Cecilia’s grade is putting on a play so we’re going to see that. Then Dan and I have an appt (more on that later lol) and then he has a doctors appt. I have a few things to do this afternoon (phone calls 😵‍💫). Tonight Gavin’s new team for next year is having a meet & greet thing at the field so I’ll go to that (gotta check out the new soccer moms lol).

4 years ago Gavin got an award for being one of the top readers in 1st grade. Today Cecilia got an award for being one the top readers in 1st grade (and was the top reader in her class). 😭😭😭😭😭😭

This has been arguably one of the hardest school years (and not just because of school, because of *everything else* things I haven’t even shared or given inklings of. And it’s like, the year is almost over… I’ll have time to breathe…. Time to get things done….

Have you/would you talk about why you're sober?

Sometimes using the term sober seems silly because it’s not like I had an addiction or anything. But it does make people not offer me anything which is helpful.

I made the conscious effort not to drink alcohol when I started to recognize how badly it made me feel after and how anxious I felt while drinking. It was nice having something to take the edge off during COVID times but I realized it wasn’t a good choice. My husband also does not drink (never really has) so it’s easy at home not to do it. I also don’t want my kids to see me drinking as I grew up with drinking parents (who still drink).

My kids couldn’t be more different. We went to the pool for a couple hours and Gavin saw a friend (from school who also has been practicing with his team and will officially be on his new team next season). Awkwardly said hi but didn’t want to socialize, instead chose to eat snacks and hang out near me when not in the pool. Cecilia saw no friends (she didn’t even recognize the daycare family and she ignored the kid from her school) but made 3 new friends in the pool and only came near me when she needed her towel 😂

However, Gavin struggles a lot with adult interactions, ordering food, buying things/dealing with cashiers etc and he went to the snack stand twice by himself with cash 🥹 he also scanned his pool card with no prompting !!!!! which yeah an 11 year old should be doing that but he refused to last year because it made him anxious!!!!

Went to the pool for the first time this year and saw:

1 coworker (who works @ the pool so that’s fair)

2 students from my school (they did NOT see me luckily)

Also saw a kid who has been practicing with Gavin’s soccer team (and will officially be on his team next year), an old daycare family, a family that lives in our neighborhood, our neighbors, and a kid Cecilia goes to school with

💀💀💀 I know it’s inevitable but still. It’s a jump scare everytime I see a student!!!!!

It’s been the hardest year so far to stay sober…… all I wanted to do this year is have a drink and take the edge off. Gavin’s soccer team parents decided to go out after the tournament to celebrate (2nd place!) and originally we were going to the brewery but it’s closed for an event so they decided on the dive bar and I just couldn’t… I feel bad because the kids wanted to go. But I just knew it wasn’t the smart choice for me.

I truly am so annoyed at how much time Dan puts into this soccer club. He took a PTO day. He volunteered @ Cecilia’s field day. Then he said he was heading to the field at 11:30 bc the porta potties are being delivered at 12 plus he has to wait for the cones. Then he said the porta potties weren’t being delivered until 4.

So at 3:30 I called him to see if he would be making it home in time to be home for the bus. He said probably not bc now the porta potties aren’t coming until after 4. I texted him at 4:48 asking for an update. He responded 10 minutes later saying the porta potties just arrived and it would be another 20-25 minutes.

It’s 5:17. We live 10 minutes from the field with no traffic (it’s rush hour lol so it will take closer to 15-20 minutes).

I’m going to estimate he won’t be home until after 6. 🙄

Also he will be gone at 6am and probably not be home until after 9pm (realistically probably closer to 10pm) on both Saturday AND Sunday.

Gavin had the middle school version of field day today and they could buy “privileges” like chew gum, dunk tank, listen to music etc. They also could buy water ice. So we sent him to school with $20 which I thought would be enough to cover the privileges he might want (they’re $1 each, plus if he decided to get water ice). Instead, he bought himself and 3 friends water ice 😂

I mean. I’m happy he was so kind? But also that’s not what the money was for 😂 we did have a conversation about how that wasn’t what the money was for and to just make sure kids aren’t taking advantage of him and his kindness. I only know the one kid (one of his bff since 1st so that one doesn’t really bother me) but I don’t know the other kids so I’m really hoping they are true friends ya know!!!!

Gavin’s best personality trait is his kindness and as a result, kids like to talk to him/be around him. He is kind to EVERYONE in his grade and it shows.

He’s obviously not in trouble but I was like dude!!! 😂 he said the privileges were a scam and he didn’t like any of them so he didn’t want to buy them 🤣 and we did tell him to use the money for what he wanted today…. lol

I somehow convinced both my kids to go to the end of the year CCD community night (I think it’s just mass + popsicles lmao) and I convinced their dad to take them, and now I’m at the house all alone for the next 60+ minutes 😈

Hot take (probably not): if the school says “please wear this specific tee shirt for the trip/event” THE SCHOOL SHOULD PROVIDE THE TEE SHIRT.

The sun coming out at 4:45pm on Memorial Day is just a giant kick to the nuts after the most challenging year ever.
