We’ve all seen the varying quality of photos on auction sites such as eBay. Listings with a selection of well shot photos are much more likely to sell than those without.

This article on fstoppers.com shows how well taken photos add tremendous value to a car that could have otherwise looked pretty average.

These photos stand out because they are shot in a different way to standard second hand car photos. That immediately makes them different and interesting. The photos were also shot in some lovely golden light which just makes the car look more desirable.

Fundamentally, the photographer has thought a bit about what they are doing which made a huge difference to the end result.

More proof of the importance of good photos when trying to sell products online!

Sensory feedback technology could make a touchscreen feel like anything.

Disney Research (yes that’s a real thing!) have shown off their new technology which can make any surface capable of conducting electricity feel like various other textures. The ‘Revel’ system - or Reverse Electrovibration - sends a weak current through the users skin, creating an “oscillating electrostatic field” around it.

When the electrically-charged user comes into contact with any object connected to the same ground as the Revel signal, the electrical potential difference between the finger and the electrode generates an electrostatic attraction force that creates a sensation of friction between finger and object. By varying the signal properties such as frequency or amplitude, the system can manipulate different tactile experiences.

While the system relies on electrical conductivity to work, almost any other surface could in theory be converted to do so, using a layer of conductive paint with a thin layer of insulating varnish on top.

This is a lovely new app that works as a collaborative spreadsheet which is perfect for group activities and team projects. You can add content to the squares in many ways including voice, using your iPhone as a remote, and pulling in information from sources like Facebook.

Everyone likes a funny 404 page, but sometimes people forget that error pages do have a purpose. They need to tell users what went wrong, and then give them a way to get out of the problem. Whilst this page is amusing (for those of us who have seen 2001: A Space Odyssey at least), it doesn't particularly explain the issue, and it gives users no steps to get back to what they were doing. They are resigned to using the back button on the browser which is never what you want to make your users do. Personality is super important, but we need to make sure that things are useful first.
