There are many controversial questions for photography. The one that I will be talking about is photoshop. Many photographers think that photoshop or manipulating an image isn’t true photography. Others believe that photoshop is a great tool for photographers. It can go 50/50 but I believe that the style of your artwork should be a personal preference. All the way back to the days of the darkroom people have been manipulating and altering images. Even some of the most famous photographers, for example Ansel Adams, are well known for their skill in manipulating their images. If your work makes you proud it does not matter how you created your artwork. In the photo posted above, I manipulated the sky. I brought down the exposure and added the contrast. Personally, I see nothing wrong with this because I was creating the mood that I wanted my photo to express.

Photography Trends!

I have noticed a big trend in photography: polaroid cameras. Every young person in this generation wants a polaroid camera. I even want one. The old style and instant results, it is such a vintage/grudge thing that’s in right now.

A few years back polaroids almost were extinct so in 2008 ‘The Impossible Project’ began to save the camera you remember from every favorite childhood memory. This project is actually still very popular today. I know that this will soon fade out which is such a shame because it is such a great piece of technology and history. The next big thing is sorta connected to the polaroid camera still, same concept just digital. Of course. They are making it so you can have the same concept but through your IPhone because carrying around “a big bulky camera” sucks. The thing is, that to me is only half of the fun! You get to really experience how it used to be years ago. It’s really a shame that things can’t ever be saved and altered. People want modern and that is so sad. I know film for this camera is expensive and that is such a buzzkill so that is a big issue with keeping such a beautiful vintage technology. Posted above is an example of my work demonstrating how beautiful these cameras are able to preform.

How to create a Matte look using Photoshop!

So you want to create a matte effect on your photos? Well you are in luck, it is SUPER EASY! So the first thing you want to do is open your image you want into Photoshop. I recommend using a RAW image because if you use a JPEG you are chipping away the pixels and manipulating it and lowering the quality!

Step two: The second step is to open the curve panel. You can find this at the bottom right corner, the icon that looks like a half moon.

Once you clicked it, the curve panel will show up. You can pull up on the bottom point on the grid until you reach your personal desired effect. The middle point you want to move down just slightly to create a curve.

Step 3: You want to bring up the Levels panel. To do so you can find the ‘half moon’ icon in the bottom right corner. Right click and choose levels.

Step 4: Lastly, you want to bring the two arrows in toward the middle of the bar. (I circled them in red) Start with the right arrow to you get the effect you want. Then you can follow up with the left arrow to your desired effect.

If you feel like you lost too much contrast, move the arrow on the grid (circled in blue) toward the middle!

Now this is probably the easiest step of all.. ENJOY!
