solitude in the rain || Elphin & Percival
Elphin took a moment to let Percivalâs words sink in. He was usually quick to answer, but there were his moments when he felt a bit hesitant. A lot has changed for him, ever since the day of the assassination. After suffering through the months, he was able to collect himself and start anew, while keeping some part of him from the past. But even so, a new side of him had come â a side of him he did not like.
âVery dutiful of you, General Percival,â he said, making himself sound clear and slightly amused. âI shall accept your protection. After all, what would a bard like me do when danger arrives?â
He didnât wait for a reply. Elphin immediately tended to his instrument as a way to distract himself. He was hesitating again, and he didnât want said hesitation to become noticed. He let his thoughts wander to the fact that they were both protected by a shelter, which also provided privacy between them. So perhaps, there was no need to act like a simple bard â at least for nowâŠ
Mildain let a finger rest gently on a single string, before he turned half-way towards the blond knight, his eyes opening up a bit more.
ââŠdo you remember the time you tried to convince me to return to Etruria?â
Percival watched his liege tend to the instrument, fascinated, as always, by the intricate workings of his delicate fingers.Â
The question took him aback. Did he remember? Of course he remembered. He could never forget the fear that had built up in his chest as he saw his prince seem to consider never returning, spending the rest of his days on the island, away from his home and likely away from his knight as well.Â
ââŠYes, I do.â Taking a bit of a hint, his voice softened as it only did when they were alone like this. No one, he imagined, could hear them over the rain, anyway.Â
âDid you change your mind?â Another question laid just beneath the surface of that one â do you intend to leave me again? âI cannot⊠I cannot follow you. One of us alone might pass, but together, no mistakes could be made as to⊠your renown, master bard.âÂ
âI still intend to return back home,â Elphin said, his voice soft and calming, hoping it would ease the purple-clad knight. He could almost read Percival's mind, or at least most of his thoughts. It was easy for him, seeing how the other would somehow let his vulnerability show when in private with the bard. Elphin could do so much with this advantage, but he chose to respond with a kind approach.
âBut I was simply thinking back to it-- thinking back to when I was serving Master Roy.â
Somehow, speaking of this wasn't enough. He could still feel Percival's emotion under the soft demeanor. Perhaps he did more to the man than he expected. After letting out a small breath, he pushed the harp to one hand, and with the other, he slowly lifted it and pressed it gently against the knight's cheek. This was not a first, but it was his most tender moments when alone with this man.
â-- You can rest easy now.â
solitude in the rain || Elphin & Percival
It was easy, if unpleasant, to transition back into the veiled speech and disguises heâd been used to before. Percival waited until his liege was safely beneath the shelter to duck under as well and wipe his soaking hair out of his face. He took a seat on one side of the cluster of dry grass and leaves heâd managed to find, leaving most of it for the other.
âI suppose debating the means by which we got here does us little good. In any caseâŠâ Was it safe to let slip a bit of honesty? No, he couldnât be too careful. Heâd wait for the bard to make known his preferences, if theyâd changed. ââŠI did miss the songs of home these three months. I felt half-sure Iâd never hear them again.âÂ
He didnât think it possible, but the rain increased in volume and intensity, as if trying to drown their conversation out. The shelter held, thankfully, keeping them both safe and somewhat drier than they might have been otherwise.Â
âIf it pleases you, bardâ your voice is still favored in the courts. I would be remiss to allow you to come to harm in this place. Would you⊠allow me to stay by your side, at least for now?â
Elphin took a moment to let Percival's words sink in. He was usually quick to answer, but there were his moments when he felt a bit hesitant. A lot has changed for him, ever since the day of the assassination. After suffering through the months, he was able to collect himself and start anew, while keeping some part of him from the past. Mildain let a finger rest gently on a single string, before he turned half-way towards the blond knight, his eyes opening up a bit more.
â...do you remember the time you tried to convince me to return to Etruria?â
Arrival (Elphin-Lucius)
Monk of the St. Elimine churchâŠ? Then that must mean⊠Yes, it had to be true. Elphin realised he had stumble upon a fellow Etrurian. A relief this was, even though the man wasnât someone he recognised. He was very much a monk â Elphin could tell through his marred vision. This was confirmed by the light clothing Lucius was currently wearing.
But to be completely sure, Elphin prepared a question for the other man, and then focus on a proper response. âYes, I would very much appreciate thatâŠ,â And now, the right moment was set.
âPardon me, Master Lucius, but are you Etrurian?â
So the stranger was Etrurian, he hadnât just been rushing to conclusions! Well he was most certainly from Elibe if he recognised the St Elimine church. Lucius found himself wondering whether the bard was from his own present or that of General Percival, or even a different time altogether. It would a bit hard to ask and explain about that though. The stranger seemed lost enough, Lucius didnât want to intimidate him.
âI am sir,â Lucius replied politely, âAnd may I suggest that you are as well?â
Was there a chance that this man knew General Percival? He seemed noble, his polite speech and mannerisms in addition to his fair hair, however he said he was a bard. Lucius decided it was best not to question the man, it would seem rude after all.
âYes,â he admitted, attentively. He didn't intend to reveal more than what he have already said. He wanted to make sure his true identity was kept hidden until the right moment. Whenever that would be -- not even Elphin knew.
But now the bard had a question in mind, knowing Lucius' confirmation. It was safe to say that the two were in a similar situation, but perhaps the monk was transported here sooner than Elphin's arrival. For one thing, he didn't seem so confused, and it would seem as though he have learned some things in his stay in this world. Perhaps he could help this simple bard...
âIf I may ask, Master Lucius,â he said, turning his head to face other male. It would seem that in this moment, his vision was a little better but perhaps it was momentarily. âHow did you end up here?â
solitude in the rain || Elphin & Percival
The sight was unmistakable, and yet, Percival found himself doubting. It could be some illusion, some trick of the fog or of whatever entity had brought him here. At least, he thought so, until he heard a voice he knew could never be replicated. It always seemed to slip away from him; during that year, he couldnât bring it back to his mind no matter how he tried. And yet, here it was, perfect, not a shade too deep or high. He resisted the urge to bow.Â
ââŠElphin. I had heard tell you still sang in Etruria, butâŠyou have been transported here as well?â
Something fluttered at the base of his stomach. His liege was alive and well and right before him, in his sight, where he could be protected. And yet there were doubtless untold dangers here in Ettavia, things Percival knew nothing of. He wasnât sure whether to despair or rejoice.Â
âIâve a shelter built. Come beneath and dry off while we talk.â And he delicately took Elphinâs hand to lead him back to the spot.
It has been a while -- perhaps even longer. After finally being reunited, Elphin didn't expect the knight to use the prince's real name. He was a little surprised, although he didn't express the feeling. It was only for the moment, anyway.
Percival must have been transported into this land sooner than Elphin's arrival. Perhaps he would know more of their situation, which might provide some clues to finding a way back home. Keeping this in mind, the bard made note to mention it at a given opportunity. Elphin then took notice of the familiar hand holding his own. This was just like Percival -- ever so careful when laying a single finger on the Prince of Etruria. It was expected, but it wasn't something Elphin wanted to happen more often. And yet, it wasn't so bad -- this loyalty from Percival was something the prince would never want to change. But without keeping the knight waiting any longer, Elphin nodded and walked into the shelter, his gaze taking a glimpse at the surroundings before deciding to speak to Percival again.
âI suppose it wasn't a coincidence to find you here, General Percival,â he said in his usual sweet and calm voice. â-- Yes, I was in Etruria. I had plans to play my songs for the king but...as you can see, I have ended up here.â After finishing his sentence, he took a look at his clothes. In the end, they were an issue, but he figured only he could personally handle it, before Percival could interfere.

solitude in the rain || Elphin & Percival
A little bit of rain normally would not have bothered Percival. He was used to training in all weather, even when the other recruits would relish at the thought of a break; it wasnât as if his enemies would take days off when the sun didnât shine.Â
But peering through the heavy mist through the woods and his sopping-wet bangs, he felt⊠uneasy. A shiver seized him; his boots were heavy with cold rainwater, his clothing plastered to his skin. Heâd get nowhere in this weather; he didnât even know where he was. And if he should catch some ailment out in the wilderness, it would hamper his progress even further. There was no reasonable choice but to take shelter, in whatever form he could find it.Â
Not far â a blessing, as his field of vision was far reduced â he spotted a patch of grass beneath an especially tight group of trees. Arriving there, boots squelching in mud, it was a bit drier than the rest of the forest. It would do for a while, at least. He stripped himself of his cape and hung it between the branches, then, with a bit of work, crafted enough of a shelter with stray branches that he might be able to get some rest.Â
Or so he thought, until he heard the sound of footsteps through the downpour. He reached for the hilt of his blade without drawing it and, taking advantage of the fog, stepped out of the shelter to see who the interloper was.
âWhoâs there?â
In weather conditions such as these, Elphin would normally be nearby an inn or some sort of shelter. But he was unlucky now, and yet, he was not bothered by it. It wasn't as if it was his first time in the rain, especially after his second chance of life. Besides, he did enjoy the rain, especially when the air was cool. Although the fog provided a bit of an issue for him. Regardless, he kept moving forward.
He then spotted trees, and...a small shelter? Elphin couldn't tell if it was occupied or not, and he stepped forward with slow, wet steps. But he curiosity was answered sooner than he thought when he heard a voice call out in his way.
Elphin was noticed.
He halted to the sound of the very familiar voice. He tensed, and he was surprised. That voice belonged to none other than Percival, a particular knight he knew back in Etruria. A certain, loyal man... But what was he doing here? He place was in Elibe --Â in Etruria. Finding him here was rather odd, but perhaps not coincidental.
âPlease yield. I am a defenceless man. A mere bard, to be exact.â Even so, he approached carefully. If this man was truly Percival, then Elphin will see. If not, then the bard must be imagining things, and would perhaps question his own mind. And he did see. While the fog made it hard for his blurry vision, he caught a glimpse of the man before him. There stood a tall blond man in purple armour.
â-- General Percival?â
Arrival (Elphin-Lucius)
He immediately halted once he heard a soft voice in the air â the voice of a gentle being, perhaps. Although still blind, Elphin remained calm, running unmarred fingers against the frame of the instrument he held in his possession. It was a harp, and it was his only familiarity and comfort.
âHello, and yes,â he finally spoke, his voice just as soft. âHowever, I do believe I am lost.â Perhaps this stranger could help him. He seemed kind enough, although Elphin knew best to approach this circumstance with cautious through a friendly persona.
âI am a travelling bard who is looking for a place to stay. I may have stumbled upon a land I am not familiar with.â
Lucius frowned slightly. The man was definitely talking to him, and was facing in his general direction, yetâŠwas looking a good foot to the left away from him. It was if the man had located the sound of his voice butâŠohâŠwas he blind? Whatever deity had brought them here was indeed cruel if they had left a blind man on his own in the middle of nowhere! Why would the gods do such a thing?
â It is a pleasure to meet you sir bard,â Lucius replied, still speaking softly, âI am a monk of the Elimine churchâŠthough that doesnât to mean anything to those living round here. I believe we are in the same situation,â
Blind or not, Lucius would help anyone if they seemed in trouble or had lost their way.
âI have been wandering this area for the last few days sir and I have located a village in my travels. Would you like me to take you there?â
Monk of the St. Elimine church...? Then that must mean... Yes, it had to be true. Elphin realised he had stumble upon a fellow Etrurian. A relief this was, even though the man wasn't someone he recognised. He was very much a monk -- Elphin could tell through his marred vision. This was confirmed by the light clothing Lucius was currently wearing.

âPardon me, Master Lucius, but are you Etrurian?â
Arrival {Elphin & Klein.}
Things were just as vague and confusing for Klein, though he had his sight. Â He wandered about in a daze, taking in as much of the placeâs customs as possible. Â All in all, it wasnât such a foreign countryâ no, the sniper fit right in, much to his relief. Â His clothing was a bit nicer than the average personsâ, but that seemed to be overlooked here. Â It was almost a pleasure, and he asked as many questions as he could to as many villagers as he could before theyâd shoo him off in annoyance.
But still, it wasnât home and he wasnât sure how heâd gotten here. Â Trying to remember what had happened the moment he arrived always gave him an awful migraine, forcing him to think of other things. Â It was something unclear; he was simply playing at practice as a way to vent his frustration and stagnating energy, and suddenly had.. just appeared. Â Thatâs all he could come up with before the pain turned too severe to continue thinking about much at all.
He strode along this worn path somewhat absently, drilling himself in the history heâd learned of this land, thinking of what he might do next. Â The last town was full of people who viewed him with mixed amusement, puzzlement, and irritationâ heâd felt he needed to leave and let them get on with their lives, free of his heckling. Â
Just ahead, he noticed a figure. Â It didnât particularly catch his interest at first. Â After all, this was a public road, and it was semi-busy. Â But he couldnât ignore the long, pale-morning hair, or the way the steps the other took were questioning and searching. Â Kleinâs breath caught in his throat and his heart stopped. Â A moment more of gawking, and he was absolutely sure of the âstrangerâsâ identity. Â
âP-Prince Mildain!â he squeaked out, absolutely uncaring of the otherâs request against the name.  This was more of a shock perhaps than coming to this land had been; the two together was just a block in his mind.  He started off towards the other at a controlled yet frantic pace.  What was he doing here?  How long had he been here? Â
What was it that brought the two together like this now?
He immediately recognised the shouting voice and halted on the spot. He took the moment to frown, realising the use of his real name. Although the land was unknown and unfamiliar, the bard would prefer to be referred to as Elphin. However, he knew a select few were sometimes too stubborn.
The voice that called out his name belonged to the young archer, Klein, who was very surprised to see the prince wandering in this place. Perhaps Klein was lost as well? In any case, Elphin was actually glad to see his close friend once more, although he was still slightly annoyed with Klein's outburst. Even so, he remained calm and peaceful.
âGeneral Klein,â he said in a delightful voice, followed by an alluring smile. âWhat a pleasant surprise to see you again.â Although the two were rather close, Elphin remembered to keep things on the surface, in case they were not alone. In a land unknown to him, he thought it was best to keep his identity hidden.
New Lands || Leonardo & Elphin
Leonardo took a careful step forward, looking around at the unfamiliar surroundings. Many trees towered above him, going off in every direction, but the forest was completely alien to him. He gripped his bow tightly in his left hand, though without his quiver on his back, he felt nearly powerless. The only thing he remembered was having a peculiar dream. But beyond that, he remembered nothing of where he was or how he got there.
Taking another step forward, he continued to look out for something, anything, really, that could give him a hint as to what exactly was going on. But after travelling for some time, there was still nothing that seemed even vaguely familiar. He stopped for a moment, sighing quietly to himself. âWhat could have happened⊠What is this place?â He glanced briefly down to his bow, which was now the only thing he had. Worry and confusion began to gnaw at him, but he made sure not to show any outwardly signs of his discomfort. He had to remain calm in order to think straight.
After another moment, he began walking again, still taking each step carefully. He was bound to run into someone eventually.
Elphin walked further into the land for an hour or two, perhaps even less, since there was no way to keep track of time when his mind was distracted. His pace picked up only slightly, as he began to regain little sight, but he knew he would feel much better after a good rest. The light surrounding him was beginning to fade. The sun was setting, and he knew he would soon have to find a place to settle down.
As he continued to walk, he began to wonder about his precious Etruria, and the people living in it. He remembered entering his home country, planning to see a certain knight and an archer. There were more goals to achieve, but now it seemed that these plans would not come true, at least not for now. And he wondered how long he would stay in this foreign world.
Most importantly, he haven't the slightest clue about this new land he stumbled upon. He wanted to know where he was and if it was possible to return home. But as he focused his mind on this particular issue, he did not notice the faint sounds, but noticed them after another step. The bard immediately stopped and gripped the instrument, his lovely harp, as a form of comfort.
â-- Is anyone there?â he asked in a kind voice, despite his weary condition. He turned his face slightly, and he caught a glimpse of short blond hair. While his sight wasn't fully healed, he could still see the yellow and the blue on a male that seemed to be someone close to his age. Somehow, he thought of a certain archer as he stared quietly for an answer from this intriguing newcomer.
Arrival || Elphin & Levin
Elphin took a step forward, and the scent of the land became different. Another step, and the light and darkness that surrounded his view has changed. This was a sudden shift he was not aware of, and at this very momentâŠ
Blindness.
His side affect was at work again, and the youth halted on his path. It was an aimless trail, anyway. He did not know where he was now. Everything around him was different â foreign. He was not in Elibe anymore.
He was alone and lost, but even so, he kept a calm demeanor as his he tried to collect his thoughts. Perhaps he could find a place to sit and rest, and he would be fine afterward. He wanted to find anything, even a rock to sit on. In his situation, he could not bother with being picky â not that he was in the first place.
To find a place to rest, Elphin slowly took another step forward.
It had been ages since Levin had just wandered, allowed himself to be aimless. It was irresponsibility like that which had cost his Silesia so muchâŠbut here, in this place, it hardly mattered. Nothing really did. So he allowed himself to simply walk, without a destination or goal in mind outside seeing more of this place and testing the character of the breeze as he traveled.Â
Heâd found himself on a rather empty path, worn more by weather and age than by footsteps. Plants creeped through cracks in the stones, reaching out to trip anyone with unwary steps. It seemed a good place to walk alone, in solitudeâÂ
But he was not alone. Another person was there, walking⊠somewhat slowly, with more care than Levin might have expected. Immediately, with that hair, he thought of Adean â how beautiful everyone had found her, how many of the armyâs men had been smitten with her in more innocent days. Perhaps this wanderer was of JugdralâŠ? Levin could only know by speaking to her.Â
Coming closer, he spotted the instrument carried by the woman. A songstress, then? He quite liked the idea of that. Carefully, he approached, keeping something like his old carefree act to his manner.Â
âFancy meeting a lovely musician this way,â he said, tipping his head down in a casual bow. âNothing sweetens a journey quite like a song, hm?âÂ
He became aware of the nearing footsteps coming his way. As the sounds inched closer, Elphin made his stop, and braced himself for an approach. He then heard a man's voice, one with a flirtatious intent.
As a bard, such behaviour was something he became accustom to during his travel in Elibe. People were made to believe Elphin a woman at first impression, often leading to awkward responses from the one with the assumption. Elphin, on the other hand, did not care for the confusion. He never took offence, nor did he encourage the situation. He would simply respond as he normally does.
âOh, hello, kind sir,â he greeted, his lips curving up into a small smile. âIt would seem you fancy the melodies of a simple bard. Are you interested in a song?â he asked, assuming the stranger had a request in mind. Performing wasn't an issue for the bard, not even in his condition. However, he was surely more interested in finding out where he was, so that he could return home -- if possible.

To find a place to rest, Elphin slowly took another step forward.
Lucius moved his sewing things into his money pouch for safe-keeping before using the now spare bag to gather the blackberries from the bushes heâd just discovered. It was best to only spend money when needs be so if he found a free source of food it was not to be missed.
He wandered round the bush when suddenly he spotted a figure nearby. The man (he was quite effeminate but Lucius was fairly sure he was a man) looked incredibly lost and definitely scared. He was stepping in such a tentative manner, making it very clear he was definitely not from around here. Another person who had been brought here against their will? He was certainly unlike any of the townspeople he had seen nearby. One glance at the man had made him thinkEtrurianâŠbut that was just an assumption. It was likely he wasnât even from Elibe at all.
Lucius was not one to leave a man so helplessly in distress.
âAre you alright sir?â he asked, drawing closer. He kept his tone soft and his tread light so the man could have no reason to think him hostile.
He immediately halted once he heard a soft voice in the air -- the voice of a gentle being, perhaps. Although still blind, Elphin remained calm, running unmarred fingers against the frame of the instrument he held in his possession. It was a harp, and it was his only familiarity and comfort.
