Reasons why sports should be encouraged
There are tons of reasons why we should encourage everyone to be physically active and engage in sports. Aside from the fact this kind of habit is really healthy for our bodies, it also helps we establish good mood as well. Sports education should be encouraged in such a young age. We should encourage our children to participate in sports education the same way we encouraged them to excel academically because they will also acquire applied learning that is not given by academic subjects all the time. Sports college nowadays like SEDA is a great pathway to develop not only your child's academic proficiency but even used all the applied learning for their future career.
In today's generation, a lot of people, particularly children doesn't have an active lifestyle like playing outside with the neighbours, that's why at a young age, they are already having illnesses like diabetes and become obese since they are largely inactive and unhealthy due to the sedentary lifestyles. Encouraging to participate in sports education will help them have a healthy lifestyle. Regular participation in sports education especially from sports college helps to control or reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, hypertension and osteoporosis and sports also helps improve metabolism. As for our children, being active in sports education will lead them to be a physically active and emotionally balanced adults in the long run.
In life, there's always a competition, especially at work. As an adult, you always have to take extra effort in what you do in order to excel, however, there's always a winning moment and of course, the losing moment. This is also the same in sports. Sports education from sports college like SEDA teach everyone not only applied to learn but also teach us to learn how to accept defeat graciously. Sports education, in nature, always have a winner and also a loser, and the experience of being one or the other is a valuable one. In sports, it’s important to realize that losing is nothing to be ashamed of and this teaches us to be more resilient not only in sports and our children will also apply this attitude once they are already part of the professional work.
We also have to consider the fact that sports education is an important part of the holistic approach in education and also a strong tool that can contribute significantly to the development and learning progress of our children. Sports college like SEDA aims to bring out the best in every student through our applied learning approach and also by focussing on their passion. Also, sports education in SEDA provides an individual approach for each student through our applied learning and also learning directly from the industry experts.

Why Study a Diploma of Sport Development and Become a Women’s Cricket Coach?
Cricket has long been thought a men’s game, but the reality is very different! Here are some interesting facts about this sport from SEDA vocational training specialists – and some information on how to become a coach through the cricket course we offer as part of our Diploma of Sport Development.
Women’s cricket dates back to 1745, according to a report in a newspaper called The Reading Mercury on a match between village teams from Bramley and Hambledon in the United Kingdom.
The first Women’s Cricket World Cup took place in 1973 in England, ending in a showdown between England and Australia where the English team took home the prize. This was two years before the initiation of the men’s World Cup!
Australia leads the world in WCWC victories, holding an incredible 7 out of 10 cups – again, two more than the men’s team!
When we think of the first player to reach 200 in an ODI, you might think of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar – but you’d be wrong. The record is held by Australia’s Belinda Clark, who scored an unbeaten 229 of 145 balls.
Australia’s Betty Wilson holds a record first too, having picked up 10 wickets and scored a century in a match, two years before Alan Davidson achieved the record.
And the biggest run totals? It’s women again – although this time it’s held by the New Zealand team, with an incredible 455 for the loss of 5 wickets in a 1997 match against Pakistan. This happened 9 years before the men’s record achievement.
Despite these accolades and exceptional performances, women’s cricket in Australia and around the world doesn’t get the attention it deserves. This means that talented players miss out on the funding, training resources, winnings and even the salaries that men’s teams receive. It means that young girls don’t get the encouragement, support and resources to develop themselves into the next generation’s top talent. It also means that fans miss out on a sport that is clearly delivering an exciting and exceptional performance.
As a women’s cricket coach with the SEDA vocational training Diploma of Sport Development qualification, you can play a central role in changing all this, from introducing girls to the sport at a young age through community or foundational coaching programs, to supplying players with the best possible training programs and support. Coaches also play a vital role in motivating top athletes to realise their full potential – developing the stars that bring in the crowds and inspire others to follow their footsteps.
SEDA vocational training focuses on the sport and recreation industry, offering an industry-led cricket course in partnership with Cricket Australia and top local teams. This ensures that students of our Diploma of Sport Development cricket course are uniquely equipped with the real world skills, work experience and professional connections to follow their dream career.

According to a study conducted in 2009, there are 1,500 emergency room visits due to equipment related matter in gyms, while 224 injuries have been counted due to weight machines and free weights. Injuries related to broken ankles, fractured arms, fractured legs and also fingertip amputation are the common gym equipment incident. These situations can be avoided if you have a certified personal trainer with you that can provide all the transferrable skills you need that will help you not only achieve your fitness goals but even reduce the risks of injuries.
Another common injury that most athletes and runners experience is shin splints, which is the pain that you feel from the inner edge of your shinbone or tibia. This type of injury is caused by over stressing your muscles. In order to prevent it, you may need to wear proper shoes that are in good condition, and don't increase the intensity of your workout routine or AFL training straightaway, but instead increase it in a gradually. Warming up is also essential before you start, whether it’s a light workout or intense workout since this ensures the blood is moving and also it prepares your lower leg muscles.
Another common injury is the wrist strain. Our wrist is made up of nerves and is a complex joint in our body. Wrist strain is caused by carrying heavy weights or working out with many push-ups. You may not know that too many barbell curls with a straight bar and other exercises that require notable shoulder movement can add unwanted stress in our wrist area. Survive Cardiac Arrest through CPR
According to studies, almost 600,000 people suffered cardiac arrest every year, and it’s sad to say it's killing these people once they have an attack. However, this number of deaths can be managed if more people took a CPR course, either as a transferrable skill or use it in a career. SEDA Group now provides CPR courses as part of their curriculum.
According to studies, about 75% to 80% of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrest happen at home, which is the main reason why most of these cardiac arrest cases result in death. Once a person is trained or took CPR courses at the SEDA Group, this can mean the difference between life and the death for our loved ones.
Aside from saving precious lives, taking CPR courses can also help you gain self-confidence since you'll now be prepared in the event that someone suffers from cardiac arrest, or other emergency situations. As emergency situations always need immediate actions like providing CPR to the victim while waiting for the arrival of the ambulance. CPR also decreases the risk of brain damage or death during a cardiac arrest. It is also good to note that the higher the number of people who took CPR courses, the better, as this is a transferrable skill.
During cardiac arrest, every second is considered deadly, so it is extremely important to perform CPR to an unconscious patient. If there are numbers of individuals around who know CPR, you could take turns by giving chest compressions and rescue breaths as well. You know you're on the right path with SEDA Group, since as well as providing transferrable skills, we are also committed to achieving meaningful changes that can lead to big life success for each of our students.
At the SEDA Group, we set the bar high, because we believe and understand every industry's demands and expectations through the transferrable skills we provide. A person who takes CPR courses, and knows how to use it well, can create a safer environment for everyone, especially in the workplace. This can also be an impressive factor for employers, especially for people who are in the medical field or will further study and take nursing.
CPR courses will not just benefit you and your family, but the entire community because this allows us to know about the proper procedure for assisting victims of heart attack patients and at the same time know about the handling well an emergency situation.

Why is playing tennis good for you?
Due to our everyday errands, personal activities or work, most of the time we are now spending more time sitting in front of your computers than being physically inactive. A high percentage physical inactivity will not only lead to obesity but also to different chronic diseases. One good sport to indulge in is taking a tennis course or by simply playing it as part of your leisure time. But if you're into tennis for your sports career, it is a good idea to take a tennis course at sports schools like SEDA. At SEDA, aside from taking tennis course because you are passionate about this sport, we also provide transferrable skills that is useful not only for your sports career and also for other professions as well.
One of the good health benefits of playing tennis is good as a full body workout. Your body moves from your head to toe. Your upper body will move whenever there's a need for you to hit the tennis ball, including your arms, shoulders and upper back. While your lower extremities will move whenever you need to run to reach the ball, jump and crouch, so all your muscles will move to play tennis.
Since almost all your body parts needs to move, you'll burn unwanted fat and calories at the same time. The act of running, swinging, reaching and pivoting will really shake those sleepy nerves you have from sitting for a long period of time. Playing other sports like weight lifting, golfing, dancing and volleyball is good, but tennis burns more calories and fat among those sports mentioned.
Playing or taking a tennis course is also a good brain boosting exercise or activity. Tennis courses can improve your critical thinking, mental alertness and tactical thinking through making brain connections. These skills are considered transferrable skills that you can not only use in your sports career, but also in other professions as well. Engaging in tennis also helps our body regulates serotonin, which is a brain chemical that is linked to functions such as sleep cycle, appetite and our emotional state.

First Aid Procedures to treat Sports Injuries
When you play sports like football or basketball, you’re not just aiming to win – it’s also about reducing the possibility for injury. A player should always be careful when playing sports, especially contact sports. However, accidents can happen despite everyone’s best intentions, but one thing we can control is how we respond after the injury happened. At sports school, like SEDA Australia, it's not all the sports techniques are being catered. We also offer applied education and transferrable skills that will be beneficial not only for students who want to push through in sports industry but all to all other profession.
But what should we really do when someone has been injured or it is you? Be wary of the early signs of injury, when you feel a sudden pain, stop and take some rest. Ignoring it will just cause more damage to your body as you go on with the game. Resting an injured part of your body like your legs or arms will also help in the healing process unlike when you play the game in pain, it will just make things worse. Sports schools like SEDA Australia have the facilities to help you through the injury and they also provide applied education and transferrable skills necessary for these kinds of situations.
You also need to be careful with acute injuries like cuts and abrasions, fractures and concussion. Good thing is that when a person suffered an acute injury, it is easy to determine what caused it. Ruling out the cause of the injury is really essential for making a quick treatment decision. Sports schools like SEDA Australia may have some cases of injuries, but it's good that all of the students are well aware of how to handle these situations because of the applied education and transferrable skills provided. In this way, the person injured is being addressed right away.
Have you also heard treating the injury with RICE? It stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. When some is injured in a sports school like SEDA Australia or an official game, resting is really advice whenever someone felt sudden jolt of pain. This allows the injured tissues and muscles time to heal and can also help the athlete to get in the game after few minutes of rest if ever the injury is not that serious and the pain already subsided. Putting ice or cold therapy is also helpful particularly for acute injuries. The coldness of the ice helps reduce the swelling and the pain and it also causes the blood vessel to narrow and limits the internal bleeding in the injured spot. Compressing the injured part of your body is also good as a first aid and somehow the next most important aid. When you compress the injured part of your body or a certain player or athlete with an elastic bandage for example, it helps keep minimize the swelling. It is also helpful to apply ice to the injured area while compressing it with the bandage. Another thing to note is elevation. When an injured area is elevated, it reduces the blood flow and the swelling in that particular area.
In sports schools like SEDA Australia, we put so much importance in applied education and transferrable skills aside from sports technical aspects and academics because we are committed in achieving meaningful changes of our students that will lead them to big life of success. We aim to change people's lives through individual learning and also to develop real skills to prepare all of our students for a successful future.
Difference between University Education and Vocational Education
There's a saying that education is a treasure that no one can steal from you. Indeed, it's true. Having a good and quality education really opens a lot of doors of opportunities in your chosen career, whether it is a sports career or another profession. Though some are still a bit confused between university education and vocational training, there is an increasing interest in expanded vocational training as a way to get youth quickly and effectively into the labour market by giving them access to and education in occupation-specific and transferrable skills.
With the significant transformation of transferrable skills and labor markets and other profession including sports career over the years including such factors as globalisation, technological change, altered training programmes and reforms of social security systems, it is important to revisit the potential efficacy of expanding vocational training in today’s economic environment. However, it is also easy for a person to find a job after finishing a university degree. You can also benefit in areas such as salary and also personal development. A lot people, particularly Australians, are fortunate to have access to a range of further education options after they graduate from secondary school. The country is known internationally for its world class universities and vocational training system. Two of the most popular options are Vocational Education and Training or also known as VET and University.
Though both of the educational systems are great for your child's future, each system has its own focus, style of learning and transferrable skills and also unique strengths to offer, which can make choosing the right training option for you a challenge. As we all know, the job market is extremely competitive and skilled employees are high in demand, because of this, degrees are required for a wide range of careers such as Medicine, Education, Engineering, Accounting and Law. A university education will help your child succeed in today's workforce and establish an enjoyable career of their choice.
University generally offers an academic education experience. Academic education is normally defined as education with learning as its primary purpose. An academic education explores the theoretical and hypothetical, but is not necessarily practical, realistic or directly useful. Undergraduate students normally study for 3-4 years full time to earn their first Bachelor’s Degree. They can then continue on at university and do postgraduate, master’s degrees and doctorates.
Vocational training on the other hand has a distinctly different educational focus. Vocational training is aimed at delivering practical, job specific skills. That means if you pursue a vocational training, your courses should teach you the specific knowledge and skills you need to know to perform a particular job role. One of the most motivating reasons for taking vocational training during high school is the ability to shorten a student's years at university. Vocational training is also typically quite short compared to university degrees and they can even start working into the profession of their choice like having sports career. A vocational programme can take anywhere from a few hours up to a couple of years full time study. Certificates often take 3-12 months full time to complete. Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas often run for one to two years full time. Apprenticeships and traineeships can take longer – 3 to 5 years in some cases. While not every school offers the option, many vocational schools like SEDA open their entry-level classes to high school students who have demonstrated a good aptitude for college-style learning which is a clear career pathway for them particularly in sports careers. Since the classes taken are at the college level including transferrable skills, these programs give high school students a chance to get a head-start on their college education.
From Future Ready to Life Ready
It’s clear that educators see value in life ready learning and transferrable skills. In fact, nearly every district and industry partner coins their own phrase for these essential skills. We’ve called them by different names and heard them called Future Ready Skills, soft skills, 21st century skills, Key Competencies, and more. Transferrable skills and life ready learning in SEDA Australia offer a hands on approach to learning which will help to kickstart your career into your chosen industry. SEDA specialises in sporting diplomas but we also place a strong focus on life ready learning. With us, you’ll learn not only the skills needed to succeed but also to thrive.
What skills do students need to be considered “life ready?” For some highschool graduates, they may sound familiar: “critical and creative thinkers, excellent communicators and collaborative and civic-minded citizens.” So what steps can states take to give their students opportunities for deeper learning? The label “soft skills” makes these transferrable skills seem like “nice-to-haves” instead of the essential survival skills for today’s context. This digest features stories of deeper learning in SEDA Australia, the importance of collaboration in personalized life ready learning and transferrable skills, some key lessons in competency-based education.
In SEDA Australia, we provide advance coaching wherein in you'll learn to plan, implement and evaluate coaching sessions, including the use of sport psychology techniques and sports nutrition knowledge. Effectively utilize the assistance of support personnel to get the best out of your athlete. We also develop a MyPLAN and professional portfolio and life ready learning to kickstart your career. You'll receive expert career pathway advice, gain practical placement opportunities, acquire transferrable skills employers love and form valuable industry connections.
Today's economy requires graduates who are critical and creative thinkers, excellent communicators and collaborative and civic-minded citizens. Developing work-based learning programs and ensuring students receive exposure to career paths during high school were just some of the steps in education reform to provide more deeper learning opportunities for all students.
When learning is personalized to individual students’ needs, it can run the risk of emphasizing individual learning over collaboration with other students. By equating personalize learning with individual learning, the field could be running the risk of adopting a one-size-fits-all approach to personalization that does not meet the needs of each individual learner for social support, exchange and feedback from peers. Opportunities for collaboration with other students is an important part of student learning. In SEDA Australia, students who complete programmes have the opportunity for direct articulation into a range of universities following successful completion of this qualification.
Benefits of attaining SEDA Certificates
There’s a new credentialing player in town, and it’s giving degree programs a run for their money. In recent years, certificates have become increasingly popular, as students have begun skills learning and transferable skills, they are now concentrating more on what skills are needed in the workforce. Employers, in turn, are placing more emphasis on specialized skills than traditionally valued credentials like degrees. For higher ed institutions, certificates offer more than new revenue streams. They offer the chance to meet specific market needs and become leaders in the industry. In SEDA group, we connect with leading sport, recreation and community organisations in Australia, giving students unique opportunities and experiences that meet the needs of the modern day workplace.
If you look at the relationship between income and education, there’s almost a perfect correlation. But over the last 20 years, most of the income growth that’s gone to people with degrees has gone to people with higher degrees. My hunch is that as that continues, certificates will play a role in helping people move up the income ladder through advanced education—just not in programs that are quite as long or quite as expensive as they had been. SEDA group certificates can help create a lifelong learners. Today’s learners no longer obtain a four-year degree, get a job, and then say goodbye to the classroom forever. As the workforce expects an increasingly diverse and changing set of transferable skills, students are going back to school to upgrade their credentials and take other skills learning. There is tremendous potential for institutions to attract certificate students (who may enroll with or without a previous degree) back time and time again. By basing programming around what students actually need, institutions can transform certificate students to lifelong learners.
As a research say, SEDA group certificate is a great program for high school graduates in the middle to below-middle of the skills learning. These are people that can tremendously benefit from this, especially if they get a job in-field, like be part of sports industry or other profession. And they can potentially turn this success that they’d had in the certificate program to then getting a degree. A third of the people who get a certificate will go on to get a two- or four-year degree. Some people will get a certificate after they get a two- or four-year degree, so it’s flexible in that regard.
Higher education has often been criticized for failing to produce graduates with tangible, workforce-ready transferable skill set. Instead of focusing on what faculty want to teach, institutions should look at what kind of skills learning and programming delivers the best return on investment possible for students looking to enter the workforce. Certificates help students gear up for employment upon graduation, aligning their skills with what employers actually want. SEDA group programmes have been identified as important to adult learners who are focused on workforce development and are concentrated in programs designed to prepare adult learners for specific workforce roles. Upon graduating from SEDA group, you will have a detailed understanding of the skills and knowledge required to be successful in either further study or the workforce. The practical experiences and transferable skills provided allow you to understand the type of roles in the sport and recreation industry and the attributes that employers seek.
