"A special case?" He mutters as his eyes narrow before relaxing back to that neutral state cold curiosity. An intelligent curse, born of negative human emotions. Just how strong can curses become? What is the range of their powers? All of it was new and interesting.

Muzan stepped closer.

"Lord Muzan," He answers, "I'm sure being born from emotions isn't the most interesting thing about you. You've gotten to see a bit of carnage in this alleyway."

The color of those plum cat eyes grow a few shades deeper.

"You ought to share what a curse like you can do."

"Lord Muzan? Fancy."

The name fits odd in his mouth, like it should come with consequence and only doesn't because he's gained some sort of favor by being strange. Douma had mentioned his master was a fearsome, cantankerous sort when in a bad mood - but being favored by him was a most sought after sensation.

Mahito leans forward, offers his hand for Muzan to look, and melds his flesh with a thought. A sharpening of his soul turns his fingers to blades complete with a shiny razor's edge. In another flick of his wrist, the knives turn to feathers, his outstretched arm a wing to the shoulder joint.

"I can freely mold my form to anything my heart desires. I can use it on other creatures too - with restraints right now. The only limit is that I require a soul to touch."

The feathers are soft to the touch when examined, flexing like a bird's wing really would.

"This is all me, though. Curses are unique with their abilities. I knew one who could turn almost anything to ash if he got angry enough."

The evidence of his wrongdoing evaporated and there's a moment of consideration. It would've been rather useful for such a thing to happen to keep himself even further under the radar. He eyes the blood lifting from his claws as the very last bit of concern left the two utterly alone.

"I did hear once, that I did curse an entire bloodline," He speaks thoughtfully, letting his eyes drift back to the strange creature, "All demons were human once, a folly if there ever was one."

There's a hint of annoyance there. Like mentioning rain fall later in the day. This lingering human fault of connection was a force not a single one of his demons could overcome.

But a curse wasn't human in the first place...

"Do curses have a name?"

With the corpse between them a distant memory, those eyes turned to pin Mahito like a bug stuck to a board. There's a flutter of something that might be fear under his ribs, inseparable from excitement in his brain.

Cursing an entire bloodline? Quite the powerful negative emotion. There's a wonder if he was born from such a curse hundreds and hundreds of years ago.

"Most curses don't, but this one does."

"You can call me Mahito. I'm a bit of a special case when it comes to curses - many of them stay small or stupid. It's rare for them to be as well-spoken as I am."

This was Douma's master, then. What a fearsome man....

"And your name? It's only fair to share."

Of all the times for him to be cursed, of all the places for it to activate, of all the beings for it to activate in front of--!

His body immediately locked down, tensed, solidifying to stone. His cursed energy coursed through him, crashing in tidal waves through his system, urging him with every pulse to move, to fight, to flee, to do absolutely anything but stand fucking still and start talking--

But talking he did.

What even was there to say to the curse?

"I don't have any hard feelings for you, because I don't have any feelings towards you to begin with." He finally said. Coldly, quickly. Blandly. Getting it over with so he could move. "You're not a person to me. You don't have a nature to judge, because you're less than an animal. I can't feel anger towards you because it would be the same as being angry at a dog. You're a consequence. You're the dirty footprints of humanity. The only thing I feel towards you is regret that you still have a mouth to speak."

"I'm both." Despite the lack of blood dripping from his fingers and even more so the bland taste lifting from his tongue, Muzan didn't look too sad about it. Only a meager dab of curiosity. Those plum red eyes peer too closely into Mahito's own mismatch pair.

"You're not human. The smell you carry is... interesting."

Nothing very pungent but it lacks in the natural oils human skin carries. He's certainly no demon of his either... though something tells him he could make a strong one with some work.

Ah, he's getting ahead of himself. He doesn't need an army anymore either.

"What are you?"

It takes him longer than he wants to admit to shake the feeling of fear turning his limbs to lead. It's a fascinating new experience to be pinned under those eyes like a butterfly to a board - or a rabbit in a trap.

His soul flickers at the idea of a challenge before he does break into a smile. So, this one could tell he wasn't human just by his scent. There's half a thought to ask what his scent does carry - is it blood? Is it something unique to curses?

He'd asked Geto once what curses tasted like and wondered if they smelled just as foul.

"I'm not human, you're correct."

"I'm probably closer to something like you than a normal human, but I can't say I'm entirely divorced from them either. I'm a curse born from humans."

The man at their feet begins to melt away in the strange way corpses vanished in this place. It's a little disappointing.

He, once again, hears that noise he thought he might not have to. Even after that horrible night-scape that gave him his new scar along his back he hadn't heard it...but then again, he had figured something like this would happen sooner than later.

Brown eyes look at the hand waving then slide back to that unfortunately familiar face. David doesn't shove him back even as he leans forward into the brawler's space, his lips pursing out just enough to show he doesn't appreciate the motion...but he's not stopping him.

" Hey; haven't seen you much. Was wonderin' when you'd show back 'round.."

A pause as he tips his head some to the side to watch him. That fluttering still in his ears.

"You come t' Get Done, then?"

"I've been busy with my own stuff. I'm sure you enjoyed not being bothered so much."

David doesn't shove him back and it just means Mahito leans forward into his space more. He leers forward, not quite touching but curious about how close he can get before he's made to stop.

He had threatened harm on David last time he saw him - but where was the fun in starting with that?

"There's a lot of fun things to find in the dark corners of this place, but you have to be willing to look for them."

He leans back suddenly, space placed between them again, as he raises his hands to show David his empty palms. That infernal fluttering had yet to stop - in fact, it grew in insistence.

"You're sure we can't be friends? Maybe I don't want to fight you."

"I thought I saw a ghost."

He laughs brightly as he speaks up. The upper streets of Fibonacci have people bustling about, all but ignoring the strange patchwork man that stood further up the path. At a glance, it seemed like the typical nature of a curse, until a man brushed against Mahito's arm and stumbled with an apology.

So, he was solid then.

"I'm not surprised you've found your way here. Looks like we're neighbors! How fun. And you don't have that cleaver of yours."

There's a sound looming just in the periphery of David's awareness, one he hasn't heard in such a long time. It starts as just a persistent hum that gets more distinct as the seconds pass, until -

It's a heartbeat. Or some vile mimicry of one. It flutters too quickly and erratically to be a human's heart, instead giving the impression of something struggling to free itself from a cocoon.

There's a smile that greets him when he turns, stretched on a stitched face that's painfully familiar. Mahito raises a hand to wave to him before he leans forward, humming softly.

"Hey. It's been a while!"

Hand over his heart, phone on the other and takes a deep breath before tapping onto the text message field. It takes couple of attempts to start til it feels natural...
