Am I biased or does this not sound like a truly confused parent but a man who already had a lot on his plate, a single dad without a support system, who already knew how to raise a boy just took an easy way out and transed his daughter instead of reaching out for advice on how to raise a girl or gasp! Read a parenting book?

It sounds like a setup for a cash grab. There are lots of secondhand stores specifically for kids stuff (or, you know, how about her older brother's clothes? did they just throw out all his old stuff?) and the talk of taking a 7 year old to a new pediatrician in relation to a transition that happened less than a week ago shouldn't sit right with anyone. Estrogen blockers? For a 7 year old??

There's definitely something fishy here. I'd wonder if this man took custody of his 2 kids for the state benefits. Especially with the "caregiver" thing for his mom, you get money for being an official caregiver in the state of Washington. (According to him, the other grandma is a meth addict?!)

I think family caregivers SHOULD be compensated, btw, but it is suspect that this guy just got custody of his kids for an unrelated reason, he's going to be a caregiver for his mom, and now his youngest daughter has transitioned, pending an "insurance change" of some kind. OP is also planning on getting food stamps. It reads like a conservative's wet dream of benefits fraud. Getting on and staying on state benefits is not easy, so if this is real, OOP is in for a rude awakening.
