I'm queer so I will say this once.
Otome is a cis woman romancing cis men. This is by design. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SELF INSERT ONTO THE HEROINE. The heroine IS by the definition of being the MAIN character, is a character. I am not a woman. I am not even attracted to MEN. Otome are STORIES and if you can't find something worth while in a Cis woman's story because you CAN'T relate to cis women, you are fundamentally NOT understanding how to engage with any type of fiction. This is a media literacy issue.
Not all characters have to be relatable to you. You HAVE to be able to engage with stories that have NOTHING to do with you.
Because it IS that deep. When you hear men say "well MY rights aren't getting trampled on, so why should I care?" or WLW women saying to straight women "well you're dating the gender that abuses you so why should we care?"
When you refuse to engage with stories because the main character can't be YOU, you refuse to engage your empathy for people who aren't you. It is a fundamentally violent ideology. It is conservatism.
And this is ESPECIALLY true if you NEED Otome and other women spaces to be inclusive but you refuse to force male spaces to cater to you. Because you KNOW men will gate keep. So you pick the other one knowing you wont recieve backlash.
Its bullshit. You know its bullshit.
