ā thereās few differences between man-made machines and monsters like this. the illusions this world creates, there is nothing natural about them. iron might be more truthful than the bone and blood of these creatures.Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Uh huh.... Right, ā what is this guy going on about?
Ā Ā Ā ā Regardless if you think theyāre illusions or not... They can still hurt and potentially kill you. So, you know... Itās always good to be cautious, even if it ends up being a hologram or something, ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Iāve been watching a lot of the animals here from afar and... ā
Ā Ā Ā ā Iām surprised a lot of them are the size of the bigger machines back where Iām from... Some are even bigger! I wonder where they all came from...? ā
hopeledĀ·:
Ā Ā ā Itās a maze ran by fairiesā¦I donāt know if it has walls, but wouldnāt the fairies stop you from, yāknow. Cheating?ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Well, I mean... ā
Ā Ā Ā ā Isnāt that only if you get caught? ā
rooksassassinĀ·:
Call it intuition ( yāknow, being an assassin and all ), but something told him he was being watched.
It started when he was walking down the streets of the ward he was in. At first, he thought it was just people staring at him because, letās face it, his getup isnāt the usual wardrobe choice that people would wear, but as Jacob continued onward, he realized the eyes he felt were coming from somewhere else. Somewhere⦠above? Another assassin who had spotted him, perhaps?
Thatās what he thought, until someone started throwing small pebbles at him! Not enough to hurt, mind you, but still enough to catch his attention. He allowed it to continue⦠Until finally one pebble was thrown to make him sigh out and finally scale the building where it was coming from.
Ā Ā Ā āYāknow the old saying.. Throw a pebble at me once, shame Ā Ā Ā on me. Throw a second pebble at me, shame on you. Yes, Ā Ā Ā thatās exactly the saying, you donāt need to fact checkāā
And when he finally got on top of the building, Jacob almost fell right off of it once he saw who the mastermind behind the pebble throwing was.
Ā Ā Ā ā⦠Allie?ā
Ā Ā Ā ā AS the brunet looks at her with surprise and a wide-eyed look, Aloy looks to him with familiarity... With fondness. While it seems like she hadnāt been gone for a while, it also feels as if she hasnāt seen Jacob in what feels like ages... And thus, she can only look at the assassin with the utmost affection reflected within her verdant hues, hands now folding together in front of her frame.
Ā Ā Ā ā I was wondering when youād climb up here, ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ... I missed you. ā
Ā Ā ā I bet the crystal flower is really prettyā¦.ā a click of the tongue.Ā ā Too bad you have to do the maze in pairs.Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā What kind of maze is it? I mean, if thereās walls you can just climb up them and jump from ledge to ledge until you get to the middle... ā
faepactĀ·:
Ā Ā Ā Ā itās not difficult to catch the suspicion.Ā of course, this subject is the only one that allows Manako to lose her calm.Ā with a soothing smile she wears when treating the children who came to the Reachās clinic, she tries her best to keep the conversation moving away.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Hmm, I didnāt craft my poncho myself, but a nice tailor where I worked did so for me.Ā I wish I was that talented. āĀ she finishes her pondering and folds her hands together happily.Ā Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Thatās impressive, though!Ā Is Rost your friend? ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Really? You can learn! Itās really easy, ā Aloy is quick to tell the stranger, smiling all the while. Itās nice, she thinks, to be able to speak with others for once; for others to not look at her with scorn or try to hit her with rocks.
Ā Ā Ā ā And Rost is... Well, ā
Ā Ā Ā ā He looks after me, ever since I was a baby. Iām surprised I havenāt seen him around yet, though, ā
faepactĀ·:
Ā Ā Ā Ā ā M-my ⦠horns? ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā instantly, the Xaelaās hands fly to the sides of her head.Ā she digs her fingers under her hair above her horns, then pulls down her blue locks to cover those monstrosities.Ā her cheeks beam beet-red the entire time.Ā and once the horns are covered, she frantically checks her body with her hands to make sure her scales are covered and her tail is tucked away in her pants.Ā uncomfortable, but necessary.Ā she is a hyur:Ā human.Ā she has to be.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Sorry, little one, āĀ Manakoās voice is soft,Ā Ā ā I donāt know what youāre on about. āĀ please work.Ā Ā ā B-but I can ask the same about your clothing, too.Ā Did you make it? ā
Ā Ā Ā ā QUIRKING a brow, Aloy tilts her head curiously as the stranger struggles to cover her so calledĀ āhornsā. If she didnāt want them to be seen, why doesnāt she just take them off? Maybe... She canāt? But why would that be...?
Ā Ā Ā ā Uhhh, ā
Ā Ā Ā ā Okay, ā sheās suspiciousĀ and itās plain to see from her expression... But for now, the little girl lets it go... With the keyword beingĀ āfor nowā.
Ā Ā Ā ā And I did! Well... Rost helped me but I still made everything I wear! Is it the same for you, too? ā
@faepactā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Woooow! How did you make those? They look like antlers!! Did you get them from hunting? ā the youth points at the strangerās horns, looking on with amazement. While itās not odd for people within The Embrace to adorn their garments with various animal hides and the like... Never before has Aloy seen an animal that would possess such horns for the other girl to take. Normally sheād use her Focus to try and figure out what it is, but...
Ā Ā Ā Somehow, it only seems like her Focus works about five times a day... Which is quickly used up by how often Aloy scans everything around her.
cutwarmthĀ·:
Oh ā oh, no. She was a really young girl, wasnāt she? Rui must have practically knocked her off her feet, and he definitely looked more than a little bit sheepish about that revelation. He really hadnāt meant to stumble back into anyone at all, but the fact that it was such a young girlā¦
āA-ahāā
For as shaky as his legs felt, Rui really didnāt feel like it was fair for him to keep sitting at her feet. He stumbled a bit but managed to push himself forward and up, which caused a terrible wave of coughs to rise in his chest.
āI should be alright, yes⦠I donāt really think Iād be difficult to carry, but itās probably better if you donāt tryā¦ā
Ignore the fact that he had to wobble to the side a little bit to lean against the nearest building to try and keep himself standing for the time being. Rui looked absolutely exhausted already, but at least he wasnāt coughing for the time being. And⦠this was another child, right? She was even younger than he was, so while it wasnāt likely she understood any of this any better than he didā¦
āCan I ask something?ā
āHave⦠you found anyone that you know, here? Um⦠like your parents, or anything.ā Maybe it was overstepping his boundaries a little bit, but he reallyĀ hoped she might have an answer. Heād had enough of feeling so lost and concerned already.
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Alright... But if you get tired let me know! ā the redhead is quick to reassure the stranger despite his worries, puffing out her chest rather proudly. Though he doesnāt seem to be part of the Nora... Well, heās still someone that isnāt shunned like she is and thus, Aloy tries to make a point of proving herself to him.Ā
Ā Ā Ā ā Anyone I know? Well, Rost is usually always making me follow him around... But I havenāt seen him here, ā the girl begins her answers, looking up in thought before offering a gasp.
Ā Ā Ā ā Thereās parents here? Do you think my mother is here? I wonder what she looks like...! ā clearly caught up in the boyās wording and not processing it correctly, Aloy is soon swept up in her thoughts. While she still intends to participate in the Proving... Maybe somehow she could meet her mother in this place instead?
Ā Ā Ā ā We should look! Maybe weāll find yours, too? ā
Ā Ā Ā āĀ ā I wonder where outside of The Embrace this is? Surely it canāt be a part of Motherās Cradle, Heart or anything in that area! ā she sounds rather excited about that, actually.
Ā Ā Ā ā Thereās no Watchers or anything like that around here either... Makes exploring a lot more safe!! ā
The longer he had to stay here, the less Rui liked it. Everything was loud, and he was lonely, and he was tired, and he was ā honestly, kind of scared. He was much more used to a quieter life; to the sounds of children laughing as they played outside, but otherwise just the company of his parents and of books to keep himself occupied.
He wasnāt⦠used to this.
At least, somewhere along the way, Rui had learned that the big things were called carsĀ (mostly through eavesdropping, something else he was used to doing to keep himself occupied), but that didnāt mean he liked them any more than he already had. That was to say⦠not at all. They were too noisy. And he had strange things on him; keys to something, and some kind of⦠thing that beeped at him from time to time and showed messages on the screen but he didnāt know what sort of number combination to put in to get it to⦠to āĀ āunlockā.
It didnāt seem like thatās the lock the keys were for.
And the cars were still noisy, and he ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā one of the carsĀ drove by.
Rui was too close to the road, closer than he should have been, and while he was fine, he was certainly more than a little startled. As distracted as heād been, and as overwhelmed by the noises, he hadnāt realized how close it was until it drove by. He stumbled back, and his legs gave way, and he fell backwards onto the ground with a start.
Right onto someoneās feet.
Rui tried to suppress the fit of coughs that threatened to overtake him just from him being knocked windless for a moment, staring up at them but not budging from his spot on the ground yet. He ā didnāt trust his legs to hold him again.
āS⦠sorry,ā he managed to stutter out after a moment.Ā āI didnāt mean to bother you.ā
Ā Ā Ā ā IT was very startling, to say the least; to suddenly be in a place unlike any place in The Embrace... Or anywhere really in the Sacred Lands. Where exactly is this, the girl wonders? Not only that, but where is Rost? Normally he is always following her around, scolding her left and right, but...
Ā Ā Ā Now heās not here.
Ā Ā Ā Running about and constantly having her verdant hues look to and fro, Aloy meets her new surroundings with an air of excitement. Itās certainly new and perhaps a little scary... Yet at the same time, thereās a certain happiness to be away from her typical life as an outcast. She has noticed that people here... Well, look at her! And it is not a look of disgust but instead, of... Confusion, maybe?
Ā Ā Ā Any look besides the ones of hatred and anger she is used to are more than welcome, she thinks.
Ā Ā Ā Lost in her thoughts, the sudden sound of a horn (or perhaps thatās an alarm? Itās an unfamiliar noise to her) causes the redhead to whip her head around in the direction of the noise. As she does so, a strange contraption zooms off and instead, she is met with the face of a boy, who... Now falls down at her feet.
Ā Ā Ā ā Are you okay? ā comes the girlās inquiry, offering the boy a quirk of her brow now.
Ā Ā Ā ā Can you stand? I can carry you! Iām small but Iām not weak! ā
feroxtigrisā:
āYou should try that weird abandoned city! Yesterday, or whatever itās called! Thereās lots of junk there, plus itās super fun to explore!ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Yeah. Admittedly, thatās where my mind first wandered to... Though honestly, Iād like to be better prepared to even traverse that area. You never know what could happen, after all, ā
letscursefateĀ·:
āThatās mean. I didnāt choose to be this.ā
āAnd itās twice mean when Iām trying to be helpful and honest~ā Oh well, stealing wasnāt that difficult after all.Ā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Uh huh. Right,Ā ā
Ā Ā Ā ā Anyway, Iāve got junkyards to find so, ā
letscursefateĀ·:
āI was once called oracle and high priest. Iām obviously right. As for them, well. One of them is called Zeed, he doesnāt have a nickname because his nameās so dumb so fits him well. The other one is Freckleface II.āĀ
āMaybe you can make use of them. Itās 200 Dust for this piece of wisdomā
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Where Iām from, oracles and priests are usually wrong, ā she is quick to correct him, brows furrowing as he speaks. Why does she always attract this sort of company...?
Ā Ā Ā ā And I wouldnāt even give you one metal shard for that piece ofĀ āwisdomā, ā
letscursefateĀ·:
āSo I know two guys who are just walking junkyards. Does that count?āĀ
Ā Ā Ā ā ā Count towards my search? No, ā
Ā Ā Ā ā It does count towards how I view you or them depending on if your words are true or not, though. ā
