178 years ago on the 22 may 1848 slavery was officially abolished in the French Caribbean island, Martinique 🇲🇶

So today i would like to say 5 fun facts about my beautiful island and share my love for it

#1 In Martinique the Martinicans or as we say in French Les Martiniquais (👨🏾) and les Martiniquaise (👩🏾‍🦱) speak two languages French and Creole

#2 in the French Caribbean Martinique is known as “l’île aux fleure”, the island of flowers, the most popular flower there is the Hibiscus flower

#3 The Carnival, it was a celebration that our ancestors would practice back then and that we still practice till this day every February

#4 The Island is said to be shaped like a woman holding her baby

#5 Madras, the madras is a traditional piece that we wear in our cultural dresses/outfits

It comes in different colors but in the same pattern
