Worth The Wait (Rimmer X Reader) - Part 3
Summary: Set before the radiation leak that wiped out the crew. A third technician working under the careful and insufferable eye of Arnold Judas Rimmer, head of Z shift, the two of you strike up an unlikely bond until a particular incident turns it on his head.
Warnings: Definitely gets a bit heavy towards the end but as usual it’s the lead up to it! 👀
After establishing the relationship, the two shifts a week you worked with one another were a hell of a lot of fun. You knew you had to keep a line between your relationship and work but that was a lot easier said done …especially for Rimmer. Having not had much in terms of relationships he found himself constantly craving your touch, the feeling of you in his arms, the way your body felt against his as he held you close as you fell asleep at night, the way his lips were always desperate to meet yours. So trying to keep that boundary was hard work …well when you tried to keep it anyway.
The last shift with Lister was done with and Rimmer without second thought headed straight to your quarters. Making sure the corridor was clear before quickly and carefully poking in the code for the door, walking in as they whooshed open and swooshed shut behind him.
“Lock!” He called out as the door clicked “Y/N?”
“In the shower!” You called out over the sound of running water from the tiny shower stall.
“Oh ok” Rimmer sighed as he sat down on your bunk “I’ll wait”
You couldn’t help but laugh to yourself a little, you knew it would go straight over his head.
“That was an invitation…” You stuck your head out of the shower stall with a sweet smile as Rimmer looked up from his hands on his lap.
“Oh…” A soft but seductive smile crept across his face as he stood and began to undress. It never occurred to him that he could just simply join you, that he didn’t have to ask first.
Just as you were about to reach out for the shower gel, two long pale white arms snaked around your waist as the body they belonged to pressed itself comfortably against you. A soft sigh left Rimmer’s mouth as he nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck as he let himself relax for the first time that day.
“Hey” You cooed as you let your arms rest on top of his “I missed you”
“I missed you too” He mumbled against your shoulder.
“So how was todays shift with Listy?” You asked, gently running your fingertips across his arm.
“Do we have to talk about that gerbil faced goit right now?”
“Long day” He groaned “All I wanted was to be here with you”
“In the shower?” You teased as you let your fingers slip between his.
“No but it was definitely a nice surprise” You felt him smile against your shoulder.
“I thought you’d like it”
“You cheeky minx” Rimmer let out a soft chuckle as he tightened his arms around you, one arm across your hips while the other moved up your torso as he pulled you against him, the warm water cascading over your entangled bodies.
“All perks of a relationship” You laughed softly as he smothered your shoulder with kisses “Besides… you know I’m always happy to help you de stress”
“Just being able to see you makes me feel better” Rimmer cooed as he carefully turned you to face him “Although we’ve been in here a whole five minutes and you haven’t kissed me?”
“The audacity!” You smirked as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, watching the odd bead of water roll down his nose before standing on your tiptoes to press your lips gently to his, Rimmer tilting his head a little for better access as you felt his body press firmly against yours
“Here why don’t you let me take care of you for a bit” Rimmer smiled sweetly “Turn around”
You did as he asked, stood with your back to him once again as he reached an arm around you to grab the body wash from the side before squeezing some into his palm and warming it up between his hands before massaging your shoulders.
“Hm?” His hands moved slowly down your back, arms creeping back round your waist as the water washed away the soapy bubbles.
“How did I get so lucky?”
“Well I’m pretty sure had I invited any other guy to shower with me they would’ve just assumed sex was on the table” You laughed a little “But you didn’t”
“Well I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’m not any other guy” Rimmer chuckled as he nuzzled his nose into your neck again.
“And not to be a downer but I’ve not had much in terms of relationships” His arms tightened as his lips hovered by your ear “So forgive me for enjoying the smaller things”
“I get that” You smiled as you leant back against him slightly, turning your head to look up at him as he smiled sweetly down at you “I love you”
“I love you more” Rimmer’s voice dropped lower as he leant in to kiss you “much much more!”
You basked in the warmth of the water and his arms a little longer before deciding to step out.
“I’ll let you have some time on your own” You turned to face him, placing your hands on his chest, feeling the firm muscle beneath.
“Spoil sport” Rimmer smirked before an innocent smile took over “Can we do this more often?”
“You have an open invitation to join me in the shower anytime” You laughed softly, stretching up to place one last kiss to his lips before stepping out.
Of course it didn’t taken long between you stepping out and drying your hair for Rimmer to rejoin you. Jumping into a pair of flannel pajama bottoms that he kept neatly folded on his own shelf in your storage locker before towel drying his hair.
“No shirt tonight huh?” You smiled as he sat down on the edge of your bunk.
“Is that ok?” Rimmer suddenly looked panicked as you walked over to him “I just thought…”
“Hey its ok” You replied as you ran your hand through his damp curls, his hands tugging at your hips to pull you closer as he smiled up at you “We did just shower together”
“I know but I’m still very much new to all this” He sighed as you placed your hands on his shoulders, tracing soft circles with your thumbs “and I really don’t want to screw it up”
“Honestly…” You spoke quietly as you placed a finger under his chin “I couldn’t ask for better”
“I’m sorry if it feels like things are going slowly” Rimmer smiled halfheartedly.
“What makes you think that?” You furrowed your brows as you sat on his lap, running your thumb across his cheek.
“It’s just I know I’m dwelling over the little things most people just brush over” Rimmer sighed “But I can’t help it …I never thought I’d actually get any of this”
“But you did and it’s sweet that you’re making the most of everything” You spoke softly as you pressed your lips to his cheek “Sometimes the little things are more important …a relationship is more than just constant sex”
“I just love being with you” Rimmer smiled as he brushed back a loose piece of hair behind your ear “I love the way you smile…”
“Arnie?” You couldn’t help the almost goofy smile on your face as he said it, slowly moving to lay down in the bunk and bring your down with him as he continued to tell you about all the little things he loved.
“I love how you feel in my arms, how your body feels against mine” Rimmer mumbled between delicate kisses as he held you close “How every kiss feels like the first, the way you still and will always drive me crazy”
“You’re too sweet” You spoke quietly as you softly brushed your nose against his.
“For the first time since I can remember I’m happy” Rimmer’s voice lowered as he ran his thumb across your cheek “Happy just being here with you!”
“Well it’s a good job I don’t have a roommate to worry about” You giggled as he brushed your hair back behind your ear “No awkward interruptions”
“We don’t have to go any further than this…” Rimmer smiled sweetly “This is more than enough”
“Oh you won’t be saying that after work tomorrow” You grinned as he chuckled quietly.
“I don’t doubt it” Rimmer replied as he caught your lips with his, catching you off guard as you let out a soft whimper, his hand holding the back of your head as he deepened the kiss while yours moved gently over his chest.
“I’m so glad I wound you up!” You smiled trying to catch your breath.
“I should really get payback for that” He chuckled as he pulled back a little.
“You wouldn’t dare” You teased.
“I wouldn’t get too cocky if I were you?”
Suddenly before you could even get to the end of that question, Rimmer was on top of you, your hands pinned above your head as he kissed you a little more forcefully than last time.
“Because I might get my payback sooner rather than later” Rimmer’s voice dropped lower as his mouth hovered by your ear.
“Now, now, don’t be a tease!”
“Well…” Rimmer smirked, loosening his grip on your hands as his slipped one arm underneath your back before flipping you over on top of him “…Karma’s a bitch!”
“Uh oh…” You couldn’t help but smile followed by a small yelp as Rimmer’s hands moved lower down your back, his fingertips underneath the waistband of your shorts.
“But I think I’ll wait till tomorrow when we’re working”
“Sure there’s nothing you want to do now?” Your voice was quiet as you placed a gentle kiss to his lips.
“Now who’s being a tease?” Rimmer smiled as he gently rolled you over, playing with the hem of your t-shirt before pulling it over your head and throwing it to the side. Starting at your lips he began to trail kisses along your jawline, down your neck, across your shoulder all the way down your body to the waistband of your shorts, moving back up to kiss your lips as he hooked his fingertips under the elastic and expertly removed your shorts.
“Definitely still you” You laughed quietly as he leant in to kiss you again with a chuckle as he managed to remove his own pajama bottoms before settling down beside you face to face, draping an arm across your waist to pull you closer.
“Much better” Rimmer sighed as he ran his thumb softly across your cheek “Much much better”
“You really are a sucker for skin to skin contact aren’t you?” You kept your voice quiet as you gently moved your fingertips across his chest.
“I’m just a sucker for you” Rimmer looked at you with nothing but absolute love and adoration, every so often gently placing a kiss to your lips.
“Winding you up was totally worth it”
“You’re the only one who can get away it!”
