hey everyone! sorry I haven't posted in a minute. life's been busy. but I'm about to start college again (gonna be a senior this year!!) and I thought it'd be nice to make a little list of things that help me keep my life together during the academic year.
take your meds! keeping your mental & physical health in check is the most important thing. š
eat what you need to when you need to. if your brain isn't getting the nutrients it needs, you can't do your best in school! protein is really important for brain function as well as health in general. š±
hand-in-hand with that, whether you're on meds or not, make sure you've got your support system. the people (doctors, therapists, family, friends) who support you and who you can talk to if necessary š«
get a calendar. can be physical or digital, whatever works best for you. put due dates/classes/meetings/whatever on there to make sure you've got all your ducks in a row. šļø
wash your hands often! classrooms are dirty, and you don't want to get sick right when you're trying to get back into the academic groove. š§¼
brush your teeth! I know that for me, I'm always worried my breath smells bad in conversation, so I find it easier to talk to new people and relax a bit when I've brushed my teeth before classes. šŖ„
figure out where you work best. library, classroom, dorm room, work & study wherever you feel most focused and productive. š
take good notes! on paper is shown to be more effective, but if digital works better for you personally, go crazy. āļø
get a good relationship with your teachers/professors! be kind to them and communicate well and respectfully. but if an instructor isn't being kind to you or treating you with respect, don't hesitate to ask to be moved to another class. š©āš«
get to know your academic advisor/counselor. if they're good at their job and know you mean business, they can be a big help. š¤
general hygiene! shower, do laundry, wash your sheets (especially if you have a roommate). you'll feel better and those around you will appreciate it, too. šæ
