I think what makes a lot of people confused is that asexuality is a spectrum and doesn't necessarily mean the complete absence of sexual attraction. And there are many reasons why an asexual might want to partake in sex, such as having a romantic partner that is interested in it, experimenting with their sexuality to see what feels right for them, being curious about certain things and experiences, etc...

There are also asexuals who do feel sexual attraction, but only after they have formed a strong emotional and personal connection with another person. I'm putting this here as well even though it's a bit unrelated because I've also seen people get confused with this, but asexuals can also engage in/like sexual media and content because it doesn't involve them in actual sexual acts. I've seen it be compared to liking horror novels and such which I think is really funny. Someone can like reading horrific stuff but that doesn't necessarily mean they want it happening to them.

I hope maybe this helped explain certain things better, I tried to keep this short and not write a novel lol. There's a lot more stuff that ties into this. It's also perfectly okay if you or other people still don't understand. It's only a problem if someone tries to invalidate other people's experiences because of it. Also sorry if this explanation is unwanted, It's something I have personal experience in since I'm aroace so I wanted to throw something out there lol.

I've always found asexuality really interesting. The way you describe it sounds like sex drive vs sex passenger. Sexual attraction can be there but it's not contributing or directing decisions on it's own? or you don't want to even be in the car at all? very cool stuff

Respectfully I think, and I know my opinion isn't important but I've chewed on this for days, that people just use ace as a weird way of saying they don't feel like fucking and there making it way bigger than it is.

Really genuinely ace people I've known don't even masturbate, they truly have 0 interest in the stuff and refuse inclusion on it period point blank.

But what do I know, I'm just a 24 year old woman who's never had sex ever.

I think a better label is a low sex driven person, not ace which in nature means no sex period full stop.

I don't want to talk out of my lane too much since I am not asexual but I'm in the queer rainbow and every label have these sorts of in group convos about where does it end and where does it begin and yadda yadda like "are you really a lesbian if you've ever had sex with men but now are exclusively with women?" "Are you really trans if you haven't undergone any/a certain amount of medical transition," etc.

Nature hates being in a boxes and humans love to try and it never ends up cut and dry long story short. In the end I've settled on labels are just jumping off point shorthand to better get to know someone. You identify as asexual but aren't repulsed by sex and want to meet a need in your partner and that isn't harmful for you? cool nice to meet ya yaddah yaddah lol. but I also don't know shit about shit ¯_(ツ)_/¯
