Some Parent Raine headcanons!
I was asked about what kind of headcanons I have about Raine being a parent, so here I am doing just that!
So I am going to give ya all the HC-s I have about the topic, by the way, these are only about the canon characters and have nothing to do with my AU or Melody (there is already a whole fanfic about that) so here ya will get only step/fosterparent Raine stuff (so Luz, King, but if you want I can make a part two about the Batts, Hunter or other kids, I do have one head canon about Gus)
First: When Raine first moved in with Eda, they tried to make themself small and were always trying to stay out of the way as they were worried about intruding on Eda and her kids. They were very worried that Luz and King wouldn't like them, so they tried desperately to please them, but at the same time kept their distance for fear that they would overdo it.
A few weeks after the fall of Belos, Luz and King organized a family movie night and they told Raine about it on the fly like "It's family movie night at seven today" and Raine understood it as "Okay, they want to spend time with their mom and the rest of their loved ones, I'll make sure I don't stay in their way".
In the evening, when it was seven o'clock and Luz, King, Camila, Vee, and Eda went to the living room (Luz and King had already prepared everything), Luz asked Eda where Raine was, but Eda hadn't seen them for hours. The kids went to look for them and found Raine playing their violin on top of the tower, and things went something like this:
Luz: Hey, Raine! The movie night is about to begin, you can play your beautiful music later!

A little later in the living room, while everyone is watching the movie, Eda discovers that Raine, whom she is cuddling, is crying quietly, silent tears slowly flowing as their mind is filled with thoughts like "they actually wanted me here."
Second: The different ways Raine tried to please these kids with were just some little acts of service, like:
Thinking about them when they went shopping for food and stuff, and always bringing something back for them.
Washing Luz's favorite clothes when they got dirty, for example Luz's hoodie got dirty during the renovations so she just left it lying around thinking she would wash it tomorrow or take it to Camilla, but by the morning it had been washed, dried and steamed and was waiting for her by her bed (she didn't know who was doing it for a long time and assumed it was Eda)
Packed lunches for them, despite the fact that they themself were constantly busy with work and political problems. And when the kids went out to do something, they used their pickpocketing skills learned from Eda to sneak some money into Luz's pockets or into King's fur without them noticing.
Third: They would bond with King over food. Raine loves cooking, and King loves eating. After Raine moved in, they became the full-time cook in the family because Eda always loses her focus when cooking, and things often went wrong because of it (think of fire and Hooty being the only one who gets fed in the end). Raine pays attention to every little detail and is able to make healthy food and feed it to King without him even noticing.
King: It looks suspicious! It's not vegetables, is it?
King: I don't believe you
Raine: How about we make a deal that if you find vegetables in there or you don't like it, you choose what I will make for us for the next week?
A little later, after King has eaten half the pot alone, Luz goes to Raine and asks: What was in that food?

King and Raine would bake cookies together too
Fourth: At first, when the children needed affection or help (after nightmares, for example), Raine always looked for Eda or Camila to help, but slowly King started to stop them and just climbed into their arms. And after a while, it was whoever was closer to him at the time; it didn't matter if it was Eda or Raine, if he needed a hug, he would get his hug.
Things went a little slower with Luz (first of all she is older and she doesn't live with them full time) her and Raine's relationship started as friends at first and then quietly more in a parent-child style and after a few months Raine would call Luz their daughter when asked or e.g. "Oh, these are for my daughter", "Sorry I have to leave work early today, I have to go and help my daughter", but I don't think Luz or King would ever actually call them 'Parent' or 'Nini' but when it comes to talking about Eda and Raine both at the same time, they would sometimes say "Our/my parents"
Fifth: Luz and Raine bond by reading books together. Luz brings various Human Realm books for them to read together, and Raine introduces Luz to their own favorite books from their childhood. And yes, Raine knows everything there is to know about Good Witch Azura and even went on a con with Luz and her friends once dressed up as one of the characters.
They would also help Luz with making her cosplays, as they have some sewing and DIY skills.
Sixth: Raine is not very open with the kids about their problems (Raine's own), they always listen to Luz and King's and give advice and support but never talk to them about what happened to them when they fought Belos and what scars and permanent mental wounds they have from it. Their opinion is that children should not worry about adults, and they deserve the opportunity not to be burdened by it.
On some occasions, Luz would notice things and ask about them worriedly, but Raine would always answer, "Don't worry, sweetheart, I'm okay. Eda is on it already. I have my help,"
Raine only started to be more open with them about such things when the two became adults and needed advice, and Raine's trauma had given them experience that could help.
Seven: Raine gifted Luz and Amity a house to start living together in. It was Luz's graduation gift. Basically, Raine gave them their own old house that they had bought for themself after breaking up with Eda (my headcanon is that Raine and Eda built the Owl House together, and after they broke up, Raine left it to Eda in its entirety). Now back with Eda, they didn't use the house anymore, but they kept it in good condition with the idea that one day Luz or one of the Batts would have it.
Luz cried so much and hugged them so hard that Raine was sure their ribs would break
Eight: Raine is extremely kind, reasonable, and attentive to the kids, and Eda finds it hot. None of her exes treated King well, and now every time she sees Raine playing with the kids, teaching them music, or helping them with things, she falls in love with them a little more every time.
Nine: Raine is a great cuddler, and they don't care if it's Eda in their arms, King, who needs attention and affection, or Luz, who needs a shoulder to cry on; they are always there, and everyone has a habit of always falling asleep on them. Raine would just hum a soft tune or just talk to them, and slowly they would fall asleep, and not a single nightmare would bother them during that sleep.
Ten: Raine learned to drive a car so they could pick up Luz and Vee from school on days when Camila couldn't, and the weather was too bad for walking/cycling. Eda tried to learn too, but Camila forbade her from driving after she had to take her car to the dealer twice in one week.
Sometimes the kids would bribe Raine to take them to places, and once they got pulled over by the cops, and they needed to flee from them, as Raine didn't have any id or a driver's license. It was a whole mess, and the kids were marked kidnapped as 'some strange blue-haired character was driving around with teenagers, that driver had no idea they needed a driver's license or an id and they didn't react when we said 'sir' to them and just looked around like they were trying to figure out who we were talking about! We think they were under the influence!'
Raine doesn't understand the human realm at all and finds its cultural and political situation disturbing, but for Luz's sake, they are willing to go there and ignore people who call them 'sir' and ask them what hair dye they use.
Summary: Raine is very active in their role as a parent, but they do not demand or seek that title. They would be willing to start a new war for the sake of their kids and their entire family.
And even after a long time has passed, they still sometimes get emotional because they can't believe their luck that, despite everything, they somehow became part of this amazing family.
