I got myself a puppy for my birthday. His name is Garrus and he is a Beauceron. I made him a blog if you wanted to follow along with my dog ownership journey or just wanted to see a bunch of puppy pictures:

Stolen from reddit where it wasn't being properly appreciated
"Indigo dyeing silk thread"
In case anyone wonders what the Japanese is saying
I just learned about this recently from a Viking reenactor! Indigo dye isn't blue until it oxidizes, so when you dye with indigo your cloth or thread doesn't come out of the water blue, it comes out and then reacts with the oxygen in the air and seems to spontaneously turn blue in front of your eyes. It's a really cool process to witness.
Farmers tan is just seal-point coloration for outdoorsy types.
It does indicate the bits of you that get hotter on a regular basis!
We officially scrapped our BWCA plans tonight. It... hurts. Nothing we are looking at compares to what I get out of this trip, and I realize how Not Normal I am about camping. Wilderness camping is apparently not the norm for a lot of folks and as we talk about "amenities" at these other options available to me, I find it vastly unappealing.
I WILL go camping. I WILL connect with nature. I WILL have a good fucking time... it's just not quite the same.
killing things together is a bonding exercise actually don't worry about it

My mom has told me about this video multiple times. It seems to define parenting for her. I get it now.

people with siblings: how do you feel about them?
everyone on tumblr knows about Catholic guilt but i think a lesser known variant that deserves just as much awareness is Protestant irritation
Protestant irritation is what happens when someone does something that is like 99% harmless, entirely without stakes, and at most just kind of makes you feel a little bit miffed and then you forget about it in 5 minutes. But the thing is that Protestant irritation will stack up on you like microaggressions until suddenly your friend is 15 minutes late to something and you're convinced that when they arrive you have to kill them about it. Do not listen to the Protestants. You have also been 15 minutes late to something a lot before. Allow yourself one (1) kvetch in the group chat and then accept the wisdom that people around you deserve just as much graciousness and patience as you do
Protestant Work Ethic is what happens when you let the Protestant Irritation convince you that a person for any reason whatsoever not constantly doing 120% at their 9-5 is basically a sin.
The Baptist equivalent is "Baptist groveling" where you're absolutely certain that if you need to go to a food bank because you have 2 slices of moldy bread and a can of pinto beans in your pantry to last you until payday you need to apologize to God and also everyone in your community for being an incalculable burden on good honest folk.
Orthodox Dilemmas are what happens when no one is certain about whether something is actually as important as everyone is making it out to be but they're all about to kill each other over it because admitting that either they were wrong or someone else might have a point would get them called a heretic.
I can't even frame this as a joke, I have a genuine appreciation for Quakers as an organization being actually willing to own up that they were hypocritical pieces of shit to BIPOC for longer than they had any right to be and then doing a hell of a lot of work to actually meaningfully fix that shit and listen to us when we say something is wrong. I resent that they still have an evangelical missionary branch but I can't even pretend this is "well, if I had to pick a least bad denomination", it really is no contest. If I bring up concerns about racism baked into Christian principles and practices to a Quaker I'm far more willing to bet they'd actually hear me out than a Lutheran would.
Calvinist Hell is the fucking timeline I am forced to exist in without my consent let me OUTTTT
in light of that recent post i reblogged, lets do a poll
