Neil’s fingers shook so badly it was almost impossible to get the straps of his helmet undone, but finally he managed to throw his helmet off to one side. He blinked sweat out of his eyes and looked up at the scoreboard. Ten-nine, Foxes’ favor— Kevin had scored in the last two seconds of the game.

The Renee studying him wasn’t the Foxes’ redeemed optimist. Her sweet smile was gone and the too-blank look on her face r e m i n d e d Neil of Andrew.

natalie shields. she's 15 when she's approached by the hounds ---- nameless, faceless, just another foster kid lost in detroit. she's the ideal candidate, the paradigm of innocence; all meek & mild, raised to be seen & not heard. they tell her it's a h o m e , they're a family & the hounds always take care of family. perhaps she trusts too easily, perhaps she was just that desperate to be wanted.

they mold her into a WEAPON. ( natalie did rhyme with lethality ! ) knives for hands, pistol for a mouth --- she’s their g i f t, bundled in a pretty little package. they think she’ll just keep giving so they take & take & take with calloused hands & pointed teeth & eyes that render her complacent.

she’s seventeen when she discovers the truth. not only were the detroit bloodhounds one of the most notorious gangs of the midwest, they were vampires ! she laughs at the very prospect. ( what was this ? buffy the vampire slayer ? ) it’s her incredulousness that warrants her death sentence.

they wanted her to be unstoppable ; immortality was the key.

but no one ever stopped to ask what natalie wanted.

she stays for a year, honing her new abilities. the anniversary of her so-called death comes quickly --- she strikes that night. it’s poetic justice, she supposed, to tear her creator apart with the knives he destroyed her with.

from then on, she was RENEE WALKER. she cut natalie shields down in detroit and left her to bleed out.

five years later, she’s got a name, a face, she is both seen & heard but, more importantly, she’s got redemption on her lips and a c r o s s around her neck. ( salvation for the damned --- a laughable juxtaposition, she knows. )

                     renee isn’t sure how far her faith will fly in a town like mystic falls but it’s worth a shot.

( for the purpose of this verse --- most interactions will take place in seasons 1-4 as it is easier to insert renee into the timeline ! however, i’m open to all seasons. )
