Hey! I’m Serchalyt, but feel free to call me Serch. She/They | Approaching my 30s | Professional enjoyer of poor decisions and fictional war criminals.

It is probably about time I made a proper pinned post, considering it looks like I’m going to be staying here for a while. :)

Before I jump into the “about me” section:

My DMs and asks are open! Questions, suggestions, requests, discussions, criticism (whether it’s about my art or my rhetoric) are all welcome.

The only thing I ask is: please don’t message me to solicit commissions. And no, I don’t mean emergency commissions. I am always happy to support artists who genuinely need help. I mean the increasingly common “hello dear, I love your profile, may I interest you in my services” bot behavior that keeps finding me across the internet like a plague. If you do that, I will block you.

Now, about me:

I spent roughly fourteen years in another fandom. I’m still there, technically, but burnout eventually caught up with me. When I stumbled into Warhammer, I fully expected it to be a temporary hyperfixation.

Well. It’s been three years. And I’m starting my second army. I fear there may be no cure.

Honestly, Warhammer ended up healing a lot of that fandom burnout. The community has been surprisingly welcoming, the people I’ve met have been lovely, and somewhere along the way I realized I was having fun again. So I’m going to be making Warhammer content for the foreseeable future.

And if you happen to recognize me from another corner of the internet: hi 🖤✨ you’re absolutely welcome here. I deliberately kept my names similar enough that old friends could identify me if they found this blog. Don’t be a stranger, folks.

As for the actual content of this blog:

At some point I realized that my tabletop hobby needed more whimsy… unfortunately, my definition of “whimsy” appears to involve the Night Lords. Yes, I know jumping from one Chaos Space Marine faction to another is barely a jump at all.

Counterpoint:

Fuck the Corpse Emperor.

Also, the Night Lords have significantly more meme potential.

This blog is dedicated entirely to Night Lords nonsense, including physical crafts, digital art, miniature painting, sculpting projects, prop making, and whatever fresh heresy I become obsessed with next week.

Hey folks! 🖤✨

I’m still chipping away at the Picrew, and I’m still working on my other silly little doodles in between. Right now I’m deep in the armor stage, which has slowed things down a bit because I made the questionable decision to tackle the infamous skull pauldron😅

It… does not look good yet. I also refuse to trace it. (Not because I’m against tracing as a learning tool - I think it’s perfectly valid for practice! I just don’t want to end up with the exact same skull size, spacing, and proportions as the official media. I’d rather struggle until I find my own version.)

That said, I’m going to take a short break from the Picrew over the weekend so I don’t accidentally speedrun burnout.

I would, however, love to draw some more Night Lords OCs!

So, if you have a Night Lord OC (or you’d like me to design one for you) I currently have ✨ ONE ✨ request slot open.

This blog is still pretty new and sparsely populated, so realistically I don’t expect to get flooded with requests. But if, by some bizarre twist of fate, I get more than one, I might end up drawing those too if time permits.

Here’s a little WIP of my picrew progress of the facial features! Can you tell that I like drawing teeth? I’m going to add more black options and more yellow options eventually:)

Please tell me if there are any particular facial expressions you’d like to see or if there are any special mouth customizations you’d be interested in.

*Edit: I think I might be able to add a color picker to the teeth? Like if I make each option come in 4ish colors? White -> yellow -> rotting -> black

Also QUESTION: is there a canonical color for Nostraman gums/tongues?

🦇 Art Request PSA + explanation/rant 🦇

First of all, thank you for all the enthusiasm around the Picrew and my art in general. 🖤

I absolutely welcome art requests! I can’t promise I’ll draw every idea, but I genuinely enjoy hearing what people come up with.

That said, I have a few preferences that I’d like you to keep in mind when requesting art from me:

✅ Warhammer only.

This blog is dedicated entirely to Warhammer, so I’ll only be taking Warhammer-related requests here.

✅ OCs and canon characters are both welcome!

I’ve always had a huge soft spot for OCs. If you send me your little guy and ask me to draw them, your odds are honestly pretty good!

❌ Romantic ship art.

This one isn’t because I think shipping is bad, or because I’m a prude, or because I have some grand moral stance. It’s just… not the kind of art I enjoy making. The easiest way to explain it is that my art style is aroace.

That is not a statement about me or my views on relationships. I’m very much LGBTQ+ friendly (I’m bi IRL, for what it’s worth). This is purely about my relationship with my own art.

Art is primarily therapeutic for me, and for whatever reason, drawing romance - even completely wholesome PG romance - just makes me feel oddly vulnerable. It doesn’t fit the artistic direction I enjoy exploring. So I simply don’t draw romantic pairings of any kind.

That said, if you draw ship art? Hell yeah!

I love seeing other people’s romantic art. I’ll happily admire it, reblog it, leave comments, scream in the tags:)

I just don’t enjoy creating it myself.

As for everything else:

✅ Gore? Absolutely.

Rubbing my braincells together in an effort to remember how picrew creation works:) I’m still gonna wait a few days for the poll to end before committing to a format (but it do be looking like the 600x600 bust is winning.)

I think I’m going to zoom out and make both pauldrons visible^^ also still debating the symmetry. It certainly makes my life easier here…

However, I am messing around with slightly more dynamic pose options!

So I figured I’d give a more minimalist version of the NL cake a try. This time it’s French vanilla and buttercream flavor^^ well supposed to be… the frosting might taste a little too much like food coloring lmaoooooo

Hey folks:) this is a post about the NL picrew I’m working on! Plus some rambling and sketches.

What’s the verdict?

Option A (Bust)

Option B (Full Body)

Option C (Because fuck you, Serch) lol

Option D (??? Comment/DM?)

I’ve reached the stage of the Picrew where I need to commit to a format, and Picrew’s canvas size is… less than generous. 600×600 or 540×960! So I’m trying to strike a balance between detail, readability, and “this doesn’t make me want to chew through drywall.”

At the moment I’m considering two approaches:

Option A: Bust/Portrait

A detailed bust in a 600×600 format, which would let me cram in a lot more customization—helmet details, facial features, scars, skin tone, expressions, trophies, armor damage, etc. Everything could be bigger, cleaner, and easier to read.

This option would definitely give me the most room for detail.

Option B: The Full Body

A zoomed out 540×960 composition (this is ofc just a sketch/quick trace from space marine 2 screenshot just to give me an idea of format - for final result it’d be done in my regular art style). Less room for tiny details, but WAY more flavor.

I’d have space for dynamic poses, weapons, little companion creatures, trophies hanging off the armor, and even different backgrounds. It’d feel less like a character reference sheet and more like an actual illustration. The downside is that everything has to be much simpler to stay readable at Picrew’s tiny resolution.

And then there’s…

Option C:

Make both as completely separate Picrews.

…

We are not discussing Option C.

(Unless enough people actually want both, in which case my inability to say “no” to a fun project may become my downfall.)

I’d genuinely love to hear what you’d personally use more. Would you rather have a super detailed portrait maker, or a more dynamic full body maker? Feel free to ramble - I love hearing people’s thought processes^^

Made these out of resin and they remind me of rooster shaped sugar candies that were a staple in my childhood^^

If I ever had it in me to make a full illustration, I’d draw a little Nostraman street stall selling bat-wing-shaped sugar candies. ^^ Maybe even a young Night Haunter quietly swiping one.

Although, now that I think about it, I’m not even sure he’d actually do that. For someone his size, a single piece of candy has basically zero nutritional value. He’d probably burn more calories sneaking around to steal it than he’d get from eating it.

Then again… There’s that moment in The Night Haunter where he’s standing in the rain and realizes: “ah. So this is what crying would feel like.”

So maybe he’d steal the candy for the same reason. Just to stand there eating it and think: “ah yes. A sweet treat. So this is what having a childhood would’ve felt like.” 😭

Night Lords husbandry continues to be my favorite genre because what do you mean I have to explain to these two genetically engineered superhuman predators that there are, in fact, no more snacks.

I like to imagine that half of Night Lords husbandry is just disappointing them.

“No more treats.”

“No, you can’t eat that.”

“No, your brother is not a snack.”

They’d never believe me anyway:)

Also yeah yeah yeah the lines are reused and sloppy lol, ik🖤 I didn’t feel like drawing something from scratch for a shitpost;)

I’ve been thinking about your suggestions for possible NL pets for the picrew and doodling to get an idea of their anatomy. You are 100% right about Arthromite Spinewyrms! They look like they belong on Night Lords:)

It’s not exactly scale accurate but I think this works for shitpost purposes. Thank you again so much for your help!
