We see a bunch of new systems on Instagram and we are thinking about making an account as well.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Should we?
Edit: We have an Instagram account now! ^_^
Me, the host: oh I haven't heard from anyone from our system in a few days. I hope everyone is okay. Oh my...maybe I'm really just faking. How would this even be possible? I was imagining all along...
Meanwhile, everyone else in the system: rapidly switching out without me knowing, because of the amnesia, finding out through notes in our journal and empty oreo boxes
Hey, can I ask you a question? I don't want to bother you. See, I do feel like there are more people living inside of me, and they make their voices be heard but don't, how you say, take control at any moment. There are just there and some are kind of mean and I don't know what to do about this. Do you have an idea of why this may be? Thank you so much.
Hi! What you are describing sounds pretty similar to what I experienced for years. I thought they, the "voices", weren't able to control the body, but I just didn't remember it. That's a part of DID: you are not supposed to know about it. Only later I realized how much time I was losing. I am not a professional, but I can tell you how I did it. I left sticky notes and journals around my house and room with information about DID and how to reach out to me. Eventually, alters started leaving notes for me as well! That was about 2 months before I got an official diagnosis. My psychologist told me that she would have advised me to leave such messages, but I was faster, haha. Maybe try that. Something that is also important to remember is that figuring this out takes a lot of time. If you can please seek out a professional. This can be also pretty hard, but definitely worth it (I had to switch psychologists, but eventually I found the perfect one for each of us ^^). It is important to be open to everyone and be excepting, even with the "mean" ones. I made the mistake referring to one of our alters as "the mean/rude one". Even though we had our differences, now we are friends. It is all about communication.
I could talk about this for ages, but I won't, don't worry :) . If you want some good advice packed in a video, then look up this video:
It had helped us a LOT. Generally videos from DissociaDID are very educational. Other DID YouTubers are amazing as well! There is so much on YouTube... And that is great! \^_^/
I hope my answer wasn't too all over the place and you could actually get something from it hehe :)
Have a nice day šø
It seems like everyone is freaking out about being in quarantine and dieing from boredom without social interactions.
Meanwhile our system complaints about still having too much social interactions, because of online school.
Although, OCD really sucks, but you can't get infected if you just don't go outside!
Like...ever...
...haha...
I haven't been outside in days.
Honestly, not keen on changing that.
ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Is everyone doing okay with this Corona situation going on? As someone with OCD it is pretty hard, but I'd say we're doing pretty okay. Stay safe y'all. ā”
(context: our theater group, we are making characters with mental health issues and someone brings up DID)
Singlet: You know, DID isn't real.
The host of our system: What do you mean?
Singlet: It was just made up by some American writer. It's just stupid.
*switch*
Host: Please don't.
Protector: ...
Singlet: It is so annoying that so many people say they have it but it doesn't even exist lol.
Host: Be nice, please.
Protector: *inhale* aCTUALLY...
the whole system: we are a system and we will help each other and be there for one another <3

Advice for new systems
So. You have DID. What now?
As a newly diagnosed system ourselvesĀ we still have to learn a lot, but I still decided to share some tips that had really helped us. I hope someone will find these helpful as well :).
I think it goes without saying that communication is key. The question is: HOW do I communicate with my alters? Every system is different. Maybe some of your alters have already made themselves known or maybe you had absolutely no idea there could be any alters. In both cases you could try leaving short messages on post-it notes or/and starting a system journal. In our system journal we have an introduction (basics of DID, why we started a system journal and how to communicate with us) and something like a āprofileā of each alter with their system role, age, gender, favourite colour, hobbys and a short āessayā about themselves (more personal information, favourite place in the inner world). This way we get to know each other better, know where we can most likely find another and have something to talk about. In a system journal you can keep your dissociated life more organized. Everyone can say what they did and when they did it, some important dates and suggest temporary or even permanent changes to the body.Ā
After you have got to know your alters a little better I would suggest to plan out what the alters will be responsible for. For example, if you still go to school you can plan out which alter will go to school or, if your switches are really controlled, which alter will study for which subject. Believe me, it isnĀ“t really nice to have studied for an exam and some other alter, who has absolutely no idea what that exam is about, switch out and having to hand in empty papers ^^ā. This can be an extremely hard step and might take some time, but it will be definitely worth it.
Lastly I will give the most important tip. Be patient. This goes for you and your alters. Maybe you aren“t ready to meet them and maybe they aren“t ready to meet you. Learning to live in a system is hard, but definitely not impossible. There are so many people with DID in the world, the probability that you“ve met someone with DID and didn“t even realize is pretty high. So don“t worry and don“t rush. Everything will be okay :) .
Please, if you have any other tips let us know. We are always happy to hear from you. ā„ļø
Things I wish people understood about systems
- If one alter knows about a trauma and another alter doesnāt, do not tell them about the trauma. Ever. Thereās a reason they donāt remember.
- If youāre close with an alter and they suddenly stop fronting for a while, understand that itās likely not your fault. Even if they want to front, sometimes they just canāt.
- If you hurt a little in any way at all, expect a protector to come and promptly get angry. They canāt help it, itās their job.
- LITTLES ARE CHILDREN
- If you wouldnāt do/say something to an actual child donāt do it to a little
- Understand that not all alters will have the same feelings for you
- alters are people not just personalities
āShould I be scared ?ā
This is a question I have (sadly) heard a lot. This question can come from a singlet or someone who was just diagnosed with dissociative identity dissorder.
1. Singlet
People are usually concerned about theĀ āevilā alter. You do not need to worry. You have to think of a system like a group of regular people, because these alters really are just a bunch of people in one body. Yes, there can be non-human/āfictiveā alters, that does not mean that they arenĀ“t real or donĀ“t deserve your respect. Yes, some protectors/persecutors may seem agressive or violent, but in reality, they are just trying to protect the system. In reality, alters are more likely to become the victim than make you the victim. You definitely donĀ“t need to be scared of us.
2.Ā āNewā system
I have to admit, D.I.D. can seem really scary. It can be hard to get used to sharing a body with others. But when you think about it, you had to live with D.I.D. for awhile. You might just realise all those symptoms you had previously ignored or just didn“t pay attention to. Try to get to know your system. They are a part of you and you are a part of them. This will take some time but please be patient. Maybe they aren“t ready yet or they might be scared. I am still getting to know my system and it has been difficult and still is. Maybe start a System Journal or leave short messages on post-it notes. Welcome everyone and hate none. Treat them like a friend and give them the time they need. Of course, the same goes for you. Do not rush. Take your time. Stay safe.
We hope this helped someone. Please correct me if I said anything you donĀ“t agree with (and my grammar, IĀ“m not a native speaker ^^ā). If you have anythin to add, let us please know.Ā
Important things to know about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
- It is not schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder.
- It is the result of severe childhood trauma.
- The identities of someone with DID are called different things. Alters, parts and others to name a few.
- There can be as few as 2 alters or into the hundreds with the average number being in the teens.
- Alters are not hallucinations or characters and ignoring them or telling the person to āsnap out of itā will not make them go away.
- Although for some with DID the goal of treatment is to integrate alters into one whole identity many with DID feel this is not the right path for them and rather work on cooperation between alters to live as a team. Both of these are acceptable forms of recovery and it is up to the person with DID what path they want to take.
- DID is found in 1-3% of the population (possibly even more) making it more common than schizophrenia and not as extremely rare as many people believe.
- People with DID (or any mental illness) are statistically no more likely to commit any type of crime, violent or not. They are however more likely to be the victim of a crime.
- The āevil alterā trope seen in fiction is not accurate and alters that hold trauma or anger are much more likely to hurt themselves than anyone else.
- Most people with DID donāt have to live their lives in inpatient facilities and can still live good lives despite experiencing different types of struggles than people without DID.
Hello and welcome :)
We are the Sea System!
Our goal with this blog is to end the stigma surrounding D.I.D. and maybe get in contact with other systems. It had helped us a lot to see other systems on the internet, so we hope we will help someone as well :)
We have made some research about our diagnoses. Feel free to ask us anything. ^^
