It was a slow night for Kenneth. There were no new calls or problems down at the agency, so he decided he would go check on his girls rather than make one of his security guards do it. He preferred making the rounds himself anyway. However, the business was usually so busy it kept him from doing so. It wasn’t known as the most popular escort service among the elite for no reason.

He was making his through a hotel when he noticed a girl that he felt he must have met somewhere. Suddenly, it came to him. They went to the same university. Kenneth had already started graduate school when she was in her first year, so they didn’t have much of a chance of interacting. “How has he been?” Nate asked, knowing that there really wasn’t a very nice answer to the question, but really it was the same as asking her How have you been dealing with it lately? “Well, until then, I’ll be keeping you company.” He smiled and headed for the small cafe just outside campus, where they usually went. He rolled his shoulders into a shrug. “I told my parents about the whole being gay thing and it turned out to be worse than I expected.”

She gave a slight sigh, her smile becoming tight lipped. “He’s been fine,” she replied, although Seohyun no longer knew what fine meant. Her father seemed more like a stranger every day, not recognising her anymore than he did the ever changing nurses in his ward. For days, he wouldn’t even greet her and the occasional smile was all that she could hope for.

She shook her selfish concerns out of her mind though, hearing that things hadn’t gone so well for Nathan. “They’ll come around,” she spoke, her voice soft in a comforting matter, “It’s a shock for them, but you’re still their son, Nathan.”

She was evidently uncomfortable, her posture stiff and face turned away from the others in the restaurant. Seohyun shook her head, “N-No, I’ve ever seen him in my life. I don’t see any situation where I would meet someone like him.”

Staring into his refrigerator with his phone in hand, Jaewon nodded his head as she told him she would be arriving soon. He quickly remembered she wasn’t able to see him and let out a rushed “mhm” into the phone. Unsure if he had enough food for the two of them if they got hungry, he leaned against the open door of the fridge. A sudden shriek from her end of the call caught him off guard. Holding the phone away from his ear, he stared at the iPhone with furrowed brows. “Hello? Seohyun?” At first, Jaewon wasn’t too concerned, staying on the phone in case she answered him; however, another thought occurred to him and he felt his heart skip a beat. If they found her, he worried something else may have happened. 

Tightly gripping the phone, he rushed out of his apartment and out of the building, jogging around the corner and down the street in the direction of her home. Keeping a calm facade, he looked around for her, calling her name every so often in hopes he would find her. “Seohyun?!”

She was glad that it wasn’t a deep scratch, only breaking the surface enough to draw a bit of blood. Although it would be irksome to some of the clients for a few days, it was unlikely to hinder her work, something that she couldn’t afford to do considering the number of bills and costs that she had to pay in the coming week. Seohyun had just pushed herself to stand when she heard Jaewon’s voice calling her name.

“I’m here,” she called out to him, catching sight of the male as he came running towards her. She took a step forward, but limped as she felt a pain at her ankle, wincing. It was likely just a twisted ankle, really, but it hurt none less. “Sorry about that,” she said sheepishly, “I tripped.”

He returned the hug with a smile, gently squeezing her small form. “I wanted to see my boo of course.” Nathan smiled when he stepped back, dropping his arms back to his sides. “And our last attempts to meet up didn’t go as smoothly, so I thought it would be nice to come here and surprise you. But if you have other plans like take care of your father…” He knew it was a subject that was hard for her, so he addressed it in a gently manner. “Maybe I should have texted you before I came here.” He added with a sheepish smile. “I just, I can’t really go to anyone else.”

Some of the students passing by might have mistaken then for a couple, although they didn’t stop to stare at all. One of the perks of being Seohyun was that people didn’t seem to notice her very often, being plain of appearance and comfortably unspectacular in general. “It’s alright,” she responded, shaking her head slightly, “I actually have something on in a few hours, so I wouldn’t be able to go see him until tomorrow morning anyway.” Her arm looped comfortably in his as they headed down the corridor. although the fatigue was still evident in her eyes, it seemed to have disappeared from her voice. “Is everything alright, Nathan?” she asked.

They had met a while back, and Nathan really liked her company. So much that he’s even told her what he couldn’t really tell many others. Or no one for that manner. And he had gotten to know a thing or two about her as well. 

They had been trying to meet up but things had gotten in between it every single time, so on a free day, Nathan had decided to go and surprise her after classes. It felt weird to walk along the halls or on campus after having graduated. He grinned when she appeared in sight and gave a small wave of his hand. “Hi there.” Nathan greeted her.

She tried to pay attention the best that she could, but her eyes were barely able to stay open. One of the issues with her occupation, although it did give her the freedom to attend classes and visit her father, was that she often spent her days with sore limbs and tired eyes. Staying up late and being forced to drink dubious amounts was never good, especially for a light weight like herself.

However, not even her fatigue could stop her happiness from seeing her friend waiting for her outside of the lecture hall. “Nathan,” she called, her smile audible in the tone of her voice, “What are you doing here?” Seohyun greeted him with an embrace - uncommon in Korea but, well, they were as close as siblings.

Seohyun placed Dubu onto the counter, the small puppy then happily running over to Joomin and nuzzling the other woman’s hands. “Well, I had the afternoon free from study, so I thought I would take Dubu out for a while,” she said, a smile on her lips, “I also wanted to thank you for taking good care of her while she was here. If there’s anything more I can do here, please let me know.”

Luhan chuckled. “Well it’s mostly practiced. I’m just a bit of a geek I guess, it’s not for everyone.” He paused, picking up the cube and messing it up, beginning to absently solve it while he talked. “They just fascinate me. I wish I was more skillful with different types, now I have more time to practice so maybe I’ll learn.” He looked up and smiled at his friend. “How are you lately?”

It had always fascinated her, and she was the curious sort anyway, how Luhan could solve these puzzles in such a casual manner. “The human mind is curious, isn’t it?” she wondered, half speaking to herself, “It makes you wonder how much we could be capable of...” 

Seohyun was snapped out of her thoughts though, looking back up to meet his eyes, “O-Oh. It’s been good, actually. I went to see my father just yesterday.”

Her tattered backpack was still hanging from her shoulders but, regardless of her pauper like appearance, Seohyun didn’t seem ashamed before the ex-idol. Instead, she just smiled.

She’d dropped the phone, instead pushing herself up to sigh at the graze on her palm, “Great.”

On normal occasions, he’d take his two dogs to the park for some fresh air, however, they had a tendency to venture off even on a leash, and Byunghun’s attention span didn’t aid that. So this time, he figured he’ll just visit alone, and maybe allow them to tag along another off day. It’s hot, and the sun was at its peak in the afternoon, which didn’t help him either, considering he was dressed in a thin hoodie just for the sake of not being recognized. But a small white puppy in the arms of a stranger draws him over completely, something that wasn’t an abnormal habit to the male. If he could adopt more dogs, he certainly would. Except the dorm wasn’t a zoo. “Aye, she’s cute!” He pauses at least a foot away from the bench the owner was rested on, keeping his gaze fixed on her puppy, “Wait– it’s a she, right–”

Seohyun had Dubu in her arms, taking a few hours to give the small pup some much needed sunlight. “I’m sorry I don’t take you out enough,” she mumbled, taking a seat on the bench with her backpack beside her, “I really should have thought this through before I adopted you, shouldn’t I, Dubu?” The fact was that she simply spent too much time in her studies and working to go out on walks everyday, which was why a small puppy was more suited to her. It still concerned her that she couldn’t afford to spoil Dubu more though.

“Hm?” Her attention was caught by the words of a male, his eyes seemingly caught by the small bundle of fluff in her arms. “Oh, yes she is,” Seohyun smiled, holding Dubu up and waving her small paw, “This is Dubu.”
