The Comfort of Death.
You watched, another soul on your abacus with a ticked off expression. Hands gripping your scythe with a small squint. It irritated you how much youâve been called down to claim souls and how often people are dying. Sure, it was strange. But not too weird.
You sighed, tying up loose ends as you slowly slipped on your cloak. You fed into the grim reaper aesthetic too much but who cared? They didnât see you. At least you hoped they didnât when you stalked in the shadows. Always watching with eyes following every targets motionsâŚ
Yet recently, you noticed an influx of deaths in one grouped area. A small alleyway in a city that no one dared go in. You shrugged it off, getting ready and immediately heading towards earth with a large set of black wings that didnât fly but helped you float.
You landed in the alley, eyes darting from the brick walls and the scent of rain. Eyes darting around as you stalked in the shadows. The smell of blood now piercing your nose. It felt acrid, horribly unpleasant for a normal human⌠but you werenât a human. So it didnât matter much-
You stepped on something. Grey and white brain matter squelching under you as you looked up. A smooth dull orb floating aimlessly in the air as it darted a bit. Obviously confused.
âGreat. Lost one.â You spat, sighing as you took out your abacus and started counting. âSoul number 809341. Youâre with me.â
The orb looked towards you with black holes for eyes, slowly drifting towards you as you held out a glass bottle. Slowly sucking the soul in and closing it with a cork. Your eyes making sure it was sealed and immediately nodding once you noticed.
You turned, about to leave as you hear steps from behind and a small clink of metal.
âHah? And I thought reapers were only fantastical storiesâŚâ the voice is raspy, deep and harsh as he scrapes the metal against the concrete floors. âYet you look charming⌠donât you?â
You cringed, looking over at the man with faux devil horns and a devilish grin. Crowbar in hand as he laughed.
âI left for ten minutes and a reaper is already claiming this soul?â
Your tongue clicked, licking the edge of your teeth as you turned to face him properly. Not saying a word as The Devil scraped closer to you with an eerie grin.
âCâmon, donât you know who I am?â He asked, croaking his question out. âRonin. Call me Thâ Butcher.â He said, laughing like some hyena as he leaned against a wall and looked you up and down.
âMan, youâre awfully quiet there⌠devils got your tongue?â He smiled, leaning on his crowbar with a raised brow.
âOh man⌠youâre cute huh? Silent in the presence of me?â You stare at him, hands tightening on your scythe once more as you looked away and said :

You open up shop for the day, yawning as you let your employees in and consult them for the day. Hands holding a clipboard with a strict sense of urgency. Nothing important today, just how you usually acted. Always helping your coworkers / employees at the sake of your own health. It wasnât much, but you tried your best after all.
âAlright. Letâs get to work.â
You threw a thumbs up and tied on your apron, nodding as you made your way to the front and inhaled the soft aroma of coffee and baked goods fresh from the bakery in the back that now sat in their respective places. You nod, counting everything and making sure everything was in place.
Ding!
The front door bell rang as it was prompted to, regulars coming in at their usual times and you served with the utmost duty and respect. Of course, there was an odd complaint here and there but they were all fixable and had no problems being fixed for the person who asked.
Your hands worked diligently as you poured cream into a cappuccino, the design making its form on top with your smile obvious with the beautifully done quickness of it all. Then the bell rang again.
âWelcome to Yaoguai!â You called out.
âDemon huhâŚ? Not opposed.â The man who came in whistled slightly, hands in his pockets as he approached the counter.
You placed the drink down, dusting off your hands to smooth out your apron and turned to fully face him. Your steps soft and methodical as you approached the cashier and flashed your usual smile.
âWhat can I get for you today?â
The man chuckled, his hair plum in color with a beanie that held two faux devil horns. How ironic with your cafeâs nameâŚ
âGet meâŚâ he eyed the menu for a bit. â⌠A London fog.â
You blink for a second, the edginess of the man didnât seem to exude someone who would like something as smooth and gentle as that drink.
âAlrightâŚâ you typed in the order. âAnything else?â
âAnd a slice of your apple tart. They look absolutely ravishing.â
His voice was like molasses to you, making you shiver somewhat as you nodded and typed in the order. âName for the order?â
âRonin.â
You mentally chuckle, thinking about typing his name as Roman for a bit.
The more you looked at him though, you mentally placed him as someone who would like JD from Heathers. It made you want to laugh a bit as you typed in the name.
âGreat, thatâll be $20.57.â
Ronin smiles a bit, nodding as he takes out cash and pays with a hum.
âSo, what made the owner name the place Demon out of all things?â
âDunno. I guess it just seemed fitting considering weâre more specialized in dark roasted coffee and such. Plus, the owner loves learning demon theology.â
You didnât admit you were the owner at first, especially since you didnât know the man. But he seemed trustworthy⌠at least for now.
âAh, no wonder. You know, Maria told me I should come here. Shouldâve come here sooner hah.â Ronin laughed slightly. âBut hey, worth it.â
You chuckle at his response, moving to pull out a slice of the tart for him and slide it into a box that was dark brown in color with golden motifs and the name of the cafe written in a smooth font.
âYou know her? Sheâs a loyal customer.â You hum. âSheâs raves about us on her socials, never have been more proud.â
âShe compliments your work a lot.â He grinned, leaning against the counter. You normally would have complained, though it was a rather slow day and hardly anyone was here. âI can see why. You obviously love your job. And youâre cute.â Ronin winks.
âOh?⌠Thanks, I guess.â You chuckled awkwardly, taking the drink that had been ordered from one of the employees. Sliding the two items over to him. âHere you go!â
Ronin nodded, turning to take the drink and box.
âWell, thanks for the food.â He sips his drink, shuddering at the warmth as he smiled at you. âAnd the great drink. Nice meeting yaâŚâ he examined you for a bit. â⌠Hydrangea.â
You blush at the nickname, watching as the devilish stranger leave with his items and into a beat up car that he seemed to have pride in. It amuses you how nice the man was and how flirty he seemed to be. Maybe it was just how he acted⌠but it was endearingâŚ
The passing days were a blur for the most part, working as always. Busy and bustling, seeing some regulars and whatnot. Ronin though had been coming often during the low points of the day to order and flirt a bit. It was always nice to see himâŚ
It was a slow day today, your exhaustion heavy as you worked effortlessly to manage the day. No mistakes, perfection.

Your head immediately snaps over to look at Ronin, your brows furrowed in confusion as you shake your head.

He wasnât wrong. You were exhausted, more than ever. Stress had been hitting and it was only a matter of time before you keeled over in deep sleep. You wanted to resist but rest sounded so good at the momentâŚ
âFine fine.â You roll your eyes, telling Ronin to wait for you there and go to tell the manager who seemed pleased that their boss was going to finally get rest.
You hung up your apron, leaving the room to finally go with Ronin who seemed all too pleased to finally get you to rest.
âLetâs go.â He winked and walked out with you, sliding into the cars drivers seat with you scrambling to get into the passengers seat.
Eyes strewn from the heavens, now watching the two who bickered to no end.
âCome on Ther, donât you crave the feeling? Revenge is key after allâŚâ His hands slithered onto their shoulders, his eyes stuck on how their chest rose and fell with every breath lost to time. âYou agree with me⌠donât you?â
âRoninâŚâ
Ther sighed quietly, arms crossed against their chest with fiery curls flowing down their back. They glared over at Ronin, blue and piercing. Just the way he liked it.
âCâmon. We can do this⌠please, one chance. Back to AngelWood. Back to hell. Jusâ you anâ me.â
As much as Ther wanted this, they couldnât go back. They didnât want to relive the past as much as Ronin did. But gods did revenge leave such a sweet taste on their tongue.
They turned to look at the man, tall and brooding. Ther swore they could see a tail wag behind him. Pointed and red. It made them cringe a bit at the blood stained crowbar that rested on his hip, hanging loosely from its spot. An odd comfort, sure, but worth the risk.
â⌠Fine. Weâll go.â
Ronin lit up, pumping his fist into the air with a hiss of yesâs and strewn about ideas cobbled together for some massacre that he swore will get them into hell ( though they knew for a fact they were already doomed to go ). Ther laughed slightly, pushing down the awkwardness into the back of their throat with a heavy aura that radiated discomfort.
Ronin could practically feel it; well, he knew it. He always pushed, never bothered to stop unless it took their own consciousness and morality into question. But he sighed, wrapped his arms around their waist now to pull them into a tight embrace.
Comfort. The one thing Ther needed and got. God⌠was this hard to endure.
âLet just go. Please.â
Ronin only nodded, opening the car door with a little bow and an eerie grin. His eyes following their every move as they slipped into the passenger seat. It made him giddy almost. Practically bouncing as he walked around and slid into the drivers seat with a smile.
âTo AngelWood we go.â
The whir of the cars engine filled the atmosphere with muffled radio static and small pitted patters of rain hitting the windshield with wipers following behind the white noise that Ther once had been comforted by. Though Ronin drove through the forested streets after their little witch-hunt.
â⌠You okay?â
Roninâs voice was sympathetic, if only a bit. Obviously holding no malice of course.
âYeah. Fine.â
Therâs voice was soft and eloquent as usual, but held a tremor that Ronin dared not comment on.
The air grew silent once more, nothing but static and rain for miles. It was strange how the scent of moist pine and rain with a bit of copper filled the environment. Smooth and cold. Not too cold, just enough to make their bodies stand on edge.
â⌠How much more longer tillâŚ?â
âWeâre there?â Ronin looked over to a little clock in the car, shrugging a bit. âAn hour or two. Just a bit longer⌠you can wait a bit more, canât you?â
âUh⌠yes. I think so.â
Ronin sighed, facing the road once more and skidding the car, a running deer crossing the path.
âFUCK!â
He cursed aloud and heard Therâs screams of warning, the car spinning around and ramming into a tree on the side. The airbags exploding out of their designated spaces and practically breaking all the glass around them. Fortunately, the deer remained unscathed.
Ronin exhaled slightly, huffing as the airbag filled his view.
âShit⌠Ther, you okay?â
He pushed the bag down a bit, the thick smell of copper invading his senses. Though Ronin stayed calm, trying not to panic at the moment.
âRoâŚâ
Their voice was raspy, thick with pain and sadness. One he dreaded for ages.
âTherâŚ?â
He looked over, eyes widening as he scrambled to remove his seatbelt. Cursing loudly and ignoring the glass that pierced his clothes and skin. Ronin didnât want this to be true, fuck. If it was, he would forever feel guilty. More than he usually did.
âStay with me Ther!â
He finally got out, rushing over to the passenger side and gagging at the horror that befell him.
A branch had pierced Therâs chest, straight through their left lung and stained crimson. The flesh torn apart and dug into the wound. It made him want to pray for once in his miserable life that this was a dream. All he could do was take their hands, pleading for them to stay alive as he tried his best to keep his composure. Tears streaming down his face as he screamed out their name.
âTher, FUCK! Just stay-â
Therâs voice fell silent as they shushed him, a small smile on their face as they leaned their head back. Their touch growing limp.
âThank you Ronin. For indulging me⌠just this once.â

The Devilâs In The Name.
âFuck!â
You cursed aloud, kicking at the puddle of water on this hell called Earth. You were placed here on account that you were one of the demons tasked with checking on Earth with an assigned angel. But of course, there was no angel in sight and you were stuck on Earth while it rained. The alley being the only safe haven around that you could possibly stay in.
Your tail flicked at the pelting rain, hiding under a cloak that you had come with. The only shelter for your shivering body which didnât seem accustomed to the cold just yet. It made you shudder at the thought of never being able to find warmth.
What was odd however was the sound of thuds and steps in the direction of the entrance. Your eyes squinting to see someone with faux horns and a weapon of some sort draped across his shoulders.
Your eyes stayed fixated as he lowered the weapon onto an âenemyâwho only seemed to sob and cry at the thought of being hurt. Soon, sounds of heavy bashing, guts spilled across brick with a thick crimson that pooled under them. White and grey brain matter splayed across in a beautiful display.
Grotesque and amusing to your slit eyes.
The man in question who had taken the persons life now stood straight, nudging the body with a spiked boot and a devious gleam in his eyes. It made your spine straighten as your tail seemed to wag even more.
The smell of blood taunted as you seemed to drool. Eyes fixated now on the body that laid against the wall in a visceral pool of their own blood.
âHahâŚâ
The craving was hard to resist, your tail hitting some tin trash can that you stood by.
âHuh?â
The manâs head snapped over at your direction, his eyes squinting as well to make out your shadow. Only seeing the tail wagging and some light that shone on your feet.
âFuck, now I have to get rid of you?â
You immediately retreated back into the darker parts of the alley making the man groan in frustration as he kicked a nearby box and started stalking your way. Eyes seemingly scouring for you in any shadow.
Then he froze.
Sharp, piercing, orange eyes stared at him. Glowing in the dark with slits for pupils. Your breath seemingly heavy and needy for something he couldnât quiet place. It was as if he immediately knew he wasnât dealing with someone human.
âHah? The hellâŚâ
He approached with walls put up so high and thick, they could easily crush you if you even entered his presence. It made you shiver at the thought of his own flesh in your maw, metallic and heavy in taste.
âNoâŚâ
You murmured, making the man roll his eyes as he finally was close enough to make out some of your features.
Your eyes were orange, your body seemingly frail, clothes tattered, the cloak over you had been soaked from rain, and a red rosary hanging from your neck. It made him cringe.
You finally showed your full face, a single horn on the left of your forehead with the other seemingly broken off. It almost made him pity you⌠yet you were a demon he knew he had to learn more about.
âJesus, I wonât hurt you. Donât worry your pretty lilâ head.â
He chuckled, voice raspy and deep as he examined your switch emotions.
âIâm Ronin⌠you?â
You shook your head, eyes downcast as Ronin sighed and placed the bar against a wall. His hands moving to shrug off his jacket and drape it over your shoulders.
â⌠Whyâre you being soâŚâ
âNice? Hah, Iâve had my fair share of shitty situations. God knows what he did to me of course.â Roninâs laugh was now bitter and resentful, not of you but of God. âIâll call you tangerine. It suits you.â He tapped under his eye, implying his own trauma and your color⌠it made you oddly comfortable.
âOh.â
Ronin sighed, noticing your drool from a mile away as you stared at the body in the distance. âWell⌠eat?â
Your head shot up, tilting your head slightly with a confused gaze. Your hands trembling as you lowered your cloak and made your way out. His eyes following as he immediately ran when you could to eat.
Taking the body in your own hands and eating with loud crunches and moist noises. Bones breaking and meat tearing. After all, demons arenât fed as well as angels or humans.
âDamn, you look hungrierâŚâ Ronin laughed, deep and eerie. Making you shudder.
âWell⌠guess I found a new disposal method.â

Mechanical Arrays
This project took too much out of him, grease was smudged on his coveralls with the school emblem on the back. His cheek smudged as well. Hell, people would tell you that he wasnât one for being openly muscular or âalphaâmale [ though he could easily pass as one ]. Ronin honestly didnât care for titles or anything, he was just there to finish this project.
It was dumb, tiring but he loved it. It was his passion, his life's work after Angelwood afterall.
The garage entrance could be heard opening though he never looked up to even check if the person was someone he knew or a teacher. All he heard was someone plant a duffel bag down onto the station next to his and the mechanical whirring of a machine lifting a car up to show the underside of it.
Ronin peeked over, only noticing the back of some tall and muscular man with his hair tied up in some bun that could only be labeled as messy. The man's auburn hair shining brightly through the lights of the garage. In all honesty, Angel would rave about how healthy it looked. But did Ronin care? No.
So Ronin went back to work. The two quietly do their jobs in the noise of whirring machinery, soft clunks or loud, and soft footsteps from whenever they move.
Ronin honestly couldnât have been more happy. He got someone who was quiet and kept to himself, didnât get into his bubble, everything in all honesty. But something burned in the back of his mind with a quiet hum. His hands diligently worked to replace the battery of the car in front of him.
The man at the next station glanced at Ronin, noticing how he was working with a curt smile as he went back to cleaning the rust off the car's underside. The man wasnât one who spoke to others like Ronin who usually spoke to his classmates to tease or jeer. In fact, he was the borderline opposite. Silent and always in the back with a listening ear and a watchful eye.
No one honestly knew he was there until he would respond during roll calls, questions that he knew, the usual. Ronin didnât really pay much mind until he glanced over and felt something burning in his chest. The man was attractive, hell, that was probably an understatement. But he immediately shook it off and forced himself to think about his project.
But his mind kept wandering to the man. Hands shaky as his eyes squinted at the bolts he fiddled with, not even hearing the footsteps near him.
âHey.â
Ronin jumped slightly, cursing under his breath as his head snapped over to the man. Eyes widening as he scrambled to get a rag to clean himself off which only amused the other with a soft smirk.
âDo I make you nervous?â
God that voice and god those eyes. Blue and piercing. It made Ronin crumble under his gaze which was very unusual for the man. Hell, he usually was the one doing this to others. It was odd, but very welcome.
âSorryâŚâ he murmured. âWas jusâ distracted. Sorry hahâŚâ
The man nodded, smiling as he held a hand out.
âNoticed, well hi. Iâm Freude.â
âWeird name, Ronin.â
Freude chuckled lightly as the two shook hands, noticing that Roninâs grip was firm but not too tight. It was oddly comforting. But then they pulled away, Ronin subconsciously longing for more of the touch as his shoulders slumped.
âWorking on the phaeton?â
Ronin glanced at the car the âgodâ was working on. Freude nodded and placed his hands on his hips with pride.
âYup. Itâs a beauty in all honesty. Mechanical marvel.â
Ronin picked up the slight accent on his voice, either British or Australian. Maybe even a mix of both. But all he could respond with was a nod and a glance at his own car. A small mini cooper which was assigned to him.
âMine isnât much.â
Ronin eyed the chipping blue paint, the âoldâ machinery, the somewhat cracked windshield. It was a mess but oddly beautiful that he had the chance to make this car beautiful again.
âItâs pretty banged up but⌠itâs still beautiful nonetheless.â
âI could say the same âbout you.â
Ronin immediately looked over at Freude, his eyes widening slightly and his cheeks dusting a gentle pink.
âUm⌠thanks?â
Freude chuckled slightly, the usually quiet man now had a new light to him. A flirt and a very nice guy. Ronin wasnât sure what to do, so he simply straightened up and smirked as usual.
âAwe, whatâre you going to do? Make out with me or some shit?â
Ronin barked out a laugh though he mentally dreamed of it. After all, who wouldnât want to take a hit at some hot man who seemed like some good kisser. Ronin took a minute, laughing as he leaned against the car.
âWhy? Would you like me to?â
The mechanic immediately froze, slowly looking up at him with now bright red cheeks. Ronin groaned quietly as he looked away to hide his red cheeks.
âFuck off.â
âThat wasnât a no.â
The taller one laughed, Ronin immediately looked at him with a glare and rolled his eyes with a smirk.
âThen? Come onnnn, are you a pussy or what?â
Freude immediately chuckled, moving in almost swift motion and grabbing a gentle hold of Roninâs waist, his face now close to Roninâs.
âWatch out hun⌠You might just get what you ask for⌠but Iâll indulge you, just this once.â
Ronin practically melted into his touch, a soft groan leaving him as his lips curled into a smile. The two shared a quiet gaze as if to confirm that this was what they wanted.
â... Alright.â
Freude muttered, closing the gap between each of the two and kissing him gently. Ronin shared the kiss, basking in the feeling until the two sped up. Now more ravenous and harsh than what they had started with.
Soft moans, shuffling movements, gentle touches. The intimacy was shared between the two. It was hot, the garage wasnât helping in that case at all but jesus did it feel so good to know that Ronin wasnât disgusting in this way. Especially when he was in grease covered coveralls and sweat.
But god was this man so perfect.
Freudeâs tongue slipped into the kiss which Ronin accepted with the utmost pride.
Ronin groaned softly into the kiss, the two sharing it for just a few more minutes until pulling away with a thin string of saliva separating the two. Soft pants, gentle breaths, and chuckles escaping the two.
âDamn⌠youâre good huh?â
âNot so bad, better than I thought you were.â Ronin chuckled.

Lost Little Tart.
The baker, Arian, stared at the wall for quite a bit as the soft ticks from the clock filled his senses. In all honesty, he missed Cipher. She was his friend, his saving grace, his muse. The one person who understood his struggles and the one he fell in love with all those years ago.
She used to be his everything.
But now, here he was. Waiting for his partner who wasnât her. It was upsetting to know ( at least he thought he knew ) that she didnât love him the way he loved her. It retrospect, he was being dramatic. They havenât spoken for a week and it was upsetting for the both of them. Arian wouldnât know until she wanted to speak to him again.
ââŚIâm fucking dumb.â
The baker cussed quietly, his eyes darting towards the apartment door for his partner in hopes that theyâd come home. Sure, heâd been thinking of them like they were her. But they werenât Cipher. They werenât ever going to be Cipher. Not at allâŚ
He tapped his foot quietly, closing his eyes slightly as he exhaled. It was dumb, this was stupid and ignorant. Right? He was being ignorant to her needs that Arian so desperately wanted to satisfy.
Suddenly, heâs snapped out of his thoughts by the kitchen timer blaring through the room. It made him groan as he stood and turned it off, walking over to the kitchen and slipping his oven mitts on. He wasnât thinking, not at all. But Cipher hadnât come home in awhile. After all, they shared this apartment. The hacker was probably staying at Cosgroveâs house at the edge of the city.
Hell, he should call.
He pulled out the tray of cupcakes, piercing each with a toothpick to see how much more time they needed, if any. But of course, they were perfect. Pink and plush like soft pillows. His partnerâs ( and subsequently Cipherâs ) favorite flavor. Pink strawberry⌠the cupcakes that brought her and Arian together.
He wanted to throw up.
It made him nauseous how much he missed her, her laugh, her eyes, her hands, everything. Every little fucking thing. It kind of made him cringe since, well, he wasnât one for romance. Hell, it was usually just a fuck and go. But now? Arian was down bad. And god did he want to be hers⌠now he had replaced her with someone else who was just a cut and dry copy her.
Then, bang. The door swung open.

There stood Cipher, her eyes puffy from crying and her hair all disheveled. His brows furrowed as he finished placing the cupcakes on the tray and rushed over.

You stared at the coord you had made yourself for the next day. The mannequin sported your petticoat and purse for the next day. Dressing pretty and very nice was your forte after all. Even if it did garner unwanted criticism from so-called ânormalâ people. It made you happy to dress in frilly skirts, ruffled blouses, cute bonnets. The works for your average sweet style that everyone either loved or criticized ( for whatever reason⌠)and it made you question whatever was going on through their minds as well.
You hesitate for a second, hanging up the dress and putting away the jewelry for the night. Until your phone pings with a notification and ultimately throws off your insecure thoughts for the moment.
You pick up the phone, eyes narrowed as you stared at the text that the man you who had fallen for ( which you questioned why Ronin had put his name as â Thy Divine Devil â ) spammed your phone.

You frown a bit, the word pretty sticking out like a sore thumb. In all honesty, you never bothered to correct him so how would he even know? All he knew was your identity change and your identity struggles. Heâd help with the process, buying you your binder was a plus you didnât know you needed and a man who knew how to inject testosterone to satisfy your euphoric needs?

Ronin kept spamming, your frown evident as you shot him a text with a exasperated sigh.

You watched as his username popped up and slowly typed. Your impatience grew as you planted yourself down onto your bed with a quiet tap of your foot. Nose scrunched as your dysphoria feuded with your mentality. Hands gripping your phone as his message came through.

Your heart clenched as your throat tightened with a gentle tug of your vocal cords. Your voice didnât even want to leave as you opened your mouth to say something into the random void of your goddamn room.

You muster up the word, immediately jumping up to get dressed into some random clothes you had strewn about. Eyes alert and teary as you shrugged on some hoodie that Ronin had gave you some time ago. Itâs material plush and gentle on the body. Black in color with a skull on its front.
It honestly screamed Ronin.
Your hand traced the pattern, sighing as you slipped on your shoes and grabbed your keys.
You usually dressed up, even for something simple as this ( meeting Ronin at his usual alleyway ) and even doing a minimal amount of makeup. But you shrugged off the heavy feeling, the dysphoria practically screaming as you got into the car that Ronin had fixed a few months prior to your âaccidentalâ meeting.
You parked a few blocks away from the spot, scrambling out and locking the car before jogging to the alleyway. Your eyes darted around slightly as you made your way down the pathway. Eyes drifting to a specific brick wall that the two of you had met at.
â⌠huh?â
Ronin slumped against the wall, grinning as he noticed your steps.
âHey darlinâ⌠how are-â
He cuts himself off, his eyes drifting over your body with a furrowed brow and a small frown which was immediately replaced with a smile.
âLazy day?â
âYou can say that.â
Ronin obviously wasnât satisfied with the answer, arms crossing as he approached and looked you dead in the eye. Noticing the redness, the puffy texture around them, and the fake smile you usually pulled on bad dysphoria days with a subtle grunt.
âWhatâs wrong?â
You shift a bit, rocking on the heels of your feet as you shrugged slightly and looked away. Your brows furrowed a bit as he leaned to meet your facial level.
âNothing⌠just a bad dysphoria day.â
Immediately, he scowled. His arms suddenly wrapping around you in a comforting hug as he whispered nothing but affirmations to you. It made all the pent up emotions in your body spill out onto the floor. Soft sobs and quiet chokes escaping as you reciprocated the hug and sobbed into his chest.
âIâm not normal, why canât I be normalâŚâ
Ronin sighs, pressing a gentle kiss against the top of your head. His warmth, inviting and comforting as he whispered into your ear.

Ronin wouldnât ever admit that he had gotten too attached. After all, he never once spoke out about the struggles of being a archaic figureâs descendant who had been cursed to bear the struggles of their ancestor. But all he thought was how stupid he looked.
He eyed himself in the mirror, wings splayed out from behind him with a judgmental expression. He hated his wings, but at least he could hide them. It didnât feel right in all honesty; how they tucked under his chest and practically melted into his skin.
Sometimes it hurt. Sometimes it didnât.
But Ronin never cared for that. He just wanted to be normal like everyone else. Beautiful and praised by the masses⌠something he never was. At least to himself.
He always hated how waxy his wings were. How they ruffled up when they were out and he was angry. How much he hated being the way he was. How he ignored the signs of burning from the goddamn sun that plagued his every step.
Ronin knew he was different, everyone said he was different. And gods did he hate it, he hated it so goddamn much. It drove him insane at this point.
Maybe Angel was right, that heâd always be trapped in his own mind and spiral of self-denial and his aching anxieties that screamed into his mind that he was being forced to be the way he was. All for some ancestor who probably didnât even care about some random person who got cursed for their existence. It made Ronin mentally retch.
He folded his wings back in, wrapping them around to melt the waxy feathers into his skin. It stung, practically searing his skin as he hid all that was him⌠it made him feel oddly guilty. Even if it wasnât much, it didnât feel right.
Either way, Ronin shook it off with a soft sigh. His gaze on the floor as he shrugged on his shirt and signature jacket. Adjusting the rainbows on his wrists ( even if he was still lying to himself, he wouldnât know why ) and fixing his beanie onto his head.
He had removed the horns ages ago when he got his wings, it didnât feel right with them. Hell, it felt rude in all honesty. Even if it was for his own sake, people saw him as something to be feared. ( Even if he was a murderer, it wasnât a good feeling. )
But Ronin shrugged the feeling off, looking over at a framed photo of him and a person he had known in Angelwood. Long before everything. Long before they diedâŚ

You smile as he helps you take off your loose fitting shirt, eyeing your bandages with a look that screamed care and worry. When he didnât find anything wrong with the compression bandages ( ones that he had put on simply thirty minutes ago ), he only nodded and laid you back down fully.
Ronin raised your head with another pillow, his eyes narrowing to see your expression and hummed in satisfaction when he noticed you were already drifting off.

His voice is laced with a cocky tone but obvious to you that it held some disdain. It oddly made you want more thank you realized. You brushed it off, letting him continue to talk.
