I actually love how this one turned out so much and I was so excited to show it to you as fast as possible!! We're all going to see how it goes down in a matter of HOURS (although I'll be watching in the morning on the 1st) and even tho I'm stressed I'm actually mainly extremely excited and trying to have my hopes up 💙💛 that's why I also wanted to post this fanart while I'm still feeling cheerful, just to enjoy it with you :)

I've had SO much fun interacting with this fandom for the past month, making fanart for you to enjoy and I'm so thankful for your general, overwhelmingly positive response 🫶 I fell in love with Stranger Things right away when I first watched it in 2017 and even tho I wasn't very active in the fandom up until this year - I had been lurking 👁👁 y'all are geniuenly so fun and creative and smart, it's been such a rewarding experience and a pleasure going crazy together and I hope we will continue to enjoy ourselves, no matter the outcome! Ok but I have to admit that the Duffers resolving the jancy/stancy love triangle by making them all platonic across the board is incredibly funny

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Stranger Things has an issue with scale.

Their strongest seasons -- 1 and 2 -- were grounded and had such a nostalgic and small-town feel to them. They had one supernatural focus and were able to make the characters feel more real and organic.

Season 3 is when they first cranked up the budget, and the character work really suffered for it. They scaled up the spectical of the supernatural plot and started to reduce the characters down into caricatures of themselves (mostly jopper and jancy at this point).

By season 4, there is wayyy too much going on. The scope of the show outgrew what it originally was. It doesn't even feel like the same show a lot of people fell in love with. The three different plots feel kind of disorienting, and it leaves very little room to breathe.

That's why I was really excited for season 5 -- it was an opportunity to ground the show back down to its roots. That's how it was advertised. But the scale is still so big. From the get-go, the cast still has to unravel the mystery of Vecna, the Mind Flayer, AND the source of the Upside Down. But they decided to also amp up the military plot on top of that? And expand the cast? There is so much going on, the scale is still so much larger than it originally was. It's so unfocused and distracting. And nothing has even been properly resolved as of episode 7.

The Duffers expanded the scale of the show way past what their team is capable of.

Ep 7 spoilers:

I genuinely think that the "They're just my Tammy" thing is just Will being an unreliable narrator tbh. He still chose to keep one secret under wraps (the fact that it's Mike) and downplayed it. This will probably play heavily into the finale, like a Chekov's Gun situation that is begging to be addressed. It'll probably (hopefully!) come up with the painting

Johnathan's line about being a team (which I'm assuming is directed towards Nancy) directly parallels one of the byler heart-to-hearts in S4. Which, to me, confirms the S4 dialog as romantic. Lock in twin, we are so winning.
