I really and genuinely hate how much the narrative of "men are naturally stronger than women so we need different categories" is so dominant as to be baseline accepted by everyone instead of "men are socialized into valuing and developing strength and continually given opportunities to engage in high level athletic activity against quality opponents at young ages" and "the sports we value the highest as physical feats and dominance are ones men possess slight natural edges in biologically while sports that would favor women slightly are devalued"

Thinking about when I was a freshwoman in college and a formerly incarcerated woman came to talk to my feminist theory class about how she believed in abolition but only for women's prisons. She spoke about how rare violent female criminals are, especially when you exclude abuse victims/self defense etc. She spoke about how many of her peers were broken and abused and needed help. She spoke about how isolating mixed-sex spaces for formerly incarcerated people were because so many of the men were openly threatening or misogynistic. She spoke about how complete abolition is unrealistic and impractical because of the epidemic of male violence. She had so many amazing hot takes that she would say without shame or hesitation. It really opened my eyes because I didn't think I was even allowed to think things like that. Anyway I hope she is doing well and I fully agree.

a lot of the process of me gaining feminist consciousness involved hearing a woman say something that i had been socialized into believing was too far and internally i was like “you cant say that!” but also internally admired her strength and outspokenness until i read more and came to agree with her and be able to say it too. but several times i was like what!! you cant say that!!! while actually wishing i could feel like i could say that too.

examples i can think of rn:

whenever women would say things like only women can be witches, witchcraft belongs to women, men cant be witches or even warlocks or wizards, etc etc etc

and this was like when i was right on the edge of peaking it wasnt the final catalyst but that would come in the next few days so. pretty much. but a text post kinda blew up on here it had a few thousand notes and then everyone was like “shes a terf!! the writer of this silly post is a terf!!!!!!! evil!!” and i went to her blog to see what all this was about and her about page had something like “im not a terf i just fucking hate penis i hate penis so much i think penis is evil,” and yeah my reaction at first was like woah woah woah thats. you cant say that! but i really really wanted to say that myself too.
