I love cats it's so easy to make them happy. You scritch their little heads and it's the best day of their lives.
@real-sound-reblogs
I just pulled an all nighter and I thought I was cognitively fine until I saw this beast and immediately thought "oh my god he's in camo, he looks like camo print army clothes, I can't believe that anture randomly made something like that, that coincidence is fucking crazy"
So yeah I should go to bed
I would give anything to be able to see how the world looks through the eyes of a mantis shrimp. it's been a deeply felt desire of mine for a very long time now and I will not know satisfaction until it is somehow requited
You actually probably don't want that.
Mantis shrimp have the 12 to 16 cones compared to a human 3... But they also can't easily distinguish between colours. Humans get that rainbow blend, while mantis shrimp get 16 blocks. We can tell the difference between yellow and orange - mantis shrimp can't.
And also - ultraviolet vision is nothing special - most crusatations can see in ultraviolet, and that range impedes colour vision - almost everything is blue shifted.
Also their distance vision sucks.
So... To us, a mantis shrimp perspective is blurry, blue, and mildly pixilated... Great at motion detection, though.
I need to see it
From the media that brought you "Millennials are killing [insert industry here]" articles for years and years and years, now we have....
"Hey, Gen Z, we're gonna relabel vacations into something else now and tell you how you really should be wary of taking vacation because it might impact your financial future."
This is a goddamn dystopia, we know this, right?
genuinely this reminds me of that one tumblr post about that cult indoctrination technique where they make unreasonable requests of you, and when you refuse, suddenly it’s YOUR fault for having a sense of self-care. it’s YOUR lack of commitment, YOUR lack of dedication — not the insane request of a company that does not actually care about you.
the idea that failure is an individual failing and not the oppressions of a broken system.
this is just flat-out manipulation. it really always has been, but this is the form it’s taking nowadays. crazy
*sigh*
Hey OP it would've been nice of you to include a link. A lot of people are upset because of the interpretation that this is talking about vacation... it's not.
"...Gen Z are taking time between jobs to have time out."
Like. Yeah, it's still misleading to call it a micro retirement, but it's at least talking about time Not Employed At All, and not just...vacation / time off while returning to the same work. It's talking about leaving space and time between one job and the next.
Full article here (if you have Firefox you can tap the icon in your url that makes it text only and avoid the paywall to read more):
As “The Great Retiree Return” trend rises, so does the Gen Z "micro-retirement" trend. Discover what these age reversal trends mean and how
That's an entirely different article than the one I was quoting, hence why it's saying something different and the text in the screen shot I included isn't anywhere in that article.
This is the original article, which they've also rewritten to make it a little less god-awful- they original version of it is still available on archive.org.
Very Silly Concept: a show called "Accessibility Nightmares" but it's structured exactly like Kitchen Nightmares. An accessibility specialist goes to different establishments and helps them make their businesses more accessible.
The accessibility specialist asks why the door at the top of the small set of stairs has a wheelchair symbol on it. The owner replies that's the accessible bathroom. The camera zooms in on the specialist as they process this information.
A customer with a service dog comes in to a restaurant. The hostess tells them they don't allow dogs. The accessibly specialist looks over at the hostess like
And there are web accessibility episodes too. The accessibility specialist stares at the white text on the light pink background of the home page like
The specialist asks why not a single product picture has alt text, and the business owner says "Well I mean, it's makeup, why would a blind person be shopping for makeup?" The specialist just
The specialist asks the web designer how a screen reader user is supposed to complete the captcha portion of the password reset process when there is no audio alternative. The designer admits they don't know.
#this post has 10k notes to me
When you left this tag three days ago, I thought "that's so sweet, but no. No way this concept is even close to that popular."
Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.
Thank you for coming to my this

World Heritage Post
continuously amazed at how easily people view JK rowling's bigotry as completely and entirely abstract. like she's not "a famous author who has some bad views" she's an influential bigot, as in, directly funds projects that harm trans women, directly contributes to transmisogynist legislation. to buy harry potter merch isn't just like, oh, i support the art not the artist. it's basically forking over cash to someone who is openly, publicly, fostering a more bigoted world through direct action. it's like watching elon musk do the hitler salute and going "oh well i don't know i just bought the cybertruck cause i like it"
She is actively threatening to sue Amnesty International
She sexually harassed a woman, with the justification that "[she] was asking for it, dressed like that"
And that's just this past week
