I just finished finals, all while thinking about this game and everything it stands for that has been missed by so many; how so many people refuse to believe a victim until they're victimised themselves, how some are unable to see through the narrative written by an abuser, and how easy it is for some to forgive those who enable abuse to run rampant for the sake of peace. This is not a condemnation of all but rather a path for reflection, of asking ourselves what it is we know and have been taught about abuse and it’s victims and what being a bystander truly means. It’s more than doing nothing; it's doing actions that prevent nothing, that protect an abuser through hopeful ignorance and the idea of “not wanting to ruin [the abuser’s] life.” This only gives an abuser more power. What happened was Jimmy’s fault but Curly gave him power by “protecting the peace in order to not ruin Jimmy’s life” and put Anya and the rest of the crew in danger by doing so, all for the idea of who Jimmy could be rather than who he really was.

Just some food for thought that’s been rattling around in my brain. Don’t be a bystander (and don’t be an abuser but I hope that's obvious).
