Help Tawfiq and His Children Escape the Trauma of War
My name is Tawfiq Al-Tatri. I am 40 years old, a father of five, and a survivorâbut survival here in Gaza is not truly living. My children and I have lost everything. Our home, our safety, our communityâgone.
We now live in a refugee camp, crammed inside a fragile tent, shivering through the freezing nights, unsure where we will be tomorrow. We have been displaced over and over again, fleeing destruction, heartbreak, and loss. My home was bombed with my family inside. By some miracle, we survivedâbut so many of our neighbors and relatives did not.
As a father, my only mission now is to protect my children, to give them a future beyond war and suffering. I dream of getting them to safety, away from the fear that haunts their every step. But I cannot do it alone.
That is why I am reaching out, with hope in my heart, asking for your kindness. Your support can help us cover the costs of leaving Gaza for Egyptâgiving my children a chance at life, at healing, at simply being children again.
Please, if you can, stand with us. Help me save my children from the trauma of war. Every donation, every share, every prayer brings us closer to safety
Thank you from the depths of my heart.

I needed some cheering up.
many of our ancestors worked so hard to be not farming and I deeply appreciate that
I love not farming
I respect the hell out of farmers and I'm glad that's someone's dream. because it's sure not mine
I would not be taken in by the tradwife influencer grift about milking a cow in a sundress. I have been around cows. my uncle was a dairy farmer. I love not milking a cow. I love getting milk from a store. I love getting vegetables and fruit and meat and bread from a store.
would I rather it be a local farm's store or a local bakery or butcher shop? yes! maybe when I make more money!
but oh. my god. I love not farming so much
I fear a lot of christians' takeaway from the story of the garden of eden etc etc was that knowledge is bad. And that's why they're like this. Like genuinely that's just part of the ideology ohhhh nooooo
[ID: a reply from @birdman-general that reads, "oh is there another intended takeaway (genuinely curious) (this is the only implication ive heard besides obedience to god) (lifelong atheist but have mormon family) (shits depressing genuinely)" /end ID]
Yes, actually!
I can't necessarily speak for *intended* takeaway (authorial intent on Thee Bible is kind of. Uh) but in Judaism -- which generally encourages questioning and critical thinking, and places a good deal of cultural emphasis on intellectual pursuits in general -- I've seen a number of different interpretations from different people. The moral of the story doesn't have to be "knowledge bad" and/or "women are the root of all evil"
Like, you can interpret it as humanity becoming something "more" than other animals by this act of independent thought (good thing). You could say that God did this intentionally, you could point out that the first thing Eve did with it was share, that Adam took it in trusting his wife. You can take being cast out of Eden as more allegorical of leaving a sort of womb, something necessary. So on and so forth. But yeah the main thing is Being Capable Of Thought isn't, uh, BAD? A popular belief in Judaism is that our understanding of right and wrong is what makes us human and makes our choice to do good meaningful, where animals can only act on instinct
There's kind of a whole thing in christianity of Children's Innocence and Blissful Ignorance and etc etc etc that's like. A lot to unpack. And helps us understand the ideology behind their political interests đ but all of that is FAR far far far from the only reading of the text itself
*leaving a big fat fuck asterisk on this that Jewish people famously love disagreeing with each other I'm just speaking from, like, my personal studies & the takes I've seen most often
âThe ad was in a womenâs magazine and if I remember correctly, was for a perfume. It featured a white woman lying in bed with a black man. The manâs shirtless back was to the viewer, making only his taut, muscular form and powerful-looking arms and shoulders visible. He was faceless, unidentified. The woman looked sultrily at us from over his mysterious form, satisfaction writ large over her features. She had partaken of whatever delights this man had to offer and was smugly, luxuriantly basking in the afterglow. The ad copy was, âTake a walk on the wild side.â My teacher used the ad as an example of how marketers can use certain words and images to convey large amounts of information subtly and effectively. A white woman having sex with a black man? How risquĂŠ. The implication: be a little like that woman. Spray on that perfume and feel like the kind of girl who has sex with faceless, muscular black men in ritzy hotel rooms because itâs an adventure, a thrill, a risk, something illicitly pleasurable. These are the semiotics of race. This is why columnists will trip over themselves not to call Lupita Nyongâo or Angela Basset âbeautifulâ, choosing instead to use terms that call to mind a kind of savage, animalistic magnetism: fierce, striking, edgy, eye-catching. Words like âprettyâ and âbeautifulâ and âcuteâ are for white women whose bodies and sexualities are not seen as wild, animal, or untamed. Black men are hulking, threatening, thuggish; white men are charming, sexy heartthrobs with hearts of gold. Brown women are exotic, with their âhoney-colouredâ skin and their âmysticalâ, âenchantingâ beauty, unlike their white counterparts, who are held up as not only ideal, but knowable and safe. White people are beautiful; non-white people are dangerous.â

War returned without any official announcement!
Death and shelling and casualties everywhere, and the mutilated bodies of children, and the evacuation and destruction of homes and the displacement of entire residential areas. Reconnaissance and combat aircraft and helicopters all the time, and targets in the streets and markets and the expansion of control zones.
Feelings of fear and anxiety.. and the terror of children returned quickly, after we had at least been in some kind of safety and calm, believing that all this had passed and ended.
All of this happens in silence, without announcement, without labels of "military operations" or "return of war," without statements.. and quietly.. without intervention or attempts or statements or pressures.
And thus we are left alone.. abandoned, being slaughtered, and the scene itself not even broadcast on screens because there are things more important.

Hey all,
In my absence, Eman's village's situation has been getting worse, far far worse. As the fabric of Sudan's medical and other social infrastructures have been destroyed by war and genocide, displaced people are seeing a high risk of disease outbreaks amongst them. This is what Eman's village is currently going through, and her family has been one of many affected by dengue fever.
Eman is scared, alone, and feels like her family's situation is invisible. Please show her that she isn't alone, and that her and her family and her village aren't invisible. Please if you can spare anything, help Eman @emiiii980 out.

Please help my friend Mahmoud if you can. His family continues to live through ordeals one after another. In the past couple of years, he has been struck with shrapnel twice, once in his back and once in his brain, his wife had to undergo cancer treatment for stage 4 cancer on her own, they gave birth to a baby but weren't able to feed him and he starved for days if not weeks, a wall collapsed on their tent and they were stuck under the rubble for 15 minutes before being rescued, and just 2 months ago, their 5 year old son passed away and now they have to pay off the debt they took on to pay for funeral expenses. Terfs genuinely seem to believe women are physically inferior to men so it isnât surprising to me that some take that self-loathing to other levels.
Women are actually capable of doing anything they set their minds to, intellectual or physical, everything is a skill that can be learned. Men create myths of womenâs inferiority including physical to justify their secondary status, âthey need someone strong to protect (read: privately abuse) them.â
Theyâve convinced women we cannot learn the skill of muscle building and fighting so not only that we donât physically compete with them and potentially win but also to subjugate us. They donât want you fighting back, in the private sphere or in the public sphere of politics. Women have been the leaders of guerrilla movements the world over - China, Vietnam, El Salvador, Palestine, the Philippines (ongoing). Would you say they were weaker than their male counterparts? Obviously not, because those male opponents died trying to fight them. Look at Lyudmila Pavlichenko.
Women should actually be demanding participation in physical training spaces and widespread knowledge of self-defense skills including firearms training. We need to create collective parity with men and their monopoly on violence is in our disfavor.
Who else has a monopoly on violence? The capitalists and the imperialists. Patriarchy is a division created by class society and endless expansion by empire leaves behind so many particular issues for women. Sudden loss of health services and martyrdom of family members being just one of them.
These are issues that women should be collectively focusing on and drawing connections to but it seems some are willing to concede the ground of women not being lesser than men physically or intellectually just to affirm other bigotries.
Meanwhile Iâm arguing for women to become united on a class basis to become armed to resist violence collectively. Who do you think has the better view on womenâs liberation? Hmm itâs a hard choice, Iâm going with the blackpilled nihilism #imjustagirl Lana del Ray dark academia posting with a side of gender phrenology. That seems like itâll free women.

Life outside seems easier than the 'prison life' we endure in Gaza. I try to imagine other places where life is difficult, but I realize that even the harshest environments are open; at least there is a way out. Gaza is a closed prison. A rocket could kill you at any moment, food and water are rationed, and the heaviest burden is being besieged by memories, destruction, and graves. It is a constant cycle of physical and psychological torment.
Prices in Gaza have started to rise unusually, and goods have almost disappeared from the markets. Types of vegetables are scarce and expensive, and meats have vanished from the markets too. I mean, what's happening is the beginning of a new famine; food is expensive and scarce in the markets!

Strong contender for the best chapter in Moby Dick is the one where they meet another ship whose captain lost a limb to the white whale (an arm instead of a leg) and that guy is Completely Normal about it. Thinks itâs ridiculous to get vengeance against a dumb animal. Hasnât tried to chase Moby Dick since, because why the fuck would he? I'm terrified that I won't be able to pay my rent & bills this month!!
Monday, April 27th:Â Hello, everyone. Iâm Gem, a bi, mentally ill, and disabled woman in desperate need of help, as I'm struggling to pay some bills, which have caused me to go into the negative.
I apologise for asking for help again. As most of you know from my previous posts, I have been struggling to make ends meet while on welfare. And due to my outstanding bills and ever-increasing debt, it has been difficult for me to make ends meet. These past few months have been absolute hell, and with no other income, I've been relying on the kindness of others to get by.
However, I desperately need that kindness again, as direct debits that I didn't realise were due have been charged to my account. And I've tried really hard to put off making this post and deal with the overdrawn balance myself, but I'm really struggling, as I can't possibly pay this off on my own with the limited welfare I receive, which I don't receive until the 30th!! Additionally, if I can't pay these off before I receive my welfare, then it will be taken by this overdrawn balance.
Again, I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if itâs just ÂŁ1/$1/âŹ1, it would mean a lot, and sharing helps just as much.Â
Thank you â¤ď¸

it's so baffling to see israel just get away with bombing multiple countries in the name of self defence. as if israel doesn't have a history of targeting hospitals and schools and kindergartens and refugee camps.
i remember when israel bombed a refugee camp last may. they used bombs that could level multiple city blocks on tents made out of tarp sheltering refugees. i remember the outrage and the protests following that.
i wish that people would continue to care like that for gaza again. we cannot become desensitised to genocide because it's been happening for a long time. as a matter of fact, our support for palestinians must increase as the genocide progresses.
i request you to please support a mother and her two young children. the food is expensive and alaa only wants to feed her children. even a small donation will help. [verification]
