Did you know that thanks to centuries of selective breeding and aiming for increasingly bigger sizes, domestic pigs can outgrow wild boars if given a chance? The smaller skull here is a mature wild boar from Germany, the massive beast next to it is a domestic pig of unknown breed that was allowed to grow to his maximum size and develop tusks. The domestic one is two or three times larger than it’s natural feral counterpart and much heavier.

Pigs are very fatty animals and their bone is notorious for being really dense and hard to degrease completely. The dark yellow spots on the bigger one’s jaw are resurfaced oil. I ought to try cleaning him again in the summer, but I doubt he’ll ever stop greasing up.
