I really don´t know if this topic reached tumblr or not but ive seen it a lot on twitter and i have the urge to defend my country.

People from other countries (mostly north américan countries and european) are spreading lies about my country (Argentina) being the most racist country in the world, saying that we ¨eliminated¨ our black population which is a complete lie and im gonna expain it with hystorical facts.

Slavery was abolished in Argentina the 1st of may of 1853 (which started being debated before, in 1813 where they put a law that any child born from slave parents was instantly free) In 1860 every single person that arrived to the country being a slave was instantly free too.

then, why do we have a very reduced number of population that´s black?

well, we never had segregation laws. Marriage in between black people and any other etnicity was always permited and that caused a ¨delution¨. Acording to the 2022 census more than 300.00 people in Argentina has a black background/identifies as black.

We have very important black people in the history of our country, like María Remedios Del Valle that was a black woman who helped get our independence and Juan Bautista Cabral that also was a big figure in our fight for independence.

Please, don´t believe everything you see in the internet and stay informed. There is enough hate on this world for us to be against eachother.

when I was in high school I had a literature teacher who had a policy of unlimited extra credit. All you had to do was read a book by a notable author (his discretion) and have a little chat with him after school to prove that you read it. No limits, no need for variety (one month I decided I really loved Kurt Vonnegut and just read everything of his I could get my hands on).

Yes, I was tearing through books constantly, and talking to this teacher at least weekly. Because even though I always loved reading as a kid, literature was always a very weak subject for me in terms of a teaching-to-standardized-test school setting (I just do awful on "what color were the curtains" type multiple choice questions. Those details don't stick in my memory THEY JUST DON'T). But that didn't matter for this class. I could just read my way out of any bad test score. I have always had fond memories of how I "fudged" my way through that class and "abused' the extra credit policy.

I was thinking about it again today, and only just now realized that he absolutely tricked me into being well-read, while my teenage self thought I was totally getting away with something. THAT MOTHERFUCKER. I hope he's doing well.

Every time you go in a public place and something ISN’T disgusting it’s because somebody cleaned it. Every time you feel comfortable using a public bathroom or sitting at a restaurant table or setting something on a gas station counter or playing on a playground it’s because somebody cleaned it.

I worked in a supermarket for 7 years and I don't think I can understate just how much cleaning you had to do for it to look clean (it very often where not in the places you aren't supposed to see)

True for food service, retail establishments, gyms, outdoor areas, schools, religious buildings, office buildings, hospitals and medical buildings, etc. People usually only notice when a space is NOT clean, meanwhile every time a space is clean it’s only because of the diligent work of janitors, maintenance staff, custodians, parks workers, or volunteers.
