Unfortunately the incarnation-related underwater chimeras and the corrupted Wyrm were the same problem. To put a long story short, a divine incarnation was turned chimeric and went mad, and the "plant girl" was able to help take care of it, and thankfully no one died.

I'm guessing that means one of the people on the boat Alinua was worrying about was an ignan? Hope they're doing alright, though I'm hoping that them not being in the shipwreck with her is a good sign.

Yes, one of my people was on that boat. I believe the catboy managed to fix him, so he should be fine now, for the most part. Given what the godling said earlier about talking to Rakhn, I'm assuming the situation has been successfully resolved.

Alright, here we go then.

So, first, the Ignan Caliban is talking about is named Dainix. Ignans are typicaly tribes (is that the right word ???) of striped humans mainly composed of fire mages, although a few exeptions like Dainix do exist. Now, the Ignans are monster slayers. They tend to know a lot about monsters so they can defeat them easier. They have legends of a monster who, after burning its body away, becomes a mass of pure fire, driven only by its fury and instincts. The Ignans call them Demons, the gods call them Crucibles. They don't seem to be monsters, but more like Ignans with the power to transmute their body until they become a kinda humanoid mass of flames. Dainix is a crucible (wich he discoverd only quite recently, if I understood that correctly). And his main objective is to try and control his powers.

Now, as Caliban said, Dainix was on the boat. The cat-boy that he is refering to is a ferin by the name of Falst and the godling is indead Kendal, Alinua's demigod friend. What happend is that they, along with 2 other friends who where there, got attacked. The person who attacked them trew some kind of mental spell on them ??? To quote Falst : "It's like hornets in your head." But basically, the spell was so strong and overwelmed Dainix so much (wich, he was not okay being in a boat to begin with, so it was just worse) that he reverted to his Crucible form. Under that form, he managed to get rid of the mental spell (hourrayyyy :D) but ended up birning himself out in the process (very much not hourray, and very very very concerning ).

Since Dainix is a Crucible, he kinda needs to have fire to survive, so him burning out was less then ideal as you can imagine. So the solution to that was a Fireseed. So Falst and Kendal had to go to Rakhn and take a piece of his heart. They basically stole a piece of it although it seems like it was entirely unesseceary since the second rock!Dainix fell into lava, he managed to have enough fire to transmut himself back (hourrayyyyy for real this time :D).

I've never encountered fire before, living underwater and all that, but it sounds about like it's described in the stories, albeit more confusing. Also it sounds like this "burning out" has to do with "rock!Dainix"... Did he transmute into a rock?? Good thing he's back, and despite stealing from a volatile volcano god, I really hope they're all okay.

Ok, so basicaly, Crucibles use the fire inside their bodies to transmute their whole body into fire, except for their core, which seems to be transmuted into a rock. Burning out means that he usee all of the fire he had and was just his core, which, again, extremly dangerous. If I remember corectly, it's because even in Crucible form, he could maintain his soulbarrier, but not after burning out.

And to answer your first question, I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to happen often but with this group in particular, it does for some reason ^^'
