anyway i just think it's cool that wonder woman continues to have such an unwavering hope and faith in humanity despite all the terrible things she's witnessed and despite everything they've done to her and taken from her and i swear if i see any of y'all complaining that the ending to ww84 was "too unrealistic" for having the nerve to be "happy" i will RIOT and here's why: the audience doesn't and shouldn't relate to Diana. she's too good and too moral and too righteous and she ALWAYS does the right thing (from an ethical perspective at least). the audience is supposed to relate to the two villains, both of whom have suffered at the hands of an unmerciful society. we can all relate to that feeling of the world being against us. in response, however, both lord and barbara make grave mistakes to get what they want and get revenge against the people who either wronged them or refused to believe in them. and in most superhero movies, we might be lucky enough to get a turnaround redemption at the very end before they die, but you RARELY see villains actually get to re-emerge into society and be given an actual second chance to better themselves. but that's what this film does. and it's beautiful, because the audience, who relates more to these villains than to the hero, sees the villains forgiven, unashamedly and undeservedly. but that's what both wonder woman movies have been about: it's not about what they deserve, it's about what you believe. and Diana absolutely refuses to compromise her belief in the goodness of people, even if they don't see it in themselves. that's what this film is saying: always believe the best in people and push them towards good, no matter the cost, because that's how we better ourselves and each other. and so if anyone wants to throw a pity party because they didn't get their usual dose of violent fantasy deaths and gritty cynicism then go cry into your game of thrones pillow and leave me alone.
