❝i’m going to warn you once: touch ardeth, and i will burn you to ASHES without a second thought.❞ she didn’t bother to keep the biting edge from her voice, a fierce protectiveness ushering the threat out of her mouth. she was aware her hands had clenched into tight fists, but she’d nearly mastered control over the fire within. slowly, she flattened her hands against her legs, biting her bottom lip slightly to remind herself of that control.

Apep stifled out a laugh(or a hiss, if you will) and a fanged grin graced his dark features. Fire. Oh he hated fire, for he was a sea serpent of the celestial ocean. However, he'd been set in flames more times than he could ever count by the goddess Wadjet, whom was a serpent of the sky and his opposite. All the flames could do was burn out his physical form and possibly cause him to meander around in the guise of a serpent's shadow.
❝Oh PLEASE, he's too easy. I go for the bigger meals, darling — the ones that actually mean something to someone. That man has no family and only himself. He would not be missed and it wouldn't be a big deal if he were dead. I like to see people in ruin, not slightly disappointed.❞ }

HOLY HECK I LOVE THIS
"I'm Carter Kane — part-time high school freshman, part-time magician, full-time worrier about all the Egyptian gods and monsters who are constantly trying to kill me. Okay, that last part is an exaggeration. Not all the gods want me dead. Just A LOT of them."

I’ve seen entire species destroyed, civilizations left in ruins. I’ve witnessed solar systems vanish in the twinkling of an eye. I’ve seen things that would freeze your blood. So don’t threaten me. Don’t ever threaten me.

❝Do I look like the "Egyptian god of magical water" to you? I think I should point you in the direction of Sobek. Though I wouldn't advise drinking HIS "magic water" since it is pretty much his sweat. The guy has a problem.❞ }
⊰ ☥ ⊱——— ❝ Oh looky here, I see your still alive and kicking—or should I say slithering? Oh you know the same-o—a little chaos here and a little chaos there.
Good ol’ times.
I’m surprised you could even fit in the meat suit you have there.❞

❝I know, it's amazing isn't it? As much as I dislike being stuck in such a miniscule vessel it helps me get around. Oh how I long to unleash my real body onto this fragile world — imagine the pandemonium and the fear I'd instill in these little maggots we preside over.❞ }
She had been more than a little puzzled by his reply, a retort – a very brief scolding even – but seemingly without the usual snarkiness. Without the barbs about how she was really off her game today. That she’d dragged behind him by two or three incidents each time until now. About how ‘do I really have to slow it down so you can keep up? What kind of goddess is that?’
Then he’d ‘pulled the chair out’ for her and she’d been even more puzzled and even slightly suspicious… But also curious as to why he is acting… not very much like him… At least, not what she has become accustomed to…
Yet, perhaps against her better instincts, she takes the indicated seat though her eyes continue to track him as he walks over and as he sits down.
Of course, his words send off more warning bells ‘why I led you here.’ Being led anywhere by Apep is seldom a good sign… But, she is also the goddess of justice and she will hear him out, even if it comes back to bite her… Hopefully not literally…
Dark gaze still trained on her uncle, she raises an eyebrow, wariness likely evident in her expression.
"Yes… I suppose that I am. You seldom ‘wait around’ for me…"
{☉ —
❝Okay, look, stop being so paranoid for one moment and listen to me. Please? I'm being genuinely sincere right now — don't make me change my mind about bringing you here.❞
Another scolding. It felt weird when he spoke like this, for normally he'd encourage people to throw shade or speak condescendingly to him just to give himself a reason to insult them right back. Today, however, he wasn't having any of it. There was no pep in his step, no snark in his remarks, and for now his whole demeanor had practically changed — but that didn't mean he was a different being altogether. Apep adjusted himself in his seat and bit his lip, eyes downcast while he tapped his index finger on the tabletop.
❝I'm tired. I know that sounds odd coming from me, but I really am tired. Do you wish to know why I wanted you to come here? To talk. I just need someone to talk to and I know that I can —❞ He paused, looking up at her with a frown. He could barely say the words but they eventually slipped out, ❝Trust you. Do you think for just a little while you and I can set aside our differences and just... Speak to one another civilly? We haven't done that in ages.❞ }

Ra, what a day it had been. It seemed as though as soon as one instance of imbalance had been sorted, another would manifest. More than anything, she’s seemed to be trailing just behind her uncle all day, putting out the fires, but never quite catching up…
Until now, of course, as she sees him.
She’s uncertain whether she has arrived in time to stop another incident… Or if he had just decided to linger until she arrived…
Regardless of which it is, she wipes the weariness from her expression and bearing as she approaches him, pulling her coat tighter around her to ward off the cold.
"Fancy meeting you here, uncle.”
{☉ —
❝Save yourself the rudeness, Ma'at. I only wish to talk.❞
Apep had been causing minor disturbances, like a fire hydrant bursting or a tree limb falling on someone's dog. Usually he'd cause bigger problems such as kitchen fires, lightning striking a tree, a car hitting another, or other freak accidents that could possibly result in a person getting hurt or even killed. Yet today he just didn't have the heart and it showed that the serpent was putting little effort into his little "freak accidents" — and that signified that something was off. VERY off. He had taken the time to lure her to this exact spot, and it was just a little coffee shop in this little town the two had ended up in.
Apep motioned toward a chair, and the seat slid from the table without him even having to touch it. That was one of this most favorite powers and he normally used it for terrible things, but he'd decided he had enough of that for one day. He waited for his niece to take her seat before he walked over to his own, plopping down in the chair and scooting closer to the table. He laid his chin on one of his hands, the other one lazily draped over the edge of the table's surface.
❝You're probably wondering why I led you here, no?❞ }

❝ What on this world is powdered cheese like? Does it taste at all identical to the natural kind?
{☉ —
❝It tastes just like real cheese if not BETTER! I am so happy. This is the first time I've been genuinely happy since the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. I may not have been a Roman but I had fun watching all those little people get covered in ashes like the statues they so beautifully crafted. I hated Romans. Then again, all Egyptian deities did. They invaded OUR country and stole OUR culture. Hell, they even declared Isis one of their goddesses! It was the first mutual hate I have ever shared with any of the deities in my Pantheon and all of us were so happy when Rome's empire finally fell.❞ }
