Man it has been weird talking about QL lately because the Calvinism has been jumping out in fandom. Lots of 'deserve' talk and a whole lot of the idea that there are prerequisites to romance. And not in the sense of discussing narrative structure or character development or dramatic effect, all of which are both expected and welcome in a community of people who watch and discuss stories for fun. But the 'I don't like this so it shouldn't exist' has been rampant lately.
The point of stories is to help us all understand the world and each other better, not just to reinforce and entrench our personal beliefs or create moral cul de sacs. Romance stories aren't relationship manuals, they're not best practice or 'how-to' guides, they're not anything but stories about two or more fictional people who you may or may not personally identify with falling for one another and trying to figure out if or how to be together. As a student of humanity I find that mostly fascinating to watch happen in as many permutations as I can get. 'I don't like this' is a perfectly valid reaction, this is literally why fandom invented the term YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary. It's to remind us that we all see and experience the world very differently. But 'I don't like this so it shouldn't exist' is how the fash wins y'all, remember that.
I think about this kind of thing a lot doing a show unpacking romantic stories with three other people, all with varying mileage on romance and storytelling. And we...disagree! And have strong feelings because of personal experiences! Sometimes people even get mad! But while we might question the point of a story, or even drag the ever living fuck out of it because we hate it so much (here's looking at you The Shipper 🤣) in the end we assign these stories their place in our various firmaments and we go out and touch our various literal and figurative patches of grass. To remind ourselves that the world is vast and full of things we like, and when we don't like something we can just say 'well jeez, I didn't like that' and leave it right there. And it works!
What am I saying? Idk exactly. Y'all seem stressed. Go outside.
I think the fact that we had two high profile actors have to take a step back from BL due to mental health issues in the last year alone and total 4 (krist james jimmy and chimon but also saint stepped back to bts and up also went that route before slowly dipping his feet back in) since I’ve gotten into this fandom should be an indicator that company’s need to be doing less not more.
Literally saw a fan complaining yesterday that FIRST KANAPHAN was being unfairly treated because he wasn’t getting enough work 😭😭😭 that man is literally never off my timeline how much more can he even work without dying?
When a company is doing 4 re-runs their teams are likely running on fumes and in a talent/ creator based industry you can’t just scale up endlessly resources are not unlimited. And sorry I took that so goddamn personally but burnout =/= incompetent.
They can’t just hire any fresh grad and expect them to work at the pace that the company needs them to. Even if they have talent they need to be trained and invested in and this has to happen at every level of production. There’s even a show coming out about it right now as we speak. I’m begging people to just open up a map of Thailand and realize just how small a country it is.
I can’t stand twitter because it’s an endless barrage of fans demanding demanding demanding for unreasonable things. Tumblr is my escape from that hustle and grind culture. And somehow we’ve managed to import that here.
I have the ability to mass block if I need to but also does anyone here have the ability to just chill the fuck out for a second. Like we have to be honest with ourselves here: I’m *not* a GMM fangirl you guys are just acting bananas.
For me enjoying an actor or a pairing means wanting what’s best for them and what’s best for them is a healthy work life balance. These actors always give us so much, enjoy what you get and quit being greedy and acting like you actually understand the Thai entertainment industry. The truth is you absolutely don’t.
Writing an oped about how your poor boy is hard done by because they don’t have multiple series a year is silly and out of touch. We saw this with FirstKhao when they didn’t get a show announcement in the first half of the GMMTV event. Every other post I saw was ‘fuck sake, they’re getting forgotten’. Use your brain. They were promoting the hell out of Only Friends, they did a tour for that, they did multiple fan concerts and other commitments. Not to mention LoL.
You’re talking out of your butt when you accuse HUGE pairings like that of getting forgotten.
Especially if we consider that most of these actors still have ordinary side/main jobs, go to uni, write exams or have own projects (and family + friends) they have to manage between acting somehow. Since acting jobs aren't that big of a financial payoff in Thailand. They earn more with sponsor events, shows and getting popularity for their own projects (the amount of actors who have fashion brands and own merch they make and sell themselves).
I really wish these companies would discipline fans and keep them in line better and care more about their talents well being. It's so important for every business to not let your customers trample over you and your employees...
imo companies and actors should be more transparent about some things like the whole work that goes into projects / series / movies (some fans think they can push out a whole series in 2 months.. it take at least 1 year and costs more than what we will ever own in our life time) but also preparation for live shows, fan meetings, dance and singing training, acting workshops and even actors fitness and visuals takes a lot of time and effort.
AND we need more transparency about fanservice vs acting roles vs actors private life. They can all do that for show I don't care, but please separate it more obvious for the people in the back, what the difference is between those three points.
Even the Pit Babes are struggling sometimes with time management and energy. Pavel once mentioned that he has months long full time schedule ahead of him and it's going to be exhausting but he will manage because it's always like that in showbiz, low pressure times vs high pressure times. Pavel is that open since the beginning, and imo that's why his fans are less bitchy and care more about his health (too much sometimes).
Sure one part of the idol business is a perfect image, no visible struggles, always nice and presentable, always here for the fans. Since the point of an idol is to give you a good time and emotional support. But personally I vibe way more with idols who are a bit weird / unique and not 100% perfect. Who are honest about daily struggles and even health issues. Or just about their massive beauty routines or even beauty surgeries etc etc. Idols who are simply more transparent / honest and more authentic true to themselves despite the idol and marketing corset.
I highly recommend for fans to actually listen to your favs interviews and life streams (translations are often on xitter or in video snippets, some actors speak english too in between). Because that is where you actually learn about their schedule and how they are doing, what they feel, want and think. Some even drop interesting production and industry insights (I rec Perth Nakhuns youtube channel for that).

I. Am. Disgusted. SIGNAL BOOST this!! This is unacceptable! We need to remember what pride is and what we stand for.
The gall of these people trying to call the cops on a black trans woman at the Stonewall Inn on the very anniversary of the riot (I'm sure they totally understood the irony of it) and then call her the fascist.
It's beyond parody. This is why I'm sick of Pride being treated as a corporate party rather than a protest and why we need to teach the history of our movement because this is either appalling ignorance or outright and open bigotry.
Happy pride month
I did not have that on my bingo card either. Fluke Jeeratch (who was in My Ride and The Whisperer and who went by Fluke Pongsakorn until recently) is now with gmmtv.
If anyone wants me to say my opinion on a character with this bingo
Yes, there is a bouncy castle and a ball pit!
