strange lil ghost doodle i found in a 2016 sketchbook that i am sure had some sort of contextual comedic value at some point?
A handful of sky deities from Philippine Mythology.
Mayari, the one-eyed moon goddess of war and beauty, Tala and Hanan, the morning and the evening stars, the protectors of the moon, and Libulan, a lunar deity, and his husband, Sidapa, slayer of Bakunawa the moon-eater.
Spanish colonialization has erased many of the Philippines’ lore and folktales. Out of the hundreds of poems and epics written, only two remain. The rest are lost to the flames of Spanish priests. (Yet we treasure what we have.)
The Philippines was the first country in Asia to have ever rebelled against European colonizers.

an Aled headshot and a little Aled and Frances moment because I love these kids! I had so much fun designing Frances’ fried egg raglan (which I got Alice’s blessing on) and bi pride leggings, and drawing Aled in some nice spring-y pastels. I tried to capture Aled’s childlike face and androgynous look as well as possible, and the soft pink hair was so much fun to draw. I loved reading about a weird, artsy, androgynous kid sort of like me!

Cleaning out my filing cabinet, I found this handout that I made for my mini-comics class. Hope it’s helpful! Remember, it ain’t only for comics. Self-publish short stories, collections of drawings or sketches, or blank for journals/sketchbooks, etc.
(Reblogging because I’m doing a talk for teen writers tomorrow and sending them to tumblr is a lot more cost efficient than printing up a ton of handouts)
a lil filmy/grungy effect try out of @chronicintrovert ‘s lovely characters Michael and Tori since I just finished reading Solitaire and I’ve been listening to the Solitaire Spotify playlist a lot. (I’m also a patron on her Patreon I’m becoming a fangirl lmao)
(in my head Tori steals all Michael’s team sweaters because he never wears them and she pretends she’s not a cuddler but she hates waking up so Michael’s morning cuddles make it easier)

Could you do a nose tutorial? Or like a dump if various noses you draw? I've kind of lost my feeling to drawing noses at all angles somehow and I'd like to see some of yours to maybe help? C:
no problem!! here’s a quick dump :))
So you might be saying: Lion why a guide on drawing black people? Well young blood it’s because a lot of people cant…seem…to draw…black people..Amazing I know.
Racist (caricatures) portrayals of black people have been around forever, and to this day people can’t seem to draw black people like they are human. If your artwork resembles any of the above even remotely your artwork is racist and offensive. If you try to excuse that as a stylistic choice you’re not only a terrible artist, but racist too!!! Congrats.
Whitewashing is also a problem. A lot of people refuse to draw black features on canonly black characters. While this example isn’t colored, lightening the skin-tone of a character is also considered whitewashing. So lets start with features!
Now all black people have different noses thats a no-brainer, but black noses tend to have flatter bridges, and wider nostrils. Please stay from triangular anime noses and small button noses. Your drawings should not depict black people with abnormally large noses. (Especially if you do not draw other characters this way)
If you feel like the way you draw lips on black characters is offensive or resembles a caricature,it probably does and you should change it. ABSOLUTELY AVOID PLACING LIPS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FACE.
Hair is so diverse! Please get used to drawing braids, locs, kinks and coils! If you can learn to draw ringlets and long waves you can learn how to draw black hairstyles.
Add clips! Learn how to draw baby-hairs and never be afraid to add color Pinterest and Google are free my dudes! Also try using square brushes for blocking in coils.
OK THAT’S ALL YOU GUYS
I actually got my style of drawing eyes from the Ace Attorney series and probably some 2D Disney movies as I grew up. :)

do you have any tips for palettes? i tried twice and they turned out like absolute shit :///
I usually just eyeball the colors when I draw but this site is very helpful when it comes to choosing colors!! http://www.tigercolor.com/color-lab/color-theory/color-theory-intro.htm
I just sorta summarized it into pictures so you don’t have to go back and forth but i didn’t put the in depth meaning behind it so i still recommend checking the site out!!:
I’m only a self taught artist, no school or professional background so a huge disclaimer
I’m pretty sure most people knows the basics like neutral, primary, secondary and tertiary as well as subtractive primary colors (CMK) so I’ll skip through that along with the cold and warm colors:
Volume and Saturation plays a big role on making palettes. It plays the part of the appeal and what colors to choose, palettes that are too saturated or high on contrast are quite painful to look at (some artist make it work by balancing it out so they still maintain the bright colors) and unsaturated, low on contrast palettes are dull to look at and not very a appealing.
Tints, Shades, and Tones are sub terms you can use, this chart is to help you differentiate them
Now the fun part!!
Color harmonies are basically techniques for choosing colors. Since SAI’s color wheel is kinda a disaster I recommend just looking up a color wheel on google or you can use this one here.
You can pick any of the techniques there (heres a more in depth explanation of each technique) and just start experimenting with them! Here’s some tips to get you started:
Don’t take the techniques literally!! You can toggle your colors all around, just use it as a base
Saturated colors =/= good color scheme balance it out!
Contrast is your pal remember that but too much of it can hurt your eyes :(
I usually use a maximum of 5 [or 6] colors and a minimum of 3 for making palettes. 4 is usually the most common one used
I pick 1-2 very saturated colors and the rest are up to the mixing
HAVE FUN!!
Here are some palettes I made using each techniques:
Hope this helps!!
Hey Everyone!
A lot of you have been requesting if I would make any sort of video tutorials on my process, so I figured I would do a 4 part series on gesture drawing.
You can check out part one here - https://gumroad.com/braydenkowalczuk
Also, your feedback is much appreciated.
Cheers!
a study on drawing heads at different angles :V
hey look I decided to add photos in case that’d be more helpful
there are two distinct borders of this shape: the jawline, which is rigid, and the underside of the chin that is soft and connects to the neck
sometimes the neck flesh overlaps the jaw bone though
