After the Amarna period, Egyptians started protecting their (expensive!) funerary papyri by placing them in papyrus sheaths: a box to contain the papyrus, topped by the figure of a god, often Osiris; or the papyrus might have been hidden inside the figure of the god. This Ptolemaic sheath is guarded by Ptah-Sokar-Osiris.

Despite all these precautions, tomb robbers generally left papyri behind anyway, even though they were costly -- I suppose if you were trying to sell someone's Book of the Dead, with their name written in it, it would be pretty obvious where you'd gotten it. (I'm reading Andrezej Niwiński's Studies on the Illustrated Theban Funerary Papyri of the 11th and 10th Centuries BC.)

Goddess of war and medicine. Daughter and Eye of Ra

Sekhmet is said to breathe fire, and the hot winds of the desert were likened to her breath. She is also believed to cause plagues (which were described as being her servants or messengers) although she is also called upon to ward off disease and heal the sick.

Ra sends the goddess Hathor, in the form of Sekhmet, to destroy those who didnt listen to him. Her bloodlust led her to almost have destroyed hall of humanity. she was only stopped when the other gods tricked her into getting drunk.

Offerings of dragons blood, myrrh, frankincense or wine can be made to her. Dua Sekhmet

Inspired by the writings in the temple of Edfu

Sekhmet, lady of red, lady of pestilence, grab the hearts of the evildoers with your claws and breath the flame of death and despair into the fighters of Isfet. O’ Sekhmet, the one who destests those who go against maat, tear them into shreds so they may never get a trial. Let them wander for all of eternity, starved and forgotten of any fame, of any legacy. Let your fire consume them eating them away for all of eternity, tormenting their minds until they are forgotten ash in the wind. Let them touch no tongue, no throat, no lungs to cleanse us of their evil.

O’ Sekhmet, lady of maat, let us forget them so we may be righteous and untouched of their wrongs. Let us live in the glory of the gods of maat, full of purity.

Sekhmet, lady of terror, defeat the evil and let peace reign into the hearts of those who are pure. Rip of the evil out of our surroundings! Burn it to dust! Burn it to dust! Burn it to dust! Kill the wrongdoers and let them return to nothing! O’ Sekhmet, the dreadful one, sink your teeth and claws into them, letting their wails fuel you for more.

Spare me, the kindred one, for I am a solider of maat! I live my life in the image of Re! I have consumed maat! I speak with truth! Spare me on this day and spare the others that have devoted themselves to maat!

Little red sha cuff. I was trimming some leather for a mask project and got this MAD URGE out of nowhere to make a little sha on a leather cuff. And you know, when you get those mad urges you have to ride them as far as they’ll go.

He’s hand tooled on a piece of firm leather. This piece would best fit someone with slender wrists (I used my own for sizing it and my wrists are dinky) if anyone really wants it, it can be yours for 30$ shipped in the US. I can make a custom one in other sizes as well.

Altar for Bast ˎˊ˗

I set up a small altar for Bast today!! It’s, again, small, but I feel very happy about it. I’ve been wanting to worship Her for a while and I finally felt ready to today.

I was debating whether or not to put it up, but whilst I was in the middle of thinking, I got a text from my friend saying she was at a cat shelter. She sent me a photo of a kitten and asked if I wanted to take it home since her mum wouldn’t let her. And then not long after, my mum messages me asking how the cats are. So yeah. That kinda helped my decision, but I’m happy with the one I chose.
