2017 — MAGICIANS RULE THE WORLD.
Eighteen years ago, Black Arthur and his circle of magicians made a deal with the demon Hnikarr, granting it an eternal human form in exchange for its power. Tired of the struggle for warmth, it had stopped answering summons centuries before, but this one it accepted, intrigued by the idea. The child Black Arthur had with his wife, Olivia, was sacrificed to the demon, and it grew into its power in their care.
Once Hnikarr was capable of controlling its magic, it drew its two longtime companions, the demons Liannan and Anzu, to Earth and granted them body after body. Other demons came as well, scattering over the planet in search of mortal flesh to claim as their own. Black Arthur rules over the world from a location unknown, no longer satisfied to remain in the castle that Hnikarr resides in, and the demons do as they wish.
This group verse takes place in England. Technology is still as advanced as it is in the real world, but there is little use for it. A rebellion is brewing in the shadows, led by Cynthia Davies. When rebels are caught, they are sent to live as servants in the demon dwelling, a castle used mostly by the demon Hnikarr.

In the world this takes place in, there are only three species — magicians, humans and demons. Magicians are humans who are born with power, usually passed down to them from their bloodline. There are magicians outside of the Obsidian Circle, but they don’t possess as much power as those within it. Demons reside in an alternate dimension, and are incapable of speech unless the human they possess on Earth allows them to speak. Most demons must change bodies often, given that the stress of fighting between the two souls tears the body apart within two weeks of possession.
Characters are either aligned with the rebellion, the magicians, or are neutral. This alignment can change over the course of the group verse.
