Hearing the man laugh was nice. It wasn’t a harsh sound, something lighter and pleasing. Though he was rather loose with his opinions on most things he was definitely more keen on sounds. When he felt the other take his hand he turned around and started to make his way through the crowd. It called for the need to echolate frequently, but it wasn’t something he a stranger to. There had been more dire needs to constantly see his surroundings, and this would hopefully be less stressful than the need to fight for his life.

When he found a pocket of empty space near the middle of the dance floor he stilled. “Relaxing is a big key here, signore,” he said as he guided the other’s hand into the starting position while his other hand reached forward to rest against the man’s side. “I will not move fast, but the movement will come to you soon.” He liked to think that dancing wasn’t all that hard. It was just the basis of trust between the two people partook in the action coupled with the tempo of the music that most struggled with. Lorenzo started to move slowly, staying true to his word as he did his best to guide Sesen’s movements along with his own.

Sesen let out another embarrassed laugh when Lorenzo reminded him to relax but it was cut short when he found himself in the starting position. His eyes darted from their hands to Lorenzo’s face and then to each side to double-check that there was no one about to run into them - despite his sneaking suspicion that Lorenzo would be on top of that as well. “Okay...” he breathed out and placed his free hand on the vampire’s shoulder and didn’t realize that he’d tensed back up until Lorenzo gently started to move.

“Oh! Oh... oh.. sorry, okay, relaxing...” it was a bit of a halting start but Sesen took another breath and focused on how Lorenzo was moving. It didn’t take very long at all for him to feel that Lorenzo was going to guide him and that he didn’t need to worry about what to do. With a wide smile, Sesen looked up at Lorenzo, “You’re really good at this...”

The quickest way to his get his full attention, no matter how shitty or reluctant he was feeling at the moment, was to mention plants. Right when the stranger went off about the park and the forest anyone could see some light start to fill back into his eyes. He stood a bit more straight and he actually seemed like he wanted to be having this conversation right now. It was a miracle in work, but he was more focused on thinking about Briarwood Park and The Alcove now.

There was even a small tinge of a smile that came to his lips as he recalled the calming scents. The pleasant breeze against his fur or clothes and the smell of fragrant flowers that never failed to lull him into a nap. Yeah, it was safe to say that he had been there before and that he loved it all. “-he amount of species and range they have is impressive and authentic,” he agreed with a light shrug from his shoulders. “-ot enough going on that there are bees around.” Now that pulled his lips into a bigger smile. Bees were right next to how much he loved plants. They were important, a keystone species and widely misunderstood or looked down upon, but they meant a lot to him personally and there was nothing that could make him chance his mind about it.

It was subtle, very subtle but Sesen was hyper-focused on Guy and he saw the exact moment when he’d piqued his interest. It bolstered his courage enough to take a little step forward, he didn’t even realize he was doing it as he nodded excitedly. “Oh, the bees are the most wonderful part! Did you see all of the different species of clover they have? Right near the river there’s at least.. at least five that I saw!”

If there was something that Sesen could talk about forever and not get bored of, it was plants. To be able to talk about plants with someone who had been so influential in his education was just the added cherry on top. He still had a tiny inkling that he was being selfish but Guy had very nearly smiled so it seemed to him that it wasn’t an entirely unwelcome conversation.

He might be blind but he wasn’t deaf. Actually, he wasn’t even blind completely since he could use echolocation in order to get a gauge of his surroundings, but not many people knew that and he liked to keep it that way. “If the lead is good then the other should not fall or step on feet,” he said as his own way of accepting the offer.

It wasn’t like he had anything else better to do other than to just drink and stand off to the side. Plus, this was a time where he could test and see if he still had it in him. The rest of his drink was finished and he looked around for a trashcan, which just so happened to be near him out of a stroke of luck. With the cup thrown away he held out of his hand as a silent offer to lead them both out to the center of the room to dance.

Lorenzo’s words made Sesen stop and think. It seemed like he was saying yes but he wasn’t entirely sure but it thrilled him to put the whole dancing thing in perspective. It was two people moving as one, they needed to be in sync together, one leading and one following. He didn’t have much experience with it, only back before the fog forced him into the sanctuary, but he remembered watching his parents dance and it was always so beautiful.

When Lorenzo tossed his cup and held out his hand, Sesen couldn’t help but laugh happily as he accepted and started towards the dance floor. Would Lorenzo lead? Sesen was suddenly unsure but what the vampire had said about the lead being good seemed to him to mean that he would. It would make the most sense since he had more experience but there was also the whole blind thing that made Sesen hesitate. “Uhm...” he held Lorenzo’s hand a little tighter, not even sure how to start.

Reconnect

A few days after the Masquerade “incident”, Sesen ventured out on one of his usual walks so he could soak up some energy from the artificial sunlight. He meandered lazily, no where in particular to go, face tilted up just slightly to get a better angle. Turning a corner, he saw a familiar flash of white hair about a block ahead and he instantly smiled at the recognition. It was Avie who he hadn’t seen since the familiar left the masquerade in a panic. Sesen’s smile wavered at the memory but he picked up his pace a little and called out when he was a reasonable distance away. “Avie! Hey! Hi!” he raised his hand in greeting as he came in for a proverbial landing a few feet away from where Avie himself was situated. @snowyavie

See, this was why he preferred to teach instead of just being stuck with the job as a researcher or botanist. His love for the flora was endless, of course it was, but being cooped up in a man made building that reeked of sterilized metal and chemicals made his gut churn. It wasn’t a big issue to be in a science lab, or Alliance Medical in this case, for a few minutes, but once the time starts to push at half an hour he starts to get restless. And nothing good comes out of him being restless. There were only two things he did when he energy to spend and no way to vent it. He either shifted into a bear or a sugar glider. That was it.

Today he had been visiting Alliance Medical because someone had called him in. He was well credited but guy always ignored that. He didn’t like the fame or popularity his work had gotten ever since he had graduated college and gotten his masters. The only thing he could vaguely like was how it educated others. The attention from it though? Not so much. After Guy spoke to one of the botanists he was more than eager to get out of here. The smell of synthetic materials were already threatening to drive him insane and he wanted to do nothing more than to shove his face into some flowers or even good old grass.

He had his hands in his pockets and his steps in the sure way to get the hell out of here, but when he saw someone wave at him he looked over. The second he heard his name he could feel his interest deflate a little. So his work was well known by this person and he was a fan. Just how could this afternoon get any better? “-eah, came here not too long ago.” Well, it was long enough for him to establish a daily routine but he couldn’t remember the specifics.

It was abundantly clear that Guy wasn’t as keen on meeting Sesen as Sesen was meeting Guy but it didn’t deter the druid one bit. He just smiled wider and nibbled on his bottom lip before blurting out some more things, complete stream of consciousness, absolutely unable to stop himself.

“Oh, that’s great, that’s really just, wow, have you been to Briarwood park yet? Or the Alcove? The Alcove is my favourite, they’ve got a whole ecosystem setup there and there’s even a meadow, not really hidden, of course, but it’s really nice and there are so many different kinds of trees and flowers and shrubs and it’s almost like actually being outside again!” He knew he should back off a bit and he swore to himself that he would but right this absolute second he didn’t want to. It was selfish to keep the man when he clearly wanted to leave but what was a fanboi to do?

Sesen was careful not to crowd Guy at least, keeping rooted to the spot he’d been standing and only turning towards him when he’d stopped. He was pretty sure he’d read somewhere that Guy was a shapeshifter but he wasn’t 100% sure, not that it matter in the least, but Sesen had a sudden desire to know everything all at once.

Lorenzo just nodded back at that without any sort of scrutiny or opinion about the other’s choices. Another sip was taken from his cup and he could see how Sesen thought so highly of the punch. It was easy to get into and he wasn’t exactly the sort of man to go out of his way to spike it. At least not on most occasions. The rim of his cup was lowered from his lips when he was asked if he could dance. A thoughtful look came over his face for a second before he nodded again. “Yes, I do.” He had been raised in a fairly wealthy family back in Tuscany so he knew how to dance within the ballroom. Only God knows how long it’s been since he’s set his feet into dancing though.

Sesen’s eyebrows went up, full of hope, and he smiled nervously, “I sorta know how to dance a little too.” he cleared his throat quietly and then lightly shook his head as he sighed. He was sure that Lorenzo could pick up on a lot of things in his tone of voice but there was probably a lot missing since he couldn’t really see Sesen’s expression. It really wasn’t fair to beat around the bush and play coy, it wasn’t like he was asking for something terrible or that would be a lot for Lorenzo to deal with. At least he was pretty sure it wasn’t terrible but it wouldn’t do to try and make a blind vampire pick up on all the nonverbal cues he was giving to signal that he wanted to dance, “Do you wanna? Dance, I mean.. I’m not.. horrible, I think, I promise I’ll try really hard not to step on you and everything? I mean, it’s okay if you’d rather not, hahaha, I mean, I get it, it’s fine, you know...”

Henry was initially glad to hear that the man was willing to give him some of the food but as he approached, the familiar gripped his knees a little harder than intended. It wasn’t that the stranger looked any more threatening than he was sure he looked but after being betrayed by one of the only people he’d been close with in years, it was hard to trust anyone. His eyes moved up to find the other’s and it was clear that the stranger had picked up on his hesitance, though the bag was still being offered.

After a moment, Henry reached out to grasp the bag and shifted his gaze away from the other’s eyes once more. “Thank you.” He cleared his throat only when it came out a bit broken, trying his best to hide the mess he truly was. As he pulled his knees even tighter to his chest, allowing himself to glow in the pain of his joints, Henry reached into the bag and took out a cookie. He sniffed it for a split second before taking a large bite, his hunger overcoming him. He chewed and swallowed fully before speaking again. “From the light?”

Sesen gave a little nod and a smile to acknowledge the smile but he hesitated going back to his spot. He looked towards his bag as his hands fiddled with the water bottle, trying to figure out what the best course of action was. The guy’s voice sounded rough but was it weird to offer water too? He really didn’t know and he was about to give up and just go sit back down when the man spoke again and asked about the light.

“Oh, yeah, I’m...” he pointed up towards the sky and smiled, “I can get energy from the light through photosynthesis, I’m a druid.” he blushed lightly, hoping that the guy wouldn’t flip out on him. Some people seemed to not be able to handle such a big difference in species as he’d found out at the other sanctuary but so far things had been okay here at Caelestis. It didn’t mean it didn’t put Sesen a bit on edge, however, and he laughed nervously.

Sesen was still learning the layout of the Alliance Medical building, he knew the key places like his office and the labs but when he was asked to run a report to the director of another division, he found himself a little lost. With the folder hugged tight to his chest, he stood in the middle of a crossroads with three different hallways to choose from. He was pretty sure he was supposed to take the middle hallway but somehow the corridor to the right was calling him as well and it was making him doubt himself, paralyzing him with his indecisiveness.

It was then that someone came down the left corridor and Sesen was about to ask for a quick nudge in the right direction when he recognized the man’s face. Guy Chamberlain. The Guy Chamberlain! Sesen recognized him from the picture that had been included in the study he’d read about back when he’d taught himself the more technical side of things to help at the other sanctuary even more. His eyes went a little wide and he couldn’t stop smiling and there was no way he couldn’t not say something.

“Oh man, you’re, sorry,” Sesen raised his hand just a little to get Guy’s attention so he’d hopefully stop, “You’re Guy Chamberlain, right? I read your thesis a few years ago and it was, oh man, it was so great, really helped get us the most out of the artificial light with that one little tweak to the nitrogen levels, I didn’t know you were here in Caelestis! That’s so exciting!” Everything came out as a rush and Sesen was absolutely beaming from head to toe. @whatta-guy

He was rather glad that the punch wasn’t just store bought. It added a sense of authenticity to the party that he appreciated. “Have you tried any of the other drinks?” Was he really wondering about taste testing what the Masquerade had to offer drink wise? Quite possibly, but it wasn’t like he had anything else to do. There was always the option to dance, but he didn’t know anyone well enough to do so.

"Ahh... no, not really... or no actually because I haven’t...” Sesen admitted with a little laugh, “I’m not big on alcohol?” he hadn’t meant it as a question but it came out that way, none the less, “But I could... get you other stuff if you wanted me to or... uhm...” he sighed lightly, thinking back to the night he’d first met Lorenzo when the poor guy had been mugged. Or it was an attempted mugging anyway, he corrected himself in his head. The way he’d moved was almost unbelievable even though he’d seen it with his own eyes. Sesen couldn’t help but wonder if that grace held over into other, less violent things. Like dancing. “Do you know how to dance?” his tongue had a mind of its own even as he quickly shut his mouth and felt heat rising in his face right to the tips of his ears. It was out now and left Sesen wishing he had the power to un-say things somehow.

Blue ran his tongue over his lips and teeth, collecting the remnants of liquor that soaked in like it would make him any less nervous about this unusual situation. “Okay.. I’m just gonna jump right into it. Sesen–how’d you get that name, and where are you from? I just can’t see you being a native to this place. You seem very different from the rest of the others that I’ve met so far.” And most all of them were from elsewhere themselves, so that was his second indication that Sesen was, like him, somewhat new.

Sesen was thoroughly distracted by Blue’s tongue and he missed the first bit of what he’d said only catching everything after ‘get that name’ and he huffed out a little laugh, embarrassed at himself and the lovely attention he was being given. Leaning forward a little so he could rest his elbows on his knees - thus bringing him just that. much. closer. in - he extended the fingers of his closest hand so they were lightly touching Blue’s closest knee. He still had his mask on, still nervous and not able to take it off just yet, but he started to fiddle with the fabric of Blue’s trousers as he talked.

“Well, Sesen is actually the ancient Egyptian word for water lilies, lotuses, and that’s what my family line is most closely related to. I guess my parents liked the idea of connecting with the past and the present at the same time.” he gave a little shrug as he tilted his head to the side just a bit to look up at Blue with a little smile, “I grew up near Luxor, in Egypt, do you know it? It’s beautiful and I miss it.. a lot... but the fog...” he waved his hand a bit, not wanting to say it out loud, everyone knew what the fog had destroyed, and sighed gently, “I’m pretty sure everyone has a sad story to tell about it but I try to stay positive, think of the future, stay present.” on the last he smiled, eyes drifting down Blue’s body on their own accord and making Sesen sit back up to look away since he was sure it was blatantly obvious what he’d just done. His laugh was nervous again as he shook his head and forced himself to look back, “What about you though? Blue’s a unique name... is there a story behind it?” Maybe turning the attention off of himself and getting Blue in the spotlight instead of himself would make things better.

He clicked his tongue and took the cup with ease. A quiet thank you was said before he lifted it to his lips. Sure enough, the drink definitely smelled like berries and it was almost overwhelming with his sensitive sense of smell, but he drank it anyways. “It isn’t as tart or overly sweet as I thought it would be,” he admitted. “And it is not artificially flavored either, I agree that this is good punch.”

Sesen again found himself holding his breath as he waited for Lorenzo’s judgement. He was way too invested in the answer but he didn’t even think to question it. “Yeah!” His smile widened when the vampire agreed with him, “It’s got a really good... you nailed it, I didn’t know how to describe it but you said it perfectly. It’s not tart, not too sweet, it’s like.. it’s... it’s just right.”
