Oh my God, it's coming together. I'm so excited. I can finally see the finished piece. When I work, I tend to cross a point where I can see the piece complete. Before then it just feels like limbo, and I have to have faith to get across the line. #21 The World - Lexi Colored Pencil on Paper 2014 Last in my World of Darkness Tarot series: Lexi "When you were little, and you were on the playground, maybe on the merry-go-round, maybe on the swings, maybe just seeing which of your friends could spin around the fastest before falling over, when you were finished and you lay down on the grass, giggling and gasping for breath, the sky above you and the earth beneath you would spin, and for a second, everything was different. The scientists will tell you it’s just an imbalance brought on by a disruption in the fluid in your inner ear, but you knew what was really happening: You made magic." That’s what magic was for Lexi Streete. Growing up in West Berlin during the height of the Cold War, in the shadow of the great and terrible Berlin Wall, she Awakened at an early age. Through her peripatetic adolescence, she grew into the quintessential European club kid, using dance, drugs and sex to master the essences of time and space, and tap into the Lakashim, the world’s heartbeat. And by changing her perceptions, whether through psychedelics or just the high you get from an awesome mosh pit, she helped others to alter their own understanding of the physical and metaphysical world, and of themselves. A dozen years after the end of the Cold War, Lexi found herself back in Berlin, tracing the path of the wall that had shaped her childhood. An old man was standing near Checkpoint Charlie, and as she stood next to him, in companionable contemplation, he turned and asked her, “I wonder what it does to a child, growing up in the shadow of this Wall?”.
