2nd half marathon in the books.
Took a look at the progression of my mile pace since November of ‘14 when I started training for my half-marathon. Pretty pleased with my progress, though you can see the post-half hangover and break for the wedding and honeymoon in May, which really set me back. I'd like to be sub-9:00 consistently within the next few months, but between the snow and being sick, it has been tough since the start of this year. Still - you gotta have goals!
First run with my new Garmin Forerunner GPS watch. Need to find the right settings for Virtual Pacer, etc., but it seems like a useful tool. The 3.14 (pi!) miles also put me over the finish line of my year-end Finish Strong challenge. I set a goal of 70 miles in November and December, and I reached it! Also, here are my stats for 2015. 99 runs, 350 miles, average mile pace of 10'03". I ended 2014 running close to 12'00" miles, and my December pace was 9'21"/mile. In 2015, I ran a half-marathon. I ran through the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. I ran in three countries. I feel stronger and more capable. And I started, logging my runs in Charity Miles - 64.5 miles to help the Alzheimer's Association.
Set out to do a 4-5 mile run tonight, but by the end of my first mile, it was clear what I really wanted was to challenge my Nike+ 5K PR. It was one of my most challenging runs yet, but I did it! Sure, I only shaved about 4 seconds off of it, but it's progress!
Ran the second leg of the Detroit Marathon Relay today. 6.45 miles in 1:02:36. Also set a 10K PR - 59:57! The Detroit Marathon is a cool race, which in it's full and international half formats begins in Detroit, crosses the Ambassador Bridge into Canada, winds through Windsor, and then returns to Detroit via the tunnel under the Detroit River. It's a great race, and a logistical marvel.
You know you've gone a long way when you run out of trail. 6.5 gloomy, rainy, windy miles. Oh, and a new 10K PR! Just goes to show what can happen when you push through a lack of motivation!
Great run today. First time on the local running trail. Loved it! Almost finished under 28:00. Guess I have a new 5K goal for now!
One of *those* runs today. Couldn't find a good breathing rhythm and felt way off, so I went with 5K instead of the 4 miles I planned. Still, under 30:00 for a 5K is where I'd like my baseline to be right now, so I'll take it!
Six miles in the books, and under 10:00/mile. Tough run. Still feeling the burn from Wednesday's fast-paced runs. On a good training pace for my goal of sub-60:00 in my approximately 10k leg of the Detroit Marathon Relay.
Did two individual miles for pace today. Wanted to challenge my Nike+ PR for 1 mile, but came up just short. Still, two miles each under 8:15 is big for me!
And here are the rest of my runs since my last update. Starting to be consistently under 10:00/mi even on longer runs.
I've been keeping up with my running, but not with this blog. Here's today's run. Training up for Leg 2 (~6.4 mi) of the Detroit Marathon Relay in mid-October.

Also, my mile splits from my 5 mile run today. First and last mile, 1st and 2nd fastest I've run with Nike+. I'm feeling pretty confident.
Weekly training runs update. Emily told me she thought I could run non-stop at a ~9:00/mi pace (or dared me to, either way). So I did. I probably shouldn't have, being just 1 week out from the half-marathon, but I feel pretty good. My goal for the half is mostly just to finish, but if I can get close to a sub-2 hour time, I'll be pretty pleased.
This week's training. You see that 10 mile run? Prior to starting this training program, the furthest I had ever run was 8K (4.97 mi, I think). Today I not only ran 10 miles, but I actually enjoyed it. Twice as far as I had ever run before starting all this, and I'm feeling fine. I wasn't sure I'd ever really experienced a runner's high before. But considering my 7th mile today was my fastest, I think it's safe to say I experienced it on this run.
