It’s been an interesting couple of weeks, for sure. Took a delve into some self care, looking at local jobs, thinking about things or otherwise getting distracted. owo; Perhaps I was having the tail end of some burnout, but hey- getting back on track.⁣

⁣

During my inadvertent hiatus, I did take up more sewing projects. ☀️🌸 I am now up to three flowers for Ra (one every 10 days until the end of His year), and have crafted a shrine cloth. A friend of mine gave me their old sewing machine in order to learn how to do so… and I’m very grateful. 🙏💕 So is Sekhmet, I’m sure, Who requested the full, blue cloth in the first place. And yet, I found my Akhu speaking the loudest in teaching me how to work these skills.

So enjoy this little selection of my efforts in the meantime. I’m glad to be able to share them with you all! ☀️ More updates and posting commissions, soon. 💛

My first attempt at watercolor ended up as this mixed media piece- the ones that I got dried way too pale, so I ended up compensating with a mixture of… brush pen, colored pencil, and other inks to get where we are. Overall I’m not displeased! I learned a lot and I love looking at the piece in person. :D I’m excited to try more colored traditional work. How do you worship min and what can he be helpful with in modern times?

This is honestly a very intelligent and interesting question, and I'm very glad you've asked me it.

Min's phallic nature has always been misinterpreted, or rather partially interpreted, as a solely sexual god, and yes, there is an implicit sexual masculine force (which in many cases, has yielded to other goddesses, such as the Sekhmet-Min/Sekhmet-Mut-Min syncretism, which is also ithyphallic, in fact), but it also represents vigor, physical energy, creative power and intimidation.

Since Min is a tremendously protective, powerful god dedicated to protect and fight against baneful spirits, demons and malefic forces, what makes him a smiting or apotropaic god and an invaluable help to those who pratice exorcisms or necromancy (like I do, for example) as well, his vigorous, physical nature makes him a great ally for athletes.

On the other hand, Min is also a god of lightning, a rainmaker, protector of travelers and foreigners, especially those who came from the East, of miners and stonemasons and all those who work in the mountains.

By my side, aside celebrating his feasts (25th December), reciting hymns and prayers and doing offerings (which include lettuce, bull horns representations, bull figurines or phallic items among other things), and considering some of his atributes as physical strenght, creative or generative power and vigor, I also do a lot of workout as devotional act, I help my neighbours with their gardens and gardening stuff whenever I can and consecrate the stuff I make to him.

Other Names: Menu, Amsu (Menu, Amsu) - “The Firm One” Originally probably a fertility-Name worshipped at Qubt (GR Coptos), even in Predynastic times, Min became associated with nearby Amen of Uaset and eventually an alternate depiction of the King of the Netjeru in all manner of temples and monuments. Min’s image caused consternation both among the early Coptic Christians (who routinely defaced His monuments in temples they co-opted) and Victorian Egyptologists, who would take waist-up photographs of Min, or otherwise find ways to cover His protruding manhood (Min is always depicted ithyphallic, or with erect and uncovered phallus). Min’s cult celebrated the fertility of the land with special festivals. The long-leaf lettuce which was Min’s favorite food was also (probably not coincidentally) considered a powerful aphrodisiac. As this same lettuce is in later mythological cycles said to be the favorite food of Set, there may be a connection between the two Names as yet undiscovered. Source Author: Rev. Tamara Siuda

I think it is fitting that the Big Life Change that I was waiting to happen was finalized today, on the Appearance of Sopdet on my localized calendar, just a month before the end of the year. Very out with the old, in with the new vibes, and it wasn't even something I had control over.

I've been trying to properly take inventory of where my practice is because it is so much bigger than I ever thought it would be. I think this winter will be more active than the last few which I'm skeptical of, but I'd like to be hopeful. It would be nice to not feel like I'm justin a holding pattern for a third to half of the year. I want to do more creating this year specifically for my practice and need to make a list of projects to help me stay focused.

I had been purposely been waiting to make plans for the epagomenal days and Wep Ronpet because of this change on the horizon, but I think simple will be better with my newly limited time. Sadly this means no pot smashing execration for me again, but one of these years!!! Tea, maybe incense. Music because there always must be music. A few minutes to meditate. It will be brief, but still nice to make time for.

Bull of the Great Phallus, Lord of the Eastern Desert, God of the High Plumes

Min is an ancient god, whose cult originated in the Predynastic period and was centered around Coptos and Akhmim of upper Egypt. Min is depicted as a man with a erect penis which he holds with his left hand, while his right arm is raised, with a flail poised over it - communicating his associations with fertility (literal, vegetal, and creative) and protection.

He is often depicted dressed in the wrappings of a mummy,  wearing a crown with tall plumes, streamers hanging from its back; his black skin represents the fertile black mud of the Nile’s inundation.

Besides his fertility and protective aspects, one of Min’s most important associations is with the eastern desert, where Egyptians went to quarry stones of every kind under Min’s protection. This association with the eastern desert means that Min is frequently invoked as representing the direction of the east in general and the eastern horizon. The sunrise therefore probably contributes to the symbolism of Min’s erection and of his raised arm as well.

Min is frequently identified with Horus, as Horus-Min, Min-Horus, or by substitution.  x x
