the fukuharas had always been old money rich, owning majority of the island’s food businesses. cafes, restaurants, food trucks, you name it. but none has been more successful than under the sea, one of the most popular seafood restaurant, situated near the docks. and it was no question that the fukuhara daughters would take over the business one day.
ariel was raised in a very loving family environment. she never had to envy her sisters, though the same cannot be said for her sisters, who always believed that triton and athena dotted on her more as the youngest. her mother, especially, took great care to teach ariel every little thing she knew: cooking, baking, painting, playing the piano, dancing, swimming, singing. ariel especially loved the last one, and constantly begged her mother to give her voice lessons.
however, like her older sisters, she at first followed the tradition of going to culinary school or taking a course in business in order to help out at the restaurant or one of the fukuhara food businesses. she liked it well enough, but she didn’t love it. not in the way she loved music. it was several years of stagnancy of simply following what her sisters did before her. but eventually, ariel had given up on the family business when her mother passed away three years ago in a kitchen fire, trying to save ariel from inside the family’s famous restaurant. music had become her outlet for grief, and she used it it as a stepping stone to pursue a career in the music industry.
a year later, she fell in love with a music producer months after he recruited her into his small record label. but exactly a year later, ariel swore off singing and music, quickly ending her very short singing career, when she parted on harsh terms with said music producer after she had discovered he was actually married.
ariel turned back to business afterwards, opening her very own bakery and sweets shop near the docks, though furthest from under the sea (practically opposite ends). grief and a broken heart should have made her cold and unfeeling. but it has moreover strengthened her need to do good by her mother’s memory, to be kind, bright, and warm despite everything she’s been through.

ariel is very multitalented and tries to learn a brand new hobby every two months; a silent nod to her unconscious curiosity for all human things.
she is deathly allergic to crab and crab alone.
her bakery, sweet escapes, is decorated with odd little knick knacks that are awfully similar to the human things once discovered in ariel’s trove in her past life. she also keeps a cute little aquarium near the bakery’s entrance, and has named all fifty of the little fishes she has displayed in it.
tension is still extremely fraught between ariel and her older sisters, as most of them still blames her for losing their mother.

friends - ariel is extremely sociable, very chatty, and outgoing. whenever she isn’t helping out in the kitchen back then, she’s out playing hostess to customers at her family’s restaurant, and even at her own bakery. anything under casual friends, best friends, acquaintances, and such can fall under here.
sweet escapes staff - she is a baker in her own bakery, but she’d love a lot of help! ariel does have some trust issues though since her past fling, so her staff would probably be those she trusts deeply/family friends/close friends.
daughters of triton - the rest of ariel’s sisters!! give me family ~tension~ because lowkey some of them do want ariel’s head on a pike for what happened to their mom. but also give me some of them maybe not super hating her sajhakg
past flings/relationships - she really hasn’t fallen as badly as she did with that (1) music producer, but it’s not to say ariel isn’t an attentive partner. she’s very sweet, loves fiercely, and loves listening to her partner talk for hours on end (new knowledge is always fun!). more often, her relationships end because her father doesn’t “approve” most of them and scares half of them away akjdhagsd
