite calming in a way that makes you enjoy the scenery as the flowers start blooming, tree branches slowly grow out the greenest leaves, and butterflies flutter alongside each other. It really helps you clear your mind.
Despite how amazing this short moment of peace was, your attention was thrown off, soon directed towards a boisterous group of unfortunately familiar guys.
“Oh great…”
There in the middle of the nicely clean cut grass field was the same group of guys that you had the displeasure of meeting a couple of days ago. Not only that, there’s also more guys in their group this time. They were still as loud as ever, maybe even louder now that they are sober and have more in numbers.
“Go! Go! Catch it!”
“Awww jeez! You almost had it!”
“Next time! You’ll catch it next time for sure! Hahaha!”
“I better get out of here.” You sighed.
Hearing them laugh reminded you about the incident, so naturally, you didn’t want to be anywhere near them. Seems like you’ll be changing your route for today. Your back was turned and you were ready to walk away until you heard a familiar voice, his voice– deep and thrilled, and the scent of vanilla and jasmine coming back.
It’s him.
Your fox is excitedly chirping.
“Hey! I knew it! It was you?! Remember me?!” He said ecstatically after running out the field to where he stood now.
How did he even spot you?
You sluggishly turned around and your suspicions were corrected. You see that it was indeed the same guy who offered you those tissues.
“Yup, it’s me and yes… I do remember you.” You awkwardly greeted, stepping back a bit to keep your distance.
“What are you doing out here?” He asked curiously, with his sweet sunshine smile to then step forward to close the distance between the two of you.
You wanted to move back but your fox wanted to do the opposite, she wanted to get closer, still oddly drawn towards him.
Why?
What is it about him?
Was it his scent?
His looks?
Though you would be lying if you said he wasn’t handsome. He is, but the incident really changed the way you would look at him, even though it wasn’t his fault. Yet, still, you don’t know what the answer is to this strange attraction. The dots aren’t connecting.
“Just heading to the library to get some textbooks.” You hastily responded, this being the best excuse you could come up with on the spot as you tried to think of a way to escape from prolonging this conversation any further.
“Cool. Say, after you get your textbooks, wanna join us?” I promise it’ll be fun.”
He tilted his chin over to his friends, the group that had the same friends of his involved in that messy incident.
You blankly stare at him.
Seriously?
Has he already forgotten what happened a few days earlier?
Hah! As if that’ll ever happen.
“I think I’ll pass.” You politely rejected, hoping this will be the last time you coincidentally bumped into him.
Your fox on the other hand was disappointed.
Why?
You can feel her ears dropping down with her tail curled around herself.
“What is up with you girl?” You thought.
He lets out a saddened albeit understanding sigh, his hand rubs the side of his upper arm before letting out a light hearted chuckle.
“Alrighty. That’s okay. Then… I’ll see you around.”
Again, why does he seem so happy with the idea of you meeting him again?
It doesn’t make any sense, but you shrug it off, not wanting to put any more thought into it.
Just as you walk a few feet away, you pick up the sound of rapid footsteps speeding up, right behind you.
Alarmed, you twisted yourself around to find that guy running after you. At the speed that he was going, you’d think he was trying to tackle you down. Luckily, you never made contact with the ground as he stopped just in time.
“Great, just great. What does he want now?” You murmured, low enough for yourself to hear.
“I forgot to ask you the other day but… may I know your name?” He nervously asked.
Ooh?! Why does he want to know?!
“Hmmm…”
You observed him closely to see his chin tucked close to his chest, his gaze being averted to look at the ground, and his hands aimlessly fidgeting with one another.
Your fox whined pitifully.
Awww! Go ahead, please?! Help him!
Her instincts pushed her and you. It pushes you to comfort him, to make him less nervous of whatever’s bothering him. You however, the part of you controlled by reason, stood your ground, wanting to be left alone. You still held onto that feeling of bitterness.
“It’s Y/N.” You said plainly, hoping this would be enough to appease your fox.
Yes!
Seems to be a good enough answer since he gave you his full name in return with a great level of enthusiasm.
“Well it’s nice to meet you Y/N! I’m Felix Lee!”
His excitement couldn’t be contained. His smile reached all the way to his eyes.
He radiated happiness and sweetness.
Cute! I like him!
You smiled back at him, something you didn’t even know you were doing until it was too late.
“Okay, I’m going to go now.”
“Okay.” He responds with his smile softening.
Then you left shorter after.
“Oi Felix! Is everything alright?! Why did you leave the field?!” One of his friends shouted curiously from across the field.
Felix didn’t say anything immediately, watching you walk away melancholically.
“Yeah! I’m okay!” He then shouted back, returning to the field where his friends surrounded him.
“What’s wrong?” One of them asked.
“Yeah? Why are you frowning?” Another one of them asked.
He shook his head with a stiff smile appearing, “Nothing.”
Since you actually had textbooks that you needed, you decided to head to the library.
You were so lucky, extremely lucky that all the books that you were looking for, in every subject that needed one, were available and checked them out in time. After you did that, a load of other students came flooding in, in need of them too. You quickly left and returned to your dorm. The textbooks were set aside onto your desk as you checked your schedule.
In three days; that’s where the foundation of your future begins.
Well, this is it, this is going to be your path to take the first of many, many important steps in this entire lifetime.
For the past four years of your academic journey in high school, you were in total misery. It was beyond agonizing– in every possible aspect. The amount of hours that you spend being there was both physically and mentally draining. Even the smallest related mention of a subject about it, at the time, became insufferable. You would instantly feel your brain buzzing with stress.
It’s an era of torture and trauma that you would hope to never revisit again, not even in the next lifetime, if there is one. The more you think back about your time in high school, you were practically more stressed out than all your peers combined, maybe even more than some of the adults there too. However, you can say without a doubt, with all your teachers vouching for you, but you had to work twice as hard, sometimes even three to four times. You were one of the most remarkable students that your teachers have come across within the past couple of years.
By all means, you were an excelling student, exceeding your teachers standards, let alone the school’s basic and unregulated expectations of their students which wasn’t much. “You have a bright future ahead of you,” was a phrase you commonly heard thrown at you by your teachers and the few friends that you did have. As happy as you were to hear their compliments, you refused to allow it to distract you.
While your peers were busy savoring their limited time of being stress free, socializing, and whatever that is considered “fun”, you did the complete opposite. Unfortunately, unlike them, you couldn’t waste any time– even if you needed it.
Your focus was zoned in on your performance and grades. There were always additional materials– assignments in the form of worksheets, scholarly articles to read and review, and then there’s the endless research online to find other useful materials to compare to your notes– for you to put effort into, on top of what you were already responsible to complete at school. The discipline you had in place for yourself was rock solid– it still is.
You couldn’t slack off, not then at least. Which is why you carried such a heavy burden on your shoulders– the weight of your actions literally determines your future– and a significant ever constant amount of stress clinging into your mental space. Yet, even then, you were able to push through. You’ve worked tirelessly, even during breaks, to the brink of exhaustion.
You’re not even joking when you say you put your health on the line for your grades and it was one heavy toll. Others would have given up, eventually reaching their breaking point from burn out and yet, there you were, head down in a book while you kept on blinking sleepily till you fell asleep on top of it.
However torturous it was, it’ll be worth it, at least that’s what you told yourself and greatly hoped for. All this time and dedication was to ensure yourself that you absolutely earned a spot, albeit a very competitive spot, at the school of your dreams. You’ve been thinking and planning about going there since you were in elementary school, that itself just shows how serious you were. It’s known to be the one and only, prestigious Mondreth University.
Everyone who goes there, both professors and students say it wasn’t easy getting in– not in the slightest bit– but your hope remains intact. At the very least, you gave it your all and that you thankfully survived up to this point in your life.
In general, applicants who were able to turn in their forms on time can just about only depend on three things to get accepted. As for those who submitted theirs late, even just by a mere minute, they can forget about it. The university had a very strict deadline and they made that known through the loads of emails they sent out to those that were interested in applying. Whenever you saw one, you immediately jotted it down somewhere, either in your notes or calendar app.
If you remember correctly, it was stated once that the admissions office does have some exceptions for those who submitted their forms late. Although, those exceptions weren’t ever specified which is likely why you suspected that they don’t exist altogether. It’s of course sad to see someone else’s hard work go to waste just like that, but things like this always happen around the admissions season.
Now, it is said that students can depend on three factors to get in, this refers to one’s social status, luck, and academics. Although, this also applies to the thousands of other universities reviewing and deciding each applicant’s likelihood to get accepted. For you, you could only rely on one thing in this situation.
Your social status was out of the equation. You weren’t someone important or well known in the eyes of society. You’re just a nobody, an invisible person who likes to contribute to society in your own quiet way. Another major detail to note is that neither you or your mom could ever scrape enough money together to pay off the hefty semesterly tuition. Plus, there’s no way that you’d ever jump to the conclusion of taking out a loan either from the bank. Anyone who had a similar upbringing like yours would find the numbers to be nauseating to look at.
Then there’s luck. Always an open option, yet never dependable. It really just depends on what the universe is feeling like. On some particular days, they can go on decently, and then there are others that go horribly wrong. That’s why you relied solely on your academic standing. Nothing beats solid evidence and it’s also the only thing you can control in the entire process.
According to your research, officially on paper and in their website, the acceptance rate is stated to be a fifty, fifty percent chance to get in. But that’s simply not true– total bullshit in fact, laughable even. What an easy way to deceive people right? Whoever wrote that must’ve been really misinformed or dumb. Lots of current, recently and previously graduated students who attended said it’s practically close to being ten to a ninety percent chance. What a difference that makes? The odds were certainly stacked against you, but you went for it anyway.
The decision you made to send your application in was probably one of the bravest or stupidest things you did, however the verdict will be concluded when you get the letter from the university.
As the memories of your decisions came flooding back, you somewhat realized a little too late that it was a little (very) idiotic of you to only apply to one university, whereas all your fellow peers selected a couple more to be safe.
You would’ve been so screwed.
Hope for the best and expect the worst is what you told yourself repeatedly after all application deadlines came to a final close.
All you can do now is wait.
The waiting period certainly took a while, though soon enough, you’ll find out that you will be granted the chance of a lifetime.
As of right now, school has finally and officially ended for you about a week ago after attending your less than thrilling graduation. It was the blandest ceremony you had to take part in. Even the decorations that were put up with minimal effort and care consists of a few balloons and last minute, messily made banners to be hung up somewhere. All of you had to stand throughout the majority of your time spent there in the old auditorium theater, with no air conditioning or vent system in your stuffy gowns, until you were all asked to be seated.
Now, you didn’t care if it went against school policy or risk being caught and scolded by staff, but you took your cap off to start fanning yourself. Seeing you do this, the other students around you followed your example, unwilling to make this experience any more miserable than it already is. Then came the speeches with high praise and inspirational quotes, all delivered by the principal in monotone.
The energy in the auditorium was at an all time low. Not a single smile stayed on anyone’s faces, including the staff members that attended. You had predicted the ceremony to be like this which is why you would’ve gladly skipped all of this if not for a handful of your friends begging you to go. So, you went, for them, but in return you had to waste about five hours of your life sitting there in total boredom. You were so bored that at one point, you nearly fell asleep on Heeseung’s shoulder if it weren’t for him lightly tapping your leg with his.
By the four hour mark, you were done. You seriously contemplated if you should just leave then and there and ask the school to send everything to your house. However, to everyone’s relief, it was time to give out the rewards. Awards were being called out, as names upon names were announced through the microphone. The first few titles of awards got loud applauses, the ones after those received less, and some not at all for how ridiculous that it is even considered an award.
Your name was called upon a couple of times, leaving your hands full of trophies, medals, and paper certificates.
But you could care less about these things. All you wanted was your diploma and bolt out of there as soon as you could.
“Just hang on a little longer…” Heeseung whispered as he tilted towards you.
“I’m trying.” You mumbled back through gritted teeth.
Then finally, the ceremony came to end with a depressing song being played out by the school’s band.
Heck, there wasn’t even a celebratory party afterwards, that was it.
Either way, if there was one, you’d probably expect it to be no different than the graduation ceremony.
With your diploma and rewards in hand, you said goodbye to your friends– forever to some and presently for others– before you got out of there speedily, sneaking out from the back doors where your mom was waiting for you in her car by the parking lot meant for staff members only. You got back home and did nothing more than rest since.
So on this particularly nice sunny Saturday morning, you slept in.
You desperately needed to fix your sleep schedule after messing it up with all those sleepless nights to revise your papers for a variety of subjects, submitting separate projects on time, and studying like your life depended on it.
Plus, you have nothing better to do during this short break.
Still in bed, you slowly shifted to your side to get comfortable again since you’ve laid in the same spot for a while now. Your hand goes searching for the edge of your blanket, till you find it, pulling it up to your neck to keep yourself warm against the cool breeze blown in by your air conditioner.
As you return to that deep zone of sleep, a loud crash could be heard on impact, on the other side of your room’s door. Startled awake and groggy, you quickly sat up– there’s no way you could find yourself falling back asleep now. You tried your best to wake up quicker, yawning and rubbing the sleep out of your eyes before hearing your bedroom door being violently yanked open. There in your doorway was your mom, looking utterly panicked, completely out of breath, sweating with a hand on her knee while the other was outstretched to show an envelope.
“The letter! It just came in the mail!” She exclaims, stepping closer to you.
You’re fully awake now!
You threw your blanket to the side as you jumped out of bed.
This is it– the moment of truth. Your future is literally in your hands at this moment. All that effort, all those sacrifices you’ve made was judged, decided, and the final conclusion is contained within this very envelope. With shaky hands, you carefully took the envelope out of your mom’s hands to scan the outside– it felt so unreal to hold it.
Your full name and house address were skillfully written at the front in script with white ink. When you turned it around, you saw it, there it was, the wax seal and crest of the university that you’ve been anxiously waiting to hear from. But you can’t be happy too soon.
You held your breath, swiftly pulling the envelope’s tab that made the wax seal come undone. The trembling in your hands intensified as you pulled out the folded letter from within.
You gave yourself a few seconds to let it all sink in until you finally unfolded it.
“Dear Ms.L/N…” You mumbled. “We are…”
You read the first line slowly and said nothing. It was like someone turned the off switch on you, there was no reaction. Your face was blank. Yet, you reread the words on this single piece of paper, over and over again out of sheer disbelief. The silence was engulfing.
“W-Well?” Your mom anxiously asked.
“I…I got in?” You mumbled.
Your mom’s jaws drop, laying her head into her hands as she screamed and cried at the same time. She felt so proud and overjoyed to know that your hard work has paid off and that your wishes were heard by the universe.
She was there to witness it all, to see how much you worked, how much you desperately want this, more than anything in your life.
“... I GOT IN! OH MY GOD?! I ACTUALLY GOT IN!”
The reality of what you just read finally sunk in, making you jump up and down ecstatically. You and your mom hugged, the warmest hug you’ve felt in a long time. She slightly pulled back, gently and proudly wiping your tears away with her palms as she smiled at you.
“I knew you’d get in! See?! What did I tell you?! You have nothing to worry about!” She cheered, hugging you even tighter.
“Thanks Mom.” You said, sobbing out happy tears.
“Alright, let’s celebrate! I’ll go make your favorite breakfast!” She excitedly announced with her rushing back downstairs.
“Crap! I gotta tell Heeseung!”
You didn’t even bother wasting any time to pull the charger off before hastily tapping to his contact. Your phone rang out once, twice, and by the third ring, it went through. When he answered, you could hear him let out a yawn before he started talking.
“H-Hello?” He sleepily said, while he continued to lay in bed, barely awake.
“Heeseung! I got in! I got in! I GOT IN!”
“What?! Congratulations! Never doubted you for a second!” He screamed over the phone as he sat up.
“Thank you! But have you gotten your acceptance letter yet?”
“Nope, but I’ll probably hear from them soon if you have gotten yours already.” He said calmly, yawning midway.
The two of you talked for a bit more before you hung up to let him get some more sleep.
You were left with the silence in your room, still utterly stunned. It felt like you were dreaming, but this was real– this was actually real! You had to read the letter once more to make sure you weren’t fooling yourself, but everything checked out.
“Y/N!”
The letter was set aside when you heard your mom calling for you from downstairs. Your nose was quick to pick up the aroma of breakfast. Your stomach grew impatient– roaring at you– as it demanded for food.
Go.
Now.
“Alright, alright, I hear the two of you. I’m going…” You spoke up as you felt your fox purring in satisfaction from within.
You ran downstairs, nearly every step you took became a tripping hazard, but you didn’t care as long as you got into your seat in one piece. You pulled your seat out, sat down, then scooted closer to the table again.
“Breakfast is served!” Your mom sang, hanging you a plate.
Yes! Food!
Saliva pooled in your mouth from the smell alone, you dug in hungrily. All the food on your plate was gone in record speed, but no worries, your plate was soon refilled for you to enjoy. When you had your fill, you hurried to help your mom clean everything up before making your way back to your bedroom– there’s no time to fool around.
As much as you wanted to use this time to relax during the summer, you still had work that needed to be done. First things first, you completed the process of officially accepting Mondreth’s offers online. Then you planned everything out accordingly. Once Mondreth saw that you accepted their offer, you were able to schedule an appointment to meet with your advisors, counselors, some current students attending the university acting as guides, and even went on the most phenomenal orientation ever.
The campus is insanely enormous, something so magical and crazily expensive to maintain that you would have a hard time believing it existed if you weren’t there physically.
There were literally buildings the size of castles and some even looked the part. Hallways stretched on for miles with tons of connecting corridors. Classrooms are ten times the size of the biggest room in your house. Their gardens would be the perfect depiction for the ones written in fairy tale novels. It was all just… mind blowing.
You’re quite lucky to dorm here too.
You only found that out a little later on to your biggest shock. Not only were you accepted as a student, that itself was a miracle, but you were also given a full ride scholarship for your attendance. How and why? You don’t know.
Maybe your luck wasn’t as bad as you thought?
That means, you get to live on campus, with your food, textbooks, and any services used on campus all covered. The only thing you have to worry about is studying. Sure that brings a lot of pressure back onto you, but you’re confident in your abilities to stay on top of things.
While you’re preparing for this life changing moment, you and your mom had many deep, meaningful conversations. In several of them, the two of you ended up crying. As sad as it is that you have to leave, she reminded you that this was only the beginning of your amazing future.
“Go chase your dreams. Don’t let me or anyone else for the matter stop you from accomplishing greatness. The further you go, the prouder I’ll be. So don’t forget that.” She said during the end of one of those conversations.
Both of your foxes were on the same emotional roller coaster as the two of you.
You made the best of what little time the two of you had before you had to leave. You're grateful that your mom has always been supportive of your aspirations and would go to great lengths to help you. So, it’s not a big surprise that she was insistent on helping you pack your things. Every item of yours was packed with care and organized into each labeled box. Packing had never felt easier yet glum.
All your things would be loaded into the back seats and trunk of her car before the two of you hopped in.
With the engine waking, seatbelts clicked in place, the ride began as your mom changed the gear to drive mode. The ride to the campus was long and memorable– singing your favorite songs together and making jokes that crack you up as you go. Then once the car was parked right next to your dorm’s building, you started unloading everything.
You and your mom would each carry as much as you could before stepping into the building to take a ride up the elevator. Every ding that sounded out meant you got closer and closer to your dorm’s floor. When the doors opened, you continuously looked left and right to find the exact dorm room number you’ve diligently memorized.
“Oh this one…”
“It’s this one?” Your mom asked.
“Yup, but just to make sure…” You set the boxes down to dig into your pockets for the kings. “Please work?”
Click. The door opens.
“Oh… my… goodness…” Your mom spoke in amazement. “Look at this place?!”
Your entire dorm was already furnished. The place itself reminds you a lot more of a hotel suite than a student dorm. Then again this is Mondreth University.
Plus, you have this whole place to yourself.
However, you're happy to see the presentation though you can’t settle down just yet. It took about a good three or so hours to clean the place up and then set your things around your bedroom, bathroom, living room, and so on.
“Phew! Well… this is it.” You concluded, stepping back to look proudly at your living quarters.
The two of you were trying your best to keep it together, failing spectacularly, though it only deepened the sadness as you two stood in the parking lot.
It’s such a bittersweet moment.
“I’m so, so proud of you.” Your mom reminded you tearfully, hugging you tightly– wanting to savor this moment.
Her tears poured out the longer she held you. You couldn’t find yourself letting her go either. But eventually, she was the first to let go, wiping away your tears and snot as she always had with her sleeve.
“Alright it’s time for me to go but please, please take care of yourself. I know you always push yourself to work hard but don’t overdo it. And don’t ever, and I mean ever hesitate to come back home if it becomes too much for you to handle, okay?” Your mom wisely advised with as much reassurance as she could muster into her voice.
“I will…” You said, holding her one last time in her loving embrace.
You watched her walk towards her car. She slowly clicked her seatbelt into place, turned the ignition on, both of her hands gripped onto the stirring wheel, and rolled the window down to say one last thing.
“Oh and make sure not to cause any trouble…” Your mom joked.
“I won’t. Can’t promise she won’t though.” You laugh it off.
Your fox didn’t find it funny, groaning in response, slightly annoyed but knowing fully well she meant it with good intentions.
Your mom waved goodbye then drove off. You waved back at her, standing there until you could no longer see her car in the distance.
Now left alone, you wiped away your tears and marched back to your dorm in hopes to start reviewing some of the materials your professors had posted. Although in the midst of your review, that lasted for about half an hour, your stomach awakened, demanding for food. Ignoring it became difficult with each sentence you read being given a loud reminder from your gurgling stomach.
I’m hungry too…
Letting out a heavy sigh, you leaned back onto your chair.
“Okay, okay, fine. Just a quick bite and then back to studying.” You tell yourself, grabbing your wallet and keys, then out the door you go.
Of course, you had to make sure your door was locked before you could feel assured as you made your way to the dining hall.
The walk there only took a couple of minutes as you started walking up the light grey front steps, pulled the metal door handle, and stepped in. Inside, the place was booming with people, coming both in and out. A ton of people were lining up to different food stalls with their unique cuisines presented behind glass displays. The entire place echoed hundreds or maybe even thousands of conversations happening all at the same time.
Seems like a fun place to be in.
Despite how easy it is to get familiar navigating around the dining hall, it was still a bit overwhelming to your senses– from the sounds, smells, and movements happening at once.
Looking around, you got into one of the shorter lines, scanning the menu from the big screen of where you stood.
It was hard to choose what you wanted since surprisingly enough, most of the meals listed are actually affordable and not overpriced as they usually are in these types of establishments. However, the cost isn’t something you should be concerned about anyways since the money you spent on food would be covered by your full ride scholarship. By the time there were only two people ahead of you on the line, you decided to go with something more simple and quick to finish. You placed your order, paid what was due, and waited on the side like the others until you got your food a few minutes later.
Mmmmm…
It smelled too good for you to bring it back to your dorm and eat. So you went searching for a spot that is a bit more quiet and remote from all the activity happening within the center of the dining hall. Sure enough, by some form of luck, you found the perfect spot– it was in a tiny corner where there’s a table big enough to seat one person.
You quickly walked over to claim the spot, sat down, and started eating. While you eat, your eyes scan around from time to time. There were plenty of outstanding personalities mixed together. You can somewhat tell what some of the other students are majoring in or at least have an interest in.
Some of the art majors were easy to spot. They are seen together in a tight knitted group, carrying their art work or supplies around in their portable portfolios. Their fashion sense could also be another dead give away– categorized into three general groups being expressive, elegant, and plain, or a blend depending on their preferences, day, or feelings.
The only thing that they all have in common is their dedication and the passion they have for their work.
Hopefully, you can make some friends as you’re majoring in one of the toughest majors with them.
Right as you were ready to take another bite, you suddenly felt this immense, heavy weight crash onto your back. You had no time to react. The force was so strong that your chest made contact with the wooden table’s surface. Your once delicious meal now decorates your shirt and jeans.
Grumbling in annoyance, you could hear their loud laughter coming from behind you.
“Jeez! You actually knocked into someone?” One of the guys joked within his group of friends.
