/More Honkai Chapter 23 spoilers
This chapter had a lot of really good character development all around! Herrscher of Domination seems to prefer more emotional/psychological attacks, and she has done a lot to unearth characters' fears and doubts.
This part hurt. Prior to this, we had been seeing Seele trying to grow, to be stronger and more independent, but this also meant that Veliona was starting to feel like she wasn't needed anymore.
All this time, Seele had just been calling her "the other me" ("ling yige wo"/"mou hitori no atashi"). But HoD's also right: Veliona, until this point, has never been called by name, and she never had one. That's probably why she feels insecure about her identity.
Veliona's kind of like self-defense mechanism for Seele, so once Seele is strong enough by herself, will she still be needed? Will she still be wanted?
Veliona sulks about this for a while, and then we have this really heartwarming passage from Seele:
She asks her if she has a name she'd like to be called by. There's just so much love, trust, and acceptance from Seele.
But the biggest thing was during the fight with HoD, when Seele entrusts full control of her body Veliona. The latter's taken aback, of course, and she kept asking her if she was sure, if she was okay with it, if she wasn't afraid she was going to do something bad:
And, finally, she says the name she wants to be called by: "Seele." They're one person, fully accepting each other.
Seele's case is such an interesting portrayal of a split personality due to past trauma, but the love and trust between the two of them is just so beautiful. I'm really looking forward to Seele introducing "Seele" to her friends!
So please stop calling her "Veliona" now, guys!! She is Seele! They are both "Seele"! It'll be confusing for us, haha, but I want to respect the name she has chosen for herself.
