SEIU-UHW Serves California Healthcare Workers With more than 150,000 members, SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West (SEIU-UHW) is the largest healthcare union in the western United States. The industrial union represents a range of healthcare workers in hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes, as well as 60,000 individuals who serve seniors and people with disabilities in a home setting. SEIU-UHW members strive to expand access to healthcare while reducing costs and improving outcomes. In addition to supporting California workers in their desire for fair wages, benefits, and working conditions, SEIU-UHW has played a critical role in the expansion of healthcare through the Affordable Care Act. The organization has hosted nearly 200 free enrollment fairs throughout the state, enrolling more than 11,000 Californians. The union also created the “Let’s Get Healthy California!” campaign, designed to improve the lives of residents by bargaining for strong union contracts and redesigning the home care system for both providers and clients.
